We were met very late on arrival from Tallinn Airport (only 15 minutes drive) by the very friendly and helpful English owner Jonathan, who had been waiting up for us. I was travelling with my adult son on a week-long wildlife visit to Estonia (bears, lynx, flying squirrels etc). He offered a glass of wine on the house and showed us to our excellent room The hotel is a fascinating warren of floors and rooms, with an attractive courtyard. Down in the cellar just below street level is the large breakfast room - where the large breakfasts are served. A real treat, with lots of choice. We were really impressed with the whole place: it's bang in the heart of old Tallinn, everything works well (we had a free sauna one evening) and the staff were charming and helpful. We had really good dinners twice at the Vegan Restoran V on Rataskaevu, about a 1 minute walk from the Merchant’s House Hotel.

Struggling to think of anything… Jonathan even had a friend who'd been seeing lynx in his garden in the previous few days. But an invitation to go and hang out there would have been beyond the call of even the best hotelier's duty!

(Visited EST from California.) The location is as good as it gets - just steps from everything. It is across the street from a very noisy pub, yet inside the hotel is blissfully quiet. We didn't hear any street noise or neighbors. (One thing to be aware of though is that you cannot drive up to it. If you have a car, you'll need to find parking quite a distance away and you'll have to walk and drag your luggage over cobblestones to get to the hotel. For us it was not a big deal as we got dropped off at the corner and we are all able-bodied and had no trouble with getting our luggage into the hotel. However, I can see this being an issue for some people. So this is definitely something to be aware of when choosing your hotel!) The hotel itself is lovely but there is room for improvement. Our room (family room with a sofabed) was impeccably clean but plain. Based on the photos on the website we were expecting to stay at a much more charming and pretty hotel, so we were slightly disappointed in the aesthetics of our room. Some art on the walls, dimmers on the lights and a shower curtain would go a long way. Also, a topper on the sofa bed! My 11 year old is easygoing and didn't complain but if it was me who had to sleep on that sofa I wouldn't have been able to... There was no information sheet to be found with things like WiFi (we had to call and ask the receptionist), breakfast hours, map of the hotel, etc. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the service top notch. We were initially surprised to hear a lot of Russian spoken by the staff but then learned that most of the staff are Ukrainian refugees. Everyone we came in contact with was exceptionally nice and helpful.

It was a good central location for the old town, near to some great restaurants for dinner and only around 25 minute walk from the port. We only stayed for one night but it was a comfortable room and we were able to borrow umbrellas from reception during a downpour.

The shower is attached to the bath with no shower curtain or screen which makes it tricky to shower without getting everything wet but it's not a big problem.

Overall a nice place to stay! Very helpful and friendly staff at the reception and good breakfast (which is paid separately). It is as central as it can get - beautiful! Bed and room were generally fine, and it was cozy with some pillows at the window. Hotel was open throughout the night with reception staff being available anytime.

Considering the price for a relatively small single room with shower (and without a bathtub) is the same as it is for an apartment (also here at Booking.com) - I just don't think it justifies the value you get for money. I considered getting an upgrade, however the cost was exactly double - whereas I haven't actually noted that many people during my stay. I was very happy to pay extra, but double I considered too much. The inner yard was beautiful, however not used at all due to the season - getting some tents over (as chairs and tables were always wet) and perhaps a couple of outdoor heaters would certainly revive it. The added value proposition was not present compared to basic expectations (based on Booking.com info) - other than very nice staff!

It was a pleasure to stay in this lovely little hotel, situated in the old town of Tallinn. The girl with brown long hair in the reception was so nice and always had a smile on her face. We also got to meet the owner of the hotel, he was really nice and helpful as well. The breakfast was lovely and you could order some warm food from the kitchen. Our room was perfect, with a bath tub in the middle of the room. This was our second visit to the hotel and we will definitely come back.

Old substance without being kitschy. Perfect location as it is not far from the buzz, yet perfectly quiet and not hidden in the maze of old town alleys. Loved the b&w photos of old Tallinn in the stairwell and corridors.

While the room was very quiet (top floor, facing the inner court), the bed perfectly soft (not too soft) and set up in a cuddly niche, during the hot August nights that niche becomes a little heat trap. Neither the A/C nor a fully open window manage to cool down that corner of the room during those few days in August. A fan might do the trick since it is probably the only room with that minor inconvenience.

Everything! The building is wonderful. Rooms are so beautiful and it seems that you are sleeping in a castle. The position is perfect, right in the center. What we liked the most is the staff. A special thanks goes to Heleni, the sweetest and kindest girl I've ever met! ❤️ thank you also to Margarita for being so nice and Jonathan, the owner, who is a wonderful man! I would rate it more than 10 if I could. Thank you

Absolutely nothing! It was just perfectly splendid!

This hotel is a real gem. It is right in the Old Town with plenty of things to do and see within a very short walk. My room was comfortable and well appointed. Excellent breakfast. The staff were really helpful and kind. I had an issue with a (temporarily) lost travel document and they went to great lengths to help me with phone calls and even visiting the place where I had dropped my documents. That is amazing! As and when I return to Tallinn I will definitely be staying here.

Our flight was delayed by 3 hours so we arrived at about 3 am to a very warm welcome by the owner, Jonathan, who provided us with a much-needed drink! Location excellent - very close to Town Hall square. Staff friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfasts; large comfortable suite - quiet and clean. Highly recommended.

Nothing! It was just what we wanted.
