Hotel Carlton

The location is excellent on the Place d'Opera, and our room had a side view onto the Place. The bathroom was well appointed, although it was very small. The beds were very comfortable, and the room was a good size. We enjoyed a drink in the View Bar although the service was rather slow. Breakfast had a good choice with wonderful fresh orange juice. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We saw quite a few different people at the reception desk and every one was charming.

The air conditioning didn't work, so we had to keep the window open regardless of the noise from the Place. We were rather shocked to see some children enter the breakfast room in their night clothes, this didn't seem appropriate for a four star hotel, or indeed any hotel. The hotel is a little bit overpriced, but nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return.

The recent history of scandals. Once we read about them we felt bad staying there. The staff could have been a bit warmer. The 4pm check-in is ridiculously late.

The location. Once we had got our bearings everything was in easy reach. The interior design was lovely and breakfast was very nice although overpriced at €20 per head. The staff were very friendly and helpful but one did forget to order our taxi (good job I checked) and we were also overcharged for something else but this was rectified very quickly. Housekeeping staff were more than helpful and worked very hard to ensure that rooms are clean and comfortable.

The huge “security deposit”. Totally over the top and overpriced. You also need to warn people about the air raid siren test as it really frightened me. It would be good to have directions in the room on how to contact reception and what buses go where etc. and places of interest.

The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Lille, and appears classy, even with a touch of luxury. The building is probably quite old, the floors in the rooms seemed particularly old (uneven) but for me it only added to the charm of the place :) The rooms are very comfortable, everything is functional. The breakfast was a bit pricey, the quality of food was good but there wasn't too much of a choice.

A rather huge deposit was requested upon check-in (which was indeed noted on the reservation), but the reception staff refused to accept cash payment; finally they agreed but it was not a very nice experience.

Great location in the centre of Lille and in a beautiful building. You will probably take pictures of it even if you do not stay in the hotel. Stylish and attractive common areas, lobby, bar, restaurant. The room felt larger than expected.

The only reason I have chosen Carlton, not other hotels, is that I needed a room in the centre with car parking. All nearby hotels have either 'No parking available' or 'Private parking is possible at a location nearby'. Carlton is the only one that advertises 'Private parking is possible on site'. This is not true! It is at a location nearby. It is not far. With light luggage, you will not even notice. But if you drag two heavy suitcases on cobblestones, you will. And it annoys me that I have not considered other places only because they gave true description of their hotels. From the moment my sat-nav indicated 10 minutes to the destination, it took me more than an hour, so jammed the centre was. Rather modest room furnishings.

The rooms very nice and very clean. The breakfast was excellent. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. If we came back to Lille we would stay there again but for longer this time (we only stayed 1 night as were there for a funeral)

The hours of the sauna could be extended to include mornings. The car park is not very well indicated. We passed it and with the one way system and multiple closed road it took us 1/2 hour to get back there (it’s only a 2 min walk from the hotel).

The hotel was easy to find and in an excellent location for exploring Lille. Temporary parking was available right outside the hotel to unload/load luggage. There was a relaxing sauna and good gym facilities on the top floor. The room was quiet, comfortable and had good air conditioning. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice and in the restaurant that has great views across the square, this really added to the value of the stay.

Surprised to be asked at check in to pay a €200 deposit for the room, was not advised of this in advance. The room and bathroom were a little tired, the decor needs updating a bit.

The hotel is very clean and has a cozy, warm atmosphere. At both checkin and checkout, the staff were fantastic. Very friendly and always ready to help you. The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the city centre. So it's perfectly situated to explore both the old and new parts of town. Our hotel room was spacious. The airconditioning was put at a very nice temperature. Not too cold or warm, especially considering there was a heat wave happening when we stayed there. The bathroom and toilet were both very neat and clean. In terms of hygienes, we had no issues whatsoever. Bathrobes, slippers, soaps, cremes, etc. were provided by the hotel which was a blessing. Lastly, breakfast at Carlton is well worth it. For 20 euro's you get a very varied and high quality breakfast. You have multiple options when it comes to both your sweet and savoury breakfast. There's viennoiseries as well as different cheeses, cold cuts, jams and so on. There was salmon, multiple choices of fresh, locally produced yoghurts (which were amazing btw), toppings such as nuts, dried fruits and granola, fresh fruits and a warm breakfast as well with eggs, sausages and bacon. Lots of choices in terms of hot (coffee, tea, hot chocolate and so on) and cold drinks (flavoured water, orange juice, other fruit juices). You will no doubt get your money's worth!

We had some slight issues with the plugs (they didn't charge). We let the staff know and the problem was immediately fixed. At checkout they even gave us a bottle of wine to apologise for the inconvenience. Needless to say that the staff were very friendly, considerate and accommodating.

Great character hotel. Fantastic location. Beautiful room, large and well furnished. Good breakfast too.

Bathroom was very small even in our Privilege Double Room. Our room was beautiful but rather noisy, not from the road but we had a family in the room next door and they were walking around and making a racket a lot, well after 11.00pm. That is just bad luck. We would certainly recommend Hotel Carlton.

Hotel location excellent. Paid Parking nearby. Friendly staff. Attent. Excellent communication via email and all our requests in advance (ie. flowers for the room) were handled quickly and efficiently. We also received 2 free drinks on the house because of birthday.
