San Diego ist perfekt für Outdoor-Aktivitäten

Das gemäßigte Klima in San Diego macht die Stadt das ganze Jahr über zu einem idealen Urlaubsziel. Hier ist es selten zu heiß oder besonders kalt, und obwohl Januar und Februar die feuchtesten Monate sind, kommt es hier eher zu Schauern als zu durchdringendem Regen. Wenn Sie auf der Suche nach tagelangem Sonnenschein sind, können Besucher von San Diego von Mai bis Oktober ihre Regenkleidung zu Hause lassen. Die Temperaturen sind in den Hochsommermonaten, wenn die Kinder nicht in der Schule sind, sehr angenehm und erreichen an der Küste in den Monaten Juni, Juli und August in der Regel Werte um die Mitte der 70er Jahre, wobei die nächtlichen Tiefstwerte nur bis in die 60er Jahre sinken. Im Landesinneren liegen die Temperaturen im Sommer zwischen den unteren und oberen 80er Jahren, und wenn die Santa-Ana-Winde wehen, kann es sogar ein paar Tage geben, an denen die 100-Grad-Marke erreicht wird.

Im Winter liegen die durchschnittlichen Höchsttemperaturen in der Regel in den 60er Jahren, mit kühlen Abenden und nächtlichen Tiefstwerten, die in die oberen 40er und unteren 50er Jahre fallen. Kühle Brisen entlang der Küste sind erfrischend, und die meisten Tage sind sonnig und angenehm. Sie können sicher sein, dass unabhängig von der Jahreszeit, in der Sie uns besuchen, kein Schnee vorhergesagt ist. Das Schwimmen im Meer kann im Winter etwas kühl sein, aber die meisten Hotelpools sind beheizt, so dass Sie jederzeit ein Bad nehmen können, wenn Sie möchten.

"Let's hit the beach"

Das hört man in San Diego häufig, wenn man ein paar Stunden oder einen ganzen Tag an den schönen und breiten Sandstränden von Mission Beach (zwei Meilen lang) oder Pacific Beach (drei Meilen lang) verbringen möchte. Diese entspannten Gegenden am Pazifischen Ozean bieten echtes südkalifornisches Flair mit Strandpromenaden zum Flanieren und Shoppen, Beachvolleyball, Fahrradverleih, Surf- oder Paddleboarding-Kursen, Schwimmen, Kajakverleih, Restaurants zum Entspannen oder einfach nur zum Verweilen und Leute beobachten.

Mission Beach ist auch bekannt für die Belmont Park's Giant Dipper Achterbahn und den eintrittsfreien, kostenpflichtigen Vergnügungspark. Natürlich sind auch die Sonnenuntergänge hier spektakulär. KINDERFREUNDLICH!

Seaport Villag

Das Seaport Village ist ein toller Ort für einen entspannten Spaziergang, einen Einkaufsbummel oder einen Happen zum Essen in der Innenstadt von San Diego. Gaslamp Quarter

Gaslamp Quarter/Dieses Vergnügungsviertel im Stadtzentrum mit seinen schönen Gebäuden aus dem viktorianischen Zeitalter und dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert, einer Vielzahl von Geschäften und Restaurants sowie einem regen Nachtleben ist leicht zu Fuß zu erreichen. Der PETCO Park und das schöne Hafenviertel sind nur einen kurzen Spaziergang entfernt. Besuchen Sie die Stadt tagsüber oder abends, dann ist Spaß garantiert.

Vielleicht möchten Sie an einer der beliebten Old Town Trolley Tours teilnehmen, die 11 Haltestellen in San Diego und auf der anderen Seite der Brücke in Coronado umfasst. Für diesen lehrreichen und landschaftlich reizvollen Ausflug werden Einzel- und Zweitageskarten angeboten. [Das Maritime Museum of San Diego (https://sdmaritime.org/) liegt am Embarcadero im Stadtzentrum und beherbergt die Star of India, die 1863 gebaut wurde und das älteste aktive Segelschiff der Welt ist. Das Museum besteht aus zahlreichen Schiffen, die in der Bucht von San Diego angedockt sind und erkundet werden können, um zu sehen, wie Seeleute während langer Seereisen lebten und arbeiteten. Besonders beeindruckt waren wir von der Fregatte der Royal Navy aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, der HMS Surprise, und dem Navy-Forschungs-U-Boot USS Dolphin.

