The Indian staff Gotham (i think i got his name right) was very polite and accommodating, he deserves a 5 stars. The hotel is dated but liveable, thing i can suggest is that they can remove the wooden cabinets to make space for the luggage especially if the visitors are from international flights. The bread coffee and fruits during breakfast are acceptable, but i hope they can add at least boiled eggs.

Not enough space for luggage and the shampoo conditioner and body wash were not refilled.

Relatively low price for SF, excellent personnel. The room comfort was on the minimalist side: small room, a little dated, without desk, etc. But it was really clean, comfortable, and quiet. This was exactly the quality/price ratio I was searching for (~150€/night). Perfect wifi network. The hotel neighborhood was safe. Breakfast was proposed (pastries, bread, juice & coffee). Many options for more advanced breakfast in the neighborhood, when desired.

Price was consistent with the pros and cons of the hotel (see above).

Room and bed were comfy. Washroom was excellent. There was an old style elevator. Never used one before..It was cool.

Television was only Roku. Could not get regular TV. So, missed local news etc. This of course meant that a visitor has to already have paid for subscriptions. Also, the feed to the TV had issues and there was delays while watching something. It got very frustrating. Breakfast was available but it really was a joke. No ORANGE JUICE, APPLE JUICE AND NO WATER. So, if you don't drink coffee, you're out of luck. The milk containers were not marked what they were so I had to pour the milk out to see what it was. I ended up going to a great place for breakfast nearby. Mason Cafe..excellent breakfast and service. One more thing...NO Air Conditioning...which, you don't really need %90 of the time in San Fran..but, always good to have the option.

Perfectly clean, reasonable price & great location. Refrigerator was very cold and I could take a very hot shower.

Housekeeping kept knocking at my door although it was before the 11 am check-out time and I had the "do not disturb" sign on the door. Why were they surprised I was in a bad mood? TV not hooked up to internet so there was no anything. Strange there was no microwave when the mini-fridge had capacity for frozen meals and restaurant leftovers. There was an iron but no ironing board.

My wife and I ended up at the Fitzgerald hotel unplanned. Our original destination was Calgary Alberta in Canada. Our trip to Calgary just didn't work out. Being from Michigan we knew nothing of San Francisco. We were on a budget. All the hotels seemed to run $350+ a night. We searched hotels near Chinatown and Fisherman's wharf. That is where we wanted to be. After many searches we came across the Fitzgerald. We could get a room for Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately not for Friday night. So Friday night we slept at the airport from 11 p.m. to 6 p.m. We slept actually means my wife slept while I watched over her and our belongings. We arrived at the hotel at 7 a.m. just hoping they would have a vacant room. No dice. They let us stay in the lobby which was so gracious. We did an early breakfast and tour of San Francisco and returned to the hotel at 1 p.m. Our room was ready for us - 2 hours early. They went out of their way to make sure our room was ready because they knew how tired we would be. The entire staff at the Fitzgerald was very nice and accommodating. Talking to the staff was like talking to friends. They answered all our questions and gave us advice on what to see and where to go. I enjoy a hotel with character and history. This hotel fits the bill. The elevator here is unique. It has a metal grate that you pull across to board the elevator and you take the metal grate and close it for the elevator to close. I would love to stay here a few more weeks. Unfortunately my stay here ends tomorrow morning. I will miss this place.

The provided Breakfast lacks. It is just coffee, juices and toast. My only critique.

It was very close to the central area of San Francisco with a decent price amount the neighborhood. There was a free self-served simple breakfast which was a happy surprise for us. Highly recommend for budget travelers who want to enjoy the convenience of sightseeing while on a low budget.

The interior and furniture was extremely old and had a strong smell of an old house. The elevator was old and had to manually open the door which was troublesome when carrying suitcases. The amenities were minimal but I guess that is the price you pay for traveling on a low budget.

The breakfast being served until 10:00am on a weekday was very nice. Many facilities we have visited recently have breakfast open until 10:00am only on the weekends and close it down at 08:30am on weekdays. The sliced fresh mango available with breakfast was wondeful.

The parking for people that are driving in is suspect at first, but once that is accepted as necessary it is fine. And the parking being very secure was an added bonus. The only draw back was not having the parking facility staffed 24/7 and having to have the vehicle inside the parking garage by 10:00pm (weekdays only - midnight on weekends). I do realize the parking facility is not owned by the hotel and the parking rules are out of the hotels realm of responsibility.

All round value for money. Lots of choices on tv Easy to control heat Less street dwellers outside than most downtown hotels.

Stayed here twice in Feb. Room 609 smelt slightly damp and musty but 203 was fine Walk to Bart ( Powell) is about 10 mins No other negatives this place is very slightly faded but basically fine..I would repeat stay

Very comfortable and clean bedding, Lot of equipment (iron, hair dryer, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, alarm clock). Breakfast is included in the price. Next to union square, less than 10 min from a cable car station and other public transportation

It's in the city downtown so if you are street side it's noisy at night. The old elevator has its charm but it's not practical to go inside with the suitcases
