The hotel is very conveniently located - 15 min walk from the SBB train station, close to the old town. If you prefer public transportation, bus no. 30 stops in front of the hotel (you can also use the bus to get to the hotel from the Basel Bad train station). Staying at a hotel in Basel gives you free access to the public transporation and discounts to musea etc. I got a very comfortable room at the top floor. It was equipped with a coffee maker and a record player :-) The breakfast buffet was excellent (it included porridge!).

TV includes only German-speaking channels. Wifi could be more stable - on two evenings it was falling in and out to the extent that it was impossible to use it. The hotel has not got its own restaurant, so for meals other than breakfast you have got to go out; but there is plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood (5 min walk).

We at rived exhausted from a long cycle ride and after struggling to locate the hotel to be greeted by lovely staff. Provided with a city card which although we didn’t actually us it is a great idea and a welcome drink which was enjoyed in their tranquil garden. The location is excellent as it is close to all the main attractions of the city. The room was well decorated with everything you would need for a stay. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast was amazing. The quality and choice was amazing and we enjoyed eating out in the garden. Great storage for our bikes too.

Struggled to find the hotel from the direction we arrived on our bikes but once there everything was amazing.

The entrance to the hotel was very welcoming, the staff were exceptional and I was welcomed with a drink and some chips which I took in the very pretty garden, which is why I chose this hotel. The room was clean and the facilities good. I did not take breakfast as I knew there were many places nearby for coffee and a croissant. The location was just right, one stop on the No 30 bus from the SBB, less than a 5 minute walk into the centre of Basel, be mindful there are a quite a few steps, but remember the No 30 bus takes you to the SBB (train station) where there are trams for all over the city. You are given a free pass for trams and buses and also discounted prices for museums and other attractions in the city. I would definitely stay again.

Where to begin... The staff was fantastic and welcoming, even allowing us to drop off a large suitcase two days before our arrival and offering ideas for walking the old town. Our room was large and comfortable, with a bed that was just right and perfect pillows. Breakfast was delicious and served in a dining room or an adjacent garden. The whole place was spotless, just across the street from the bus stop and close to the train station. Even the elevator was fast. Easily the best place we've stayed in years.

As for what could have been better, nothing. Well, the hotel's name, Steinenschanze, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but it's well worth learning to pronounce. Excellent from beginning to end. I would happily rate the hotel as a 10 plus.

The staff was amazing; greeting us outside and bringing in our luggage. I had an issue with checking in with the airport and they made multiple phone calls for me. Gave us good tips on how to get around and what to see. Unfortunately we had to leave too early for breakfast. The afternoon wine was a lovely touch. Another wonderful aspect of the hotel is the garden which is an oasis. Sitting there relaxing amongst the plants, listening to the water and the birds was a real bonus. One would never guess that you were in the midst of the city. So peaceful and relaxing - just what we needed!

No washcloths and hand lotion bottle was empty.

Great location as it is within walking distance of the center (City-south) and main tram lines. Furthermore, there is a public car park (with decent 24h parking fees) just across the road. Nice small lounge area in the lobby coupled with a larger more secluded area facing the back of the property. Small but well designed rooms with nice amenities and cool interior decoration ideas (we had a small 33/45 turntable in our room).

We got upgraded for our pre-booked stay (3 nights), which was obviously great, but when we added an extra night we were charged the full amount although it was just a week day. Fair enough, but it was a bit of a downer!

Steinenschanze Stadthote Is a wonderful hotel with clean, spacious rooms and a high attention to detail. The property is located just a couple blocks (less than 10 minute walk) from the old town centre. In the town centre there are numerous cafes, restaurants and shops. If traveling by train the bus does stop directly in front of the hotel making transfer simple. A buffet breakfast is well presented with variety of hot and cold items and fresh pastries highlighted with made to order fresh coffee. The hotel staff goes above all expectations to be welcoming and helpful. We definitely recommend this property for its location, value and appreciation of guests.

Bathroom is very small but nothing that can be changed.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They explained us how to navigate around Basel, how to get to places, and other useful details. The staff also helped us as much as they could on how to get the tax refund stamp because not much details are on the website on how to get the customs stamp and refund if you travel from Switzerland to other countries. When we checked out, the staff knew we had to travel hours on the train so she offered us multiple bottles of both still and sparkling water to take on our journey. She also let us checked in early since the room was ready.

The hotel was easy to get to, had a drinking water fountain (Extremely pleased with this since sometimes it feels weird drinking from the tap), however, the hotel rooms use actual key which makes it hard to key in the knob and get in the room.

The location and ease of travel from the station by bus thanks to excellent communications from the hotel. The friendly staff, welcome drink, bottled water for onward travel, breakfast and peaceful garden. The proceeds from the hotel support several worthy charities.

More storage space in the bedroom, eg drawers/shelves. Better plugs that allow converters esp from UK. Larger bathroom which was fine, but compact.

Easy check in, friendly, helpful staff, a good welcome drink and advice on where to eat. Friendly, helpful hints in the room and upon wifi sign in were a nice touch. Bathroom is small, but a smart use of space. The location is along a main road, right next to the bus stop that goes to the train station. Room was silent, bed was comfortable, and everything worked. It is a real short walk around the corner to the scenic, historic district. You could also walk to the train station. We walked from the station to the hotel in 12-15 minutes. Took the bus back due to weather and it was one stop away. Free transportation is provided from the train station to hotel upon your arrival. Hotel gives you a pass for free public transit during your stay. 12 pm check out is nice.

Nothing to complain about. Some food for purchase options would be nice/ convenient, if arriving late or the weather is poor. Basel train station (not hotel) had some beggars, and the immediate area around it had a fair amount of litter and cigarette butts on the ground. Something we did not see in other parts of Switzerland.
