What impressed us particularly was the truly delightful staff who went out of their way to make our stay special for us. And the breakfast was truly phenomenal - the range of choices was superb and there was a lot of flexibility if one wanted a slight difference from anything listed. The hotel's location, raised above the centre, was not too far to walk from shops and restaurants with several route alternatives. For visiting the island, the bus stop at Grange Top was slightly closer than heading to the Town Terminus, albeit still a few minutes' walk. On arrival, our initial impression of the building was a little negative - peeling paint and rather less architecturally appealing than our mental images, and the in-room decor (repeating postage stamp images) was striking rather than beautiful, but the room was very comfortable with almost all facilities we wanted (no fridge, but we could request fresh milk and a bucket of ice daily from the bar). We didn't get to use the swimming pool as weather was terrible so not sure how that would have been but it looked a decent size for the number of rooms.

The hotel wasn't too big but big enough, the staff were so friendly, they remembered your name and room number so didn't need reminding when needing to sign for anything. The decor was right up my street. Animal print. I loved it. There was a heated outdoor swimming pool. The food was amazing, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they always had a smile for you.

Parking could of been a problem as there were only 6 or 7 spaces allocated across from the hotel which was on a first come first served basis but we always found side street parking available. On arrival Hilario explained where we could park and for how long which made life so much easier.

Just loved the whole place, for us it had a wonderful feel to it. Staff were wonderful, even had non alcoholic beer on tap for me which was very good. Lovely comfortable bar, restaurant and breakfast setting. The bed was on the firm side. Mt wife and I prefer a slightly softer bed ( but that’s us)It has a lift. It is in the hill and a short 10 min walk to town. It has some steep hills. Taxis tops. Catch a bus and go round the island our main reason to visit was to see the Royal Golden Guernsey Goats. Went by bus.

Lovely dining areas and brilliant friendly staff.

Wasn't keen on the bedroom which had very busy wallpaper and a bit Gothic for 2 people in their seventies. I didn't notice any other bedrooms on that floor with such 'loud' wallpaper. A more soothing atmosphere would have been preferred. Also, requested a porter to help with our luggage when leaving but nobody came and as a taxi was booked, we had to take them ourselves and as there were a few stairs involved it was a bit difficult.

The location and surrounding area. All staff were outstanding in courtesy, efficiency, professionalism and friendliness. Room facilities were tasteful and thoughtful. Decor elegant and comfortable. Lighting great, for make-up, reading and mood. Air con that works but not wakes! Food and service very good. Ambiance throughout the hotel very restful and inviting Pool gorgeous...small but perfect temp away from sight of hotel guests.

The staff were really nice and attentive, and welcoming. They worked very hard and always a smile on their face. Room was very nice, and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. The evening meals were very nice - especially the Honeycomb Ice Cream!

The route to the pool was a bit of a faff on - shame there wasnt an easier internal route to it. The breakfast was not bad, but the toast is brought out before your breakfast which means it is cold by the time your breakfast arrives.

From the moment you walked through the doors to the end of your stay the staff were excellent , nothing was to much trouble. The hotel is situated in a great position , the ambiance and decor took me back to another era. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and the bed very comfortable. Service at breakfast was attentive and just at the right pace , excellent choice of freshly cooked to order , with a wide choice cold options as well. Would highly recommend a stay there 😃

Breakfast choice was amazing and tasty and staff very friendly but we were asked for our choice of drinks on sitting down and our choice of toast so by the time we wanted the toast with marmalade it was cold . We asked for the toast to come after the eggs on the second and third day . Also they want you to order your hot breakfast but dont give you time to eat the fruit or cereal and it arrived before I had finished and as the table was small they asked if they could take my bowl away to fit the eggs plate on but I hadn’t finished ! Felt like they wanted to serve you quickly but I think they were too keen and just wanted to please .

The room could have been bigger as was very small for the price , I had upgraded to a seaview room so I would have thought it would have been bigger than the classic double room . Being rushed through our breakfasts .

The restaurant staff were very attentive and went out of their way to ensure breakfasts and dinners were exactly to my liking.

I had expected that my room might be hot as mentioned in some reviews being in the older part of the hotel, but this wasn’t really the case. However, I did find the duvets were extra heavy and oppressive and possibly winter tog, so did get very hot in the night despite having my windows open ajar

Outstanding service with attention to detail, is the hallmark of the Duke of Richmond. This is one of the best hotel customer service we have experienced. We were a group of 10 in 6 rooms. All the rooms are clean and tidy with some having excellent sea views of the entire harbour. The breakfast is one of the best we have ever experienced with excellent variety. The swimming pool is sizeable and the perfect temperature. i accidentally left my phone in the bar before going out for a meal one evening and a member of staff found me further down the road and returned it to me. Nothing was too much trouble. Would stay here again when we return to Guernsey.

Hard to fault, but small thing would be an extraction fan in the toilet would be useful as well as a warm shower in the swimming pool changing room. The bus network in Guernsey is good but it is a hilly walk to the nearest bus stop.