San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo/Dieser 100 Hektar große Zoo im Balboa Park, der von vielen als einer der größten Zoos der Welt angesehen wird, beherbergt mehr als 12.000 Tiere. In einer natürlichen Umgebung ohne Käfige spazieren die Besucher durch die Ausstellungen Lost Forest, Elephant Odyssey, Polar Bear Plunge, Panda Ride und Africa Rocks.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

[Der San Diego Zoo Safari Park (https://sandiegozoowildlifealliance.org/) liegt im Vorort Escondido, 32 Meilen nördlich der Innenstadt von San Diego, und ist ein riesiger, 1.800 Hektar großer Tierpark, der mit seinem innerstädtischen Vorbild nicht zu vergleichen ist. Die hier lebenden Tiere leben in natürlichen Lebensräumen, die sich fast so anfühlen, als befände man sich im asiatischen Grasland oder in der afrikanischen Savanne.

Wenn der Besuch beider Zoos für Sie oder Ihre Familie zu viel Tierzeit ist, sollten Sie bedenken, dass viele Online-Poster sagen, dass der Safari Park der schönste Teil ihres Besuchs in San Diego war. Fahren Sie auf jeden Fall mit der kostenlosen Africa Tram Safari, wo Sie Herden von Nashörnern, Antilopen, Giraffen, Wasserbüffeln, Zebras und viele andere schöne Tiere sehen können. Balboa Park

Balboa Park/San Diegos kulturelles Zentrum östlich des Stadtzentrums. Dieser unglaubliche, 1.200 Hektar große Park beherbergt 17 Museen, darunter das San Diego Museum of Art, das San Diego Natural History Museum, das San Diego Air & Space Museum, das Timken Museum of Art, das Mingei International Museum, das Fleet Science Center + IMAX, das Museum of Us und - für Eisenbahnfans - das San Diego Model Railroad Museum.

Wenn Sie es vorziehen, Ihre Zeit in Balboa im Freien zu verbringen, sollten Sie sich die schönen Gärten ansehen. Dazu gehören der Rosengarten, der Kaktusgarten, der Palmengarten, der Japanische Freundschaftsgarten und ein Gebäude mit Pflanzen und einem Seerosenteich.

Sea World

[Sea World San Diego (https://seaworld.com/san-diego/) in Mission Bay ist ein Themenpark, der sich mit dem Leben im Meer beschäftigt und Tierpräsentationen, lehrreiche Ausstellungen und Fahrgeschäfte für die ganze Familie anbietet. USS Midway Museum

USS Midway Museum/One of the most population attractions in San Diego, this maritime museum is a favorite of first-time visitors to San Diego. Build aboard the USS Midway aircraft carrier that is permanently moored at the downtown Embarcadero/Navy Pier, guests can explore the massive ship inside and out.

From the flight deck to the hangar deck and the multitude of fascinating inside spaces, the longest-serving U.S. Navy carrier (1945-92) will open your eyes to the life at sea experienced by more than 200,000 sailors that served on the vessel. A highlight of the museum, especially for kids, are the more than 30 restored Navy aircraft on the flight and hangar decks, including helicopters and fighter jets.

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park/From the coastal bluffs high above the Pacific Ocean, visitors flock here to see the magnificent sunset night after night. Views are unobstructed, so many visitors an hour or more before sunset to follow the sun’s descent into the waters below.

Hike at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

Hike at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve/Incredible wide-ranging views of the Pacific Ocean are the main attraction from the hiking trails atop the coastal bluffs here. Depending on who’s in your travel party and your determination, there are short and easy walks to consider, as well as moderate hikes that include changes in elevation along the way.

