Hotel Spalentor - Ihr sympathisches Stadthotel

I do not know where to start as the location, the people, and the amenities were all fantastic! I cannot recommend this place enough. It is right opposite the Spalentor gate, which makes the old city so accessible! Tram and bus stops are diagonally opposite the hotel. SBB HB/ train station is a mere 10 minutes away by car/ taxi. The Basel University botanical garden is opposite the hotel and is a wonderful addition to the city sights. The room is spacious and has SUCH a comfortable bed and duvet. I had some great nights of peaceful sleep. Modern layout and bathroom amenities were plenty. My first room on the first floor faced the road but was still quiet at night; the second one faced the garden in front and was beautiful! There were also some complimentary fruits for me in the room. I loved the all-female staff team; very efficient and understanding. They are also helpful, responsive, and very sweet. Gave me lots of tips for restaurants and sights nearby. There was an issue with my room on my second night but the team gave me a different one the next morning, quelling all my concerns. Breakfast is on the top floor and starts at 7 on weekdays and 7:30 on weekends, staffed by kind women. Lovely delightful breakfast items.

Everythings fine here, an overall good value hotel for the area. Breakfast is solid enough, location is close to the old town and very easy to get to the train station on the bus. The staff were great, and kind enough to put some cheese we bought in their fridge. I forget which staff member checked us in, but she seemed to have in-depth knowledge of every bar in the city, which was very useful :)

The coffee machine at breakfast isn't very good (but i complain about this at almost every hotel) Slightly annoying the reception desk isn't 24/7 so you need to let yourself in if returning late at night.

Hotel Spalentor was in a perfect location. It is right by the charming old part of Basel, full of great restaurants and cafes. Very walkable and the tram picked up right across the street. It is also across the street from beautiful botanical gardens. The gardens were so amazing that we went there twice and they were free! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were leaving before breakfast on our last day and they packed us a breakfast to go. Definitely eat breakfast there, is was delicious and had a huge selection of everything you could want. The rooms were very spacious and super clean. We were very happy with our stay at Holel Spalentor.

I can't think of a thing that could have been better!

The hotel is just on the edge of the city centre area but very conveniently located for bus and tram stops. This was our first trip entirely by train and we had quite large bags with us. We were able to hop on a bus immediately outside the station and then have just a short walk to the hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room was lovely - large, bright and comfortable. The room and bathroom were perfectly clean and having a bath as well as a (powerful) over bath shower was lovely. Breakfast was also excellent. There are a couple of restaurants near the hotel but again, we found that the ease of hopping off trams or buses using the free pass from the hotel, meant that all restaurants in the city centre were really within easy reach.

As we found at virtually every hotel we stayed at on this trip, Swiss pillows are almost not worth bothering with - really soft and collapse when you put your head on them. But this was a very small issue in an otherwise lovely hotel.

The room was very clean and spacious. Breakfast was great! We were offered a good assortment of both hot and cold food and probably the best coffee we had during our entire vacation. The hotel is conveniently located directly across the street from one set of gates to the historic centre. Beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is big enough and had a good shower. The staff at the front desk was awesome! A shoutout to Miriam at the front desk who was incredibly pleasant, efficient and quickly resolved a slight issue we encountered with our reservation. Thanks again Miriam!

Nothing really other than the fact that parking is not included on the property, however it is available nearby for 17 francs per day.

The location is really great - next to the old streets of Basel with lovely boutiques and restaurants. There are also great public transport options right outside the hotel (tram number 3 and buses 30 and 33). The breakfast was good and the staff really friendly.

The room was a little noisy, as both windows in the room faced on to a pretty busy street. That's the downside to being so close to public transport. Saying that, I did notice that there were earplugs available in the room, so they've obviously listened to feedback. If I were to stay there again, I would ask for a higher room (we were on the first floor).

Our first impression was the reception we received. The staff were extremely engaging, very happy and eager to welcome us to their establishment, providing us with sound advice for our stay in their City. The location was excellent. It was within walking distance of most of the popular attractions we wished to experience. It was also extremely close to the tram stop if walking was not an option. The accommodation was extremely spacious and comfortable. We appreciated the size and layout of the bathroom after several cramped experiences elsewhere on our journey. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.

There was nothing to dislike!

Great location just outside one of the old city gates. The staff were some of the best we have experienced on our three week trip. The hotel was clean and comfortable and it had a lovely courtyard where we sat each night and had drinks from the bar. We borrowed bicycles from the hotel one day and rode all over Basel which was very nice since it is a larger city. The bikes were in excellent condition and were comfortable to ride. The staff assisted us with dinner reservations one evening which was helpful since it was a holiday and many places were closed. We would definitely recommend Hotel Spalentor!

The location was great… 5 mins walk to the river. The room was lovely - really comfy with coffee making facilities. The hotel staff are what makes this place so special …. Really smiley, friendly, helpful. The hotel told us about free transport from the airport, upgraded our room because of birthday celebrations and gave us a free drink. We also enjoyed free bike hire, free winklefisch hire and free fruit and coffee every morning. Would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to return

The hotel was perfect for what we needed, clean and nice room, good location, you could walk to most places but it also had lots of public transport links right outside which we used daily as it was free for tourists (a great bonus!). All the staff were so lovely. The breakfast buffet was great. Lovely little garden out the front of the hotel to sit and have a drink in the sunshine. Our toddler loved the kids play area, and the free plastic duck! Botanical gardens opposite were a pretty, tranquil place to stroll through.
