Hotel Bologna ***S

Don't look any further. This is the hotel to stay at. Amazing! Check in was super easy. Pay at check out. Our room and bathroom were very spacious (room 224) and clean. Hotel has 4 levels. Elevator available. The staff is super friendly and will help with any questions or recommendations. The AC works great and is programmable. The hotel has free bike rental. Breakfast starts at 7:30. You can sit inside or outside. Amazing breakfast. Everything you can think off: pancakes, hardboiled eggs, fresh honey (yes, they have a honey comb), salami, prosciutto, ham, mortadella, brie, other cheeses, jams, cakes, and other pastries, mini croissants, cereal, cantaloupe, pineapple, watermelon, dark and white bread, various juices, and great strong coffee. You can't beat the location. Literally 30 seconds from the Arena di Verona and Piazza Bra and main shopping area (Mazzini). 5 min walk to Piazza delle Erbe (Market) where you can buy souvenirs, clothes and is located right in front of the lombardi tower which is the tallest tower in Verona at 83 meters. Take a little Verona tour train ride (meets @ 2 arches with the clock). Restaurant and food recommendations: Verona is known for Pastissada de caval (horse stew) and risotto amarone. Very delicious if you are up to be a little bit more adventurous. Great restaurant to try either one of them is Ristorante Greppia. To eat the best tiramisu in town, go to Ristrorante Nastro Azzurro (open 12-11pm). Most restaurants close at 2:30 and reopen at 7pm for dinner. You have to try Spritzer Aperol - prosecco, aperol, ice cubes, and soda water. Very refreshing and not too strong. You will find lots and lots of gelato stores - so delicious. If you have time and want to see other areas, I recommend Venice by train (1 hour and 25 minutes) or Lake Garda by train (22 min). Can't forget the Arena di Verona. 2100 years old and is one of the best outdoor arenas. We watched the Turandot Opera performance there and it was spectacular.

Excellent location near the arena and air conditioning that actually cooled to desired temperature. While the hotel is located near a lot of outside activity, there was no issue with noise penetrating our suite. We had the suite with private rooftop patio and Jacuzzi tub, which was clean and absolutely amazing! We would definitely stay in that suite again. Overall, this hotel was the highlight of all the 5 hotels we stayed at during this 2.5 week vacation.

Not a major issue, but the wifi didn't reach our rooftop patio. It also would have been nice if the young gentleman at the front desk would smile more - not sure he enjoys interfacing with the public. Everyone else was most pleasant.

The room was great. Very beautifully decorated. The food was great, whether it was breakfast or dinner. It was all good. The staff is amazing and fun. They were all so cheerful.

This is not the hotel's fault. During our visit, the city was doing road improvement around the location. We drove for 45 minutes, through these streets and couldn't get close the hotel. The detours just wouldn't let us and GPS apps didn't help. They had extra details on their web site, but they it didn't matter. We drove back across the river and found a parking garage, then walked back to the hotel.

The location is the best, right in old town, close to the all points of interest. The breakfast was very tasty. The price is very good considering the area where the hotel is located. The room is very nicely decorated, and so is the bathroom.

The room was a little bit smaller, but nice and clean. I did not find the bed very comfortable. The pillow was...totally uncomfortable and loud. There was a lot of noise in the morning, they started cleaning very early, you have no chance of sleeping after 7:30. Maybe the noise is because the walls are very thin. I could hear the lady in the next room talking on the phone as if it were in bed with us :)))

Probably one of the best breakfast selections we'd ever had. I had mentioned in a mail that I would need some gluten free breakfast options. As soon as we were seated and gave our room number, a selection of gluten free goods were brought to our table. Vast array of other items to choose from too, and everything was super fresh. Lovely room, excellent quality bedding. It was my partner's birthday, so they brought a bottle of Prosecco to the room. The location is so central, seconds away from Piazza Bra and via Mazzini.

The lift is quite small, perfectly adequate but a tight squeeze for a wheelchair. The room was quite hot.

Best location in town, steps away from the arena. Design of the room/bathroom. Very accommodating staff especially with check-in and parking. Great buffet for breakfast, with juicy fruits, cakes, pastries, cookies, ham, omelette, eggs, ......

Isolation of the room, waking up with the sound of doors banging when every guests leave their room (probably due to the location of our room next to the staircase). Some staff members joking in Italian about how they could charge my girlfriend who was checking-out and knew less then me about prices. Unfortunately she was also an italian speaker.

Location was perfect couldn’t get anywhere nearer to the centre and surprised how quiet in such a busy area. Room had everything we expected and more especially tea/coffee making facilities. Was a bit small but we expected that although the shower cubicle was a bit squashed and could be a problem for taller guests. Breakfast was fantastic with hot and cold choices and large selection of breads/croissants/fruit/eggs/bacon.

Nice room with tasteful furnishing, although the desk was quite large for the room. The whole hotel felt clean, up to date and nice looking. Bed was good and room size was OK. Breakfast was the best I have had in Italy, absolutely fantastic.

Shower was very small with weird placing of the shower in the middle of the tight space. Silicone seal in the corners of the shower could also be changed as it looked moldy. Mostly staff could be more attentive and friendly. It felt like a nuisance for the staff each time a guest showed up.

Superb hotel. Old Italian charm with modern amenities. Staff were incredibly helpful throughout. They facilitated all our requests with a smile. The location next to the arena and main square could not have been better. The breakfast was so good with a fantastic choice of great quality foods and beverages. Top recommendation.

Nothing, really. The room was on the small side but a small price to pay for accommodation of such character and quality.

I went to Verona for the opera festival and this hotel is very well located for it, being just a minute from the arena. The room was clean and staff were friendly. There is a kettle in the room with some tea and instant coffee. At breakfast, there is good coffee available to order.

The room was quite small, and the shower was tiny - I am rather petite and found it a bit tricky to be in the shower. The shower head also was leaking and made loud noises. I think this should be an easy fix (just change the shower head) so I hope the hotel will do it soon. Breakfast was okay, quite continental with lots of cold cuts and pastries. The hot kinds of food could be a bit more.