Passing through rare Torrey pine forests is a terrific way to experience the native vegetation (think beautiful wildflowers) and geology, with some trails descending from the bluffs to the beach. The views from the beach skyward to the tops of the bluff are magnificent but remember, if you walk down to the beach, you will have to make the upward climb to the top of the bluffs to reclaim your car.

La Jolla

La Jolla/There’s so much to see and do in this beautiful town 12 miles north of downtown San Diego. The upscale community is located in San Diego County but feels like a world apart from nearby city life. The Mediterranean-style coastline is ideal to view and hear the local sea lions at La Jolla Cove, considered by some to be the most beautiful beach anywhere on the California coast. Other local activities include snorkeling and kayaking, browsing the side variety of local shops that cater to tourists as well as affluent locals. You will no doubt be awed by the amazing nearby cliffs and beaches and the colorful sunsets. Be sure to see the elusive little blue penguins, octopus, ocean fish habitats, coral reefs, and many other kinds of marine life at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (managed by UC San Diego). Scripps also houses one of the world’s largest seadragon and seahorse habitats that visitors rave about.

The Museum of Contemporary Art

The Museum of Contemporary Art is situated above the beaches on bluffs overlooking the ocean, within easy walking distance of La Jolla Cove. The highly regarded facility features paintings, sculpture, photography, and other art forms in rotating and permanent exhibits focused on 1950 until today. Hint: Whether you are touring the museum or not, you may dine at The Kitchen at MCASD, an ocean view full-service restaurant featuring a Mediterranean menu for lunch and dinner.

Coronado Island

A visit to Coronado Island, directly across San Diego Bay from downtown by bridge instantly transforms your location from a busy city to a slow going beach town vibe. With wide sandy beaches, fabulous views looking back at downtown, and its own residential feel with historic charm, Coronado is well worth a visit. You can drive here on your own or take an Old Town Trolley Tours excursion where you can hop off and back on when you are ready. Be sure to stroll through the grounds and public areas of the stunning circa 1888 Hotel Del Coronado, as well as the adjacent beach.

Whatever kind of food you’re looking for, you will find it in San Diego. The city’s food scene has been strongly influenced by its close proximity to Mexico, but San Diegans are a diverse collection of people from around the world who have thankfully brought their native cuisines to this sun-drenched locale.

Gaslamp Quarter:

The area can be touristy depending on where you choose to dine, but with rooftop dining, steakhouses, and an abundance of local restaurants with strong track records, the Quarter offers plenty of options for solo diners, couples, and families. It is especially busy at night in what is definitely an energetic urban area, making it a good lunch to and mid-afternoon choice.

North Park:

A favorite area with the locals. Discover trendy, chef-driven restaurants, creative cocktails, craft beers, and global dishes in this artsy, easy-going neighborhood. The area is especially popular with the young professionals crowd.

Downtown San Diego:

The bay and marina views along the waterfront make dining downtown worth considering. There’s no shortage of seafood spots, and some of them are actually casual and affordable. The Embarcadero is popular with first-time visitors who haven’t yet discovered the city’s other neighborhoods, and families with younger and toddler kids. Overall, better food can be found elsewhere, but the views are stellar.

Little Italy:

Casual and upscale dining options in a walkable neighborhood. You’ll find old-style Italian meals, modern takes on Italian recipes, with plenty of seafood and wine to make for a wonderful experience. The area is busy from morning to evening with outdoor patios with fabulous people watching, coffee shops, and of course, Italian bakeries where you can pick up a supply of amazing breads and desserts for home.

La Jolla:

Come for the ocean views, stay for the upscale California-style dining with seafood and tapas at the bar especially popular. La Jolla is also a great area to find a brunch to your liking. This is the place for a relaxed evening meal on the coast.

Pacific Beach:

Casual, fun, and less expensive than the trendy food neighborhoods, Pacific Beach is the place for a savory breakfast, tacos, fried fish, and fun bars to make your day at the beach complete. A younger crowd gives the area a distinct energetic feeling.
