Hotel Victoria

I like staying at Hotel Victoria because of its proximity to the train station, tram stop but foremost for its ambience and comfortable rooms. Being an o'seas visitor my visits are intermittent but as I visit family and friends, I have lots of the same places to visit and hence the location and connectivity is important. I love the Basel Card that always comes in handy. The staff is always welcoming and helpful and my double room had a lovely ambience. I value the coffee machine although it gave me a bit of grief this time but was replaced immediately. My bathroom was compact but comfortable enough for 1 person. I was offered a welcome drink in the adjoining Bistro which was a nice gesture but never had the time to take it up. Welcome chocolates and a few perks on the back of the Art Basel Fair were on offer too signalling a spirit of generosity.

Complimentary bottles of water had a flip top and could not be closed again. A screw top bottle would have preserved the freshness if only a glass of water is taken at any time.

Staying right next to Basel SBB train station was a real bonus. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and comfy and had various adapters, which was a nice touch. The hotel provided us with a Basel travel pass, making it a breeze to discover the city and its surroundings. This location was a game-changer for us. We left our luggage at the hotel and headed into Basel city to explore. When our day trip was over, we simply strolled across the street to the train station to continue our journey. This setup made our time in Basel super convenient and stress-free.

We didn't have much time to enjoy the hotel's facilities.

Fraser from the front desk was so very helpful and informative. He showed us how to navigate the public transportation system (we appreciated the free passes from Hotel Victoria) and gave us ideas for places to visit. It was a great added benefit to have someone who spoke English and was so generous with his time and knowledge. We also appreciated the free water in the mini-bar in our room - and were very pleased that our room was so quiet throughout the night. Also loved the close proximity to the rail/tram/bus system. It allowed us to easily get around Basel and other parts of Switzerland.

The location of the hotel is great. It is next to the train station and the bus station (but you do need to make sure you use the right exit of the train station. The google map didn't guide me to the right exit and I was trying to look for the hotel pulling my luggage around for 15 min only to find that it is just next to the train station if another exit is used). The location is fantastic with bus station next to it too. Nevertheless, it was still very quiet. The room was very clean, comfortable and spacious. There was free public transportation too that came with the stay. I would definitely recommend the hotel.

Nothing except if there could be more variety of food for breakfast.

Staff was friendly and efficient - allowed us to have an early check-in and late check-out. Very conveniently outside the main train station and in front of the main tram transfer point. The room was clean, comfortable and very quiet. Tea kettle and Nespresso coffee maker in the room. Very nice shower. The breakfast was terrific - huge number of choices and omelettes available upon request. We would definitely stay in this hotel again the next we visit Basel.

Very minor - would have liked a couple more Nespresso pods!

The location directly across the street from the Basel Hbf could not be better for guests traveling by train. There is a nice Coop grocery store adjacent to the hotel as well as a nice Migros grocery store downstairs in the Basel Hbf, so access to relatively inexpensive food is not an issue. The room was appointed with high-end bathroom fixtures, a high-end coffee unit, and the lighting was superb. Everything spoke "quality,"

Breakfast was not included in the price, but that seems to be the norm in Basel.

Checkin was courteous and efficient. The room was very comfortable. Ours looked out onto the train station exit and tram stands. I could have spent hours watching people, bikes, cars, and trams all dodging each other! To close the window was like switching on noise-cancelling headphones: it all goes delightfully quiet! The location is only good for being near the train or tram stations - but we did, so that’s why we chose it. Breakfast choice was exceptional, though I’ve drunk better machine coffee. To be able to park in a secure location just a few metres from the hotel’s underground entrance would sway my decision to return every time.

Aircon was noisy though it was a constant sound that you can learn to sleep through. We turned it off at nights, though. As good as the breakfast was, the dining room lacked ambiance; there wasn’t much to tempt you to linger once your meal was over. For my taste city hotels need to be places of tranquility. I found the background music slightly intrusive and an odd taste in style. It’s nice to be able to relax somewhere other than your room sometimes but apart from a few chairs in reception I was not aware of the existence of a guest lounge.

I stayed there the first night and last night of my holiday in Switzerland. On the first night I asked for some extra pillows as I sleep sitting up, and also for a seat and/or rubber mat for the shower as i am elderly and scared of slipping. I was impressed to find when I arrived two weeks later, that the receptionist had remembered what i had requested before and they were already in my room.

The meal in the restaurant the first night i was there. I had rosti and it tasted as if the oil had gone off.

This is a true gem! The location is unbeatable - central Basel. Everything is close. The room was spotlessly clean. The wifi was free and fast. The bed linen from famous Swiss producer Schlossberg was luxurious and soft. The towels also pure Schlossberg quality. The bed was super comfortable. Two types of pillows available: feather and foam. The foam one was a dream. Perfect pillow. The air condition worked flawlessly. The bath tub and shower head the best ever. The body lotion is wonderful. The trash in bathroom is huge & exactly what I always miss. Bravo! Toilet, sink and taps in old fashioned, castle style - pure luxury. Everything was amazing in this room. Super friendly staff at the hotel and reception. I loved it all! Tip: I've parked spontaneously at the nearby underground SBB park-house and it was a pure jackpot; they have extra large parking places. We paid 17 Swiss Francs for one night of parking. This was an amazing discovery, knowing how expensive public parking is Switzerland is.
