Hotel des Celestins

The hotel is classic old French style in a great location. The receptionist, Marjorie, was wonderfully helpful, providing an orientation via maps, recommendations and held with dinner reservations. She also helped download train tickets after an email SNAFU. The owner was also engaging, a world traveler and photographer - we traded tales. Our room was small, but adequate. The AC was very welcome in Lyon in August. The breakfast included was quite sufficient, though not extensive. The location is just across the river from the old city, near the funicular to the hilltop basilica and Roman theaters, and a short walk from the beau arts museum.

We were very happy here in the style of an older era. It is not slick in a modern sense, but it was just what we were looking for.

Excellent location in the centre of the city, 2 min walk from the Place Bellcour and all the attractions of the city centre - parking under the place Bellcour if required - only very busy street parking near the hotel itself. Old building with very narrow staircase (reasonable sized lift is available). Good continental breakfast with the possibility to boil eggs. Very friendly and accommodating staff, modernised rooms with comfortable bed (and pillows!) and modern well-equipped bathroom. Overall very good experience.

The room was small but comfortable and very quiet. There were plenty of convenient plug sockets. Reception staff were very helpful and accommodating. Shower pressure was excellent. The old town and Presqu'ile were within 10 minutes walk, very convenient.

Breakfast was quite expensive for a limited selection of meats, cheeses and pastries. There was the option of a boiled egg if you wanted something hot. There was no view from our room, just a wall outside.

Hôtel des Célestins was exactly as we hoped – clean, comfortable, friendly and full of character. The staff could not have been more helpful or more accommodating and the location was perfect, just a few minutes’ walk from Bellecour Metro station and its easy access to the airport. We had a fantastic view of the nearby Théâtre des Célestins, as well as the famous Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourvière, perched on its hilltop above the city. Breakfast was very good and the coffee excellent.

our room was a standard double room ( they kindly amended to a twin as requested ) room was quite small and a squeeze to get to the window we asked for a room with the view over the streets- just be aware that this can be quite loud with weekend fun - didn't spoil our trip at all

The hotel was idealy located close to everything you need such as restaurants, bars and places of interest. The staff were excellent. The rooms were very clean and were well maintained everyday.

The room we had was small. Very limited as to where to put our suitcases and clothes. Still, it had all we needed.

The location of the hotel is excellent. Easy walking distance to Vieux Lyon and the other attractions in the city. The rooms were very comfortable, great bathroom, comfortable beds, and very quiet. The hotel is located in the city centre, and is an old building, so it cannot offer some facilities you would get in a recently built hotel, but the location, room and service more than make up for this. I would be happy to stay there again in the future.

Lift was not working, but it was repaired quickly. Otherwise, everything was great.

The location was perfect - within walking distance to great shopping, restaurants/bars, main tourist attractions, ie. Old Town, Notre Dame, squares, fountains, outstanding Saturday/Sunday Market on the river; easy access to transportation. Good breakfast. The staff was AMAZING! They went above and beyond expectations to make sure our stay was great. They truly provided very impressive customer service! Celestins is lucky to have them as employees.

Excelent location, near the Saone river and walking distance to "Old Lyon" where we ate in two Michelin starred restaurants. The staff members were nice and helpful. We especially liked talking with the owner about his excellent photos display in the breakfast room.

We were promised a "courtyard view" and the window looked into a space about two feet deep. At least the ceiling was very high. The lift was too small for two people with two suitcases.

The hotel staff we very friendly and helpful.We arrived at a restaurant for a reservation the hotel made at our request a and it was closed. I called hotel and and they found us another restaurant nearby that was so outstanding that we went back to it a second night.
