Airport Gateway Hotel

Close to the airport. Though I didn’t know (first time stay over for international flight - which was a first) there it a bus (yellow bus service) that can take you to the hotel (circuited route of airport hotels) free of charge from the airport and also does pick-ups to the domestic and international airports.

That it was quite a walk away to where our designated room was because I misunderstood the directions. Also when taking food from the hotel restaurant and your room is where we stayed. It was really hard to hold a full tray of food and try and open the door with the door tag.

The Staff were amazing! The room was comfortable, amenities within the room and Motel were fantastic. The restaurant menu had a really good variety to choose from. Breakfast choices were great as well. The food was well cooked, delicious and well presented. The bonus for me was the fact that i got my Dinner delivered to my room! My stay was great besides 2 things that could be improved on... 1) The room was not vacuumed properly. 2) I loved the fact that I could park my vehicle outside my room!! Downside was the great big deep potholes throughout the parking facility. :-(

Room 72 clean and well presented thankyou. Beds comfortable, fresh linen. Tea coffee items great after travelling. Nice soap pumps in shower. Bedside Lamps were on in room when we arrived and felt cosy and welcoming. Check in building next to accommodation building, reception friendly.

Some young children (think visitors) with loud voices and running through the hallway at 7am. Unfortunately they woke us up. We stayed here 17yrs ago when check in was at front of accommodation building. we could see complex has aged, Hallway decor to access rooms drab, and has an odour in Hallway. Looks like some reburbishment work happening with outside skip full of old chairs. Be nice to see complex refreshed again.

We arrived at 05:40 am in Auckland after an almost eight hr flight and reached the hotel by 6.30/7.00 am. I had requested an early check-in. They showed us to our room by 11.00 am. In the meantime, we had breakfast in their restaurant, which was adequate and reasonably priced. Our twin room with two double beds looked great and clean but had a damp smell, as this section of the hotel had been closed up earlier. My friend couldn't tolerate the smell as she has allergies and couldn't breath. We told this to the young man who had prepared the room for us and he quickly prepared another room. He was very helpful and obliging. Sorry we can't remember his name now! This room was very comfortable and excellent for the price we paid. They even supplied a water fountain with cooled drinking water at the entrance of this section. We spent 2 nights there before we flew to Queenstown. We liked the closeness of the hotel to the airport and the free shuttle service to and from the airport.

Just the damp smell, but lucky there was another room without it.

The hotel was exactly what it promised. A perfect place to rest after a long flight and pleasing staff. Pradeep at the front desk also went to the extent of packing me a quick breakfast since I was leaving early in the morning. Small gestures like this make short stays even more wonderful. Will come back if the opportunity arises.

The management could consider mending certain fixtures in the room, in particular, electrical and plumbing. Not that these caused any discomfort, but if not mended could lead to unwanted surprises. I am sure these are already on the to-do list but thought it might be worth mentioning.

Free shuttle bus, which isn't the fastest way to get to the airport but is a great free option, and it runs all day and night. It is also good to have a restaurant open early and until late. The room was clean.

I booked a room at Airport Getaway and not at VR Airport Hotel. They are across the car park from each other, but the fact you have to go to Airport Getaway for check in, for the restaurant, for the shuttle bus and anything else you may need assistance with. Makes it annoying. Also, when you check in, it would be nice if the staff explained about the other hotel and make sure you are OK with staying there. The rooms are different. The restaurant was pretty average, the staff in general didn't look very professional and the chef and the manager were having an argument right in front of everybody. The food was also very average, and you feel there is no point in complaining. It was 9.30 pm and I just wanted to eat and go to bed.

We were upgraded to a room and paid extra for an air conditioner. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal at the onsite restaurant. The airport shuttle was convenient.

This property is needing lots of maintenance. We booked a budget room and did not realise there was no air conditioner. We were able to pay extra and get a better room. The pool was empty and damaged. The iron in the guest laundry did not work. The upgraded room needs maintenance too.

We all absolutely loved and enjoyed our stay here. We had breakfast included every morning. Our room or apartment was private and tucked away . Even with renovations currently underway, we were surprised by the peace and quiet. Didn't really hear air traffic either we noticed!. And we were able to be together in a 2 bedroom apartment with full kitchen. It's one of my best picks, so far for Auckland. Recommend this place to stay if you're like us and live in rural Whangarei. Would stay again. Thanks to the staff.😁👍👍👍

Only one thing, no fault directly of hotel and staff, but the ongoing traffic is crazy busy all the time but only hear it when out in front main entrance carpark. We are rural Whangarei locals..so we noticed..🤗🤗😁..big thank you to staff for an awesome 3 days of comfort peace and privacy..keep up the good work.

Free airport shuttle, continental breakfast was lovely, nice spacious room with comfortable bed, strong Wifi connection, close to cafes and shops, staff were friendly and helpful, excellent air conditioning, excellent shower pressure hot and cold 👍 Dont judge this hotel by how it looks like on the outside I was surprised to see it was quite nice inside and the room was quite spacious I stayed in a Deluxe King Room

Bathroom needed some work done to it, the TV in the room wasn't a smart TV so I couldn't binge watch Netflix, the carpark around the side and rear of the hotel needed some work done (potholes) carpark in front of the hotel was all good 👍
