Hotel Metropol Basel

Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff. Kettle and complimentary coffee in the room. Comfy bed. Quiet despite being next to a main road.

The hotel felt like a very good 3 star, not a 4 star (I expected more for a 4-star). The room price was above that of comparable 3-star hotels. Two single beds with huge gap between them, not so good for a married couple. Small flat pillows. Bathroom was small, the toilet very close to the bath, with the toilet paper on the other side - you could stretch and take it. It wasn't terrible by any standard, it is just for the price and a 4-star, I expected a little more.

We made a last minute booking to ensure we would not miss our connection to a DB train to Berlin the next morning The hotel is just around the corner from the main Basel SBB station. It is small but our room was a good size with a comfotable bed and nice view to the park across the street. The bathroom had a large combination tub/shower and large towels. The TV was large with a good selection of channels. We enjoyed a nice walk from the hotel to through the old town to the Rhine and enjoyed an obscenely expensive drink on the terrace of a grand hotel overlooking the Rhine, grateful to have been able to enjoy that experience without having to pay over CHF 500 for a room.

Upon arrival at the hotel I discovered that I accidently booked a nonrefundable room for September 25 (2 months after our stay), instead of the night of our arrival. I made a new booking while standing in the lobby for less money. The desk clerk promised to talk to the manager to see if we can get a credit to apply to a room on another night TBD in the future. Unfortunately i haven't heard back on this request.

The room was very clean and the bed was comfy, window could be opened, I also really appreciated the coffee machine in the room.

Our room was on the 8th floor which is where breakfast is provided. In the morning you could hear the music from the breakfast room and hear hotel guests coming through, so it was quite noisy.

Room decent size and clean. Bathroom nice and clean. Compact but adequate for our use. Overall very satisfied with the hotel. No real gripes.

Breakfast may be a bit limited for some guests.Several days some items such as bacon and sausage and ham not replenished when we ate. It seemed fully stocked when we ate early with the business guests who ate early, but for leisure guests who ate later, on some days appeared not to be replenished. Most items typically cheese ham, salami, boiler eggs

close to railway station, great location.

Hotel Metropol entrance was locked and blocked off, luckily a member of staff was taking a break nearby and told us we had to access the hotel via the Hotel Euler (?) which was around the corner, no mention of this was made when booking the Hotel Metropol. After travelling for many hours this was really frustrating. Rubbish directions, we could have just walked across the road from the railway station instead of walking all the way round the block.

A nice clean and comfortable room. Easy to find and near good transport. The Basel card is a nice touch. If we were staying longer it would have been very handy.

Room temperature was warm, couldn't find a way to change it.

Check in time. the trend in check in times has become punitive in general

Bed was really comfy, shower hot and strong, and the wifi was great! The staff were really helpful and accommodating, and quick to respond to emails. The hotel is really well located; I got the bus from Basel-Mulhouse airport and it was a 2-minute walk from the stop outside the train station.

We did not stay at hotel metropol When we got there they upgraded us to there sister hotel next door
