Absolutely stunning room (junior suite) in a beautiful property. Mar Hall has a "staying in a chateau" feel. The front desk staff were warm, professional, and helpful. Our room had a large bathroom, high ceilings, and a gorgeous canopied bed. There was plenty of seating and a gorgeous view. The bar area and large sitting room were well-appointed and comfortable.

Service was a bit slow at dinner and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was well-stocked with quality products, but I was surprised a venue of this quality didn't have the option for a la carte breakfast. These are minor quibbles, though.

The grounds and hotel are large, well-kept and beautiful. The gothic architecture and antique style of the decor is unique and enchanting. Our room was large, the bed was comfortable and it was clean with all expected amenities including turn down service. We loved having afternoon tea in the main hall and spent much of our days just hanging out near the large windows overlooking the grounds. We enjoyed using the "Leisure Club" amenities which included a well-stocked gym and a very warm indoor pool with sauna, both were a special treat on a cold rainy day.

We enjoyed our food, we had two dinners, afternoon tea and several cocktails. However it is worth mentioning that the service at dinner was a little lacking as we waited for drinks and a waiter to come by for longer than you would expect on several occasions, just not the kind of service you are expecting during a fine dining experience. Also, the cocktails were not the best, especially for the price. We had much higher quality gin and tonics at other stays on our trip. But the food overall was solid - we especially enjoyed the trout at dinner, the mac and cheese, chips and afternoon tea.

We were here for our daughter's wedding, so we were on the moon to begin with, but Mar Hall didn't disappoint. First, they upgraded us to a Junior Suite from a Deluxe Room and it was gorgeous and enormous! Second, the staff went out of their way for us - always pleasant, smiling and willing to help out. The food manager herself personally saw to some of our requests. My husband had a cold and she made ginger tea with lemon for him. Really sweet! The hotel is beautiful. Breakfast was a traditional Scottish breakfast and very good. The desk took care of getting taxis for us. Ubers are hard to get in Bishopton. Also, apparently the hotel was quite busy, but it is so huge you'd never know it!

Beautiful property, great location, clean and spacious rooms. We got a free upgrade to a deluxe room due to genius rewards which was amazing. We used the gym which was well equipped and went for a swim (heated pool) - opening hours were great. We were offered a turn over service in the evening but didn’t require. 11am check out was nice! We were only able to stay a night this time but would love to come back again in the future !

It would be nice to have an earlier check in, a fan in the room for the warm nights and more information on check in or in the room about what food and drinks we available onsite.

The room was spectacular - a big and well furnished room with a gorgeous bathroom. Wonderfuil view across the clyde. We spent our 20th wedding aniversary here and this was a great experience. Pool and gym was excellent.

Breakfast was average - if you are an optimist. It was o.k. but this was it. The same holds for the'fine dining' - the food was o.k. but unfortunately not more. I have to mention one great plus: We selected a wine for dinner and asked for a dry wine - when our selection did not pass the initial tasting, the staff braught another bottle and this wine was excellent. This saved the evening.

Stayed on a weekend. First shown a room known for an extremely hot radiator they cannot turn off. Sweltering. And it was the furthest room from the entrance. Very strange for a solo traveler. And the next room had the front courtyard view and there was a wedding and the dance band was blaring their music until 12 midnight. I couldn’t even hear the tv or talk on the phone. Ridiculously loud! I never would have stayed there had I know. Plus the front desk and male waiters were incredibly snooty. Beautiful property, but personnel needs improvement. There were two sweet young maids who were very helpful when changing rooms.

We liked the room upgrade as the room was stunning. We do feel though that given the leisure facilities were not open and a big reason for why we visited mar hall over other hotels that the hotel should have offered us something else perhaps a voucher to use in the future for this when it’s fixed. Aside from this everything else was great and staff very friendly too and we had a lovely time celebrating my husbands birthday.thanks mar hall!

The staff were really friendly and the welcome by Mark at reception was exceptional. Ewan, also at reception was great and Finn in the dining room was a clear example of a well trained member of staff dedicated to serve clients of the hotel. The breakfast was good with items available to order from a menu as well as the normal cold and hot buffet. The location is second to none and more than compares with any hotel in any area of the country. The swimming pool and spa area was superb and the hotel is well worth a visit for that alone. Again the staff throughout the hotel were fantastic and a real asset to the hotel

While Finn in the dining room was an excellent server we felt that the food was way overpriced and the drink too. Fine its a five star establishment, but make it more attractive to people by having a rethink on the prices.

My husband and I love old property’s so this was perfect for us so royal & grand. Booked as its somewhere more luxurious to stay for a mini moon just post 3 weeks of when we got married, We arrived to reception to be told they had up graded us from a deluxe to a junior suite, which was amazing! The bed was out of this world we missed breakfast both mornings as we couldn’t get out of bed lol. The spa was nice only 1 couple in at the same time as us both days which was a bonus. The view from our room was breathtaking, stunning views of the hills and the river Clyde. First night we dinned in the hotel restaurant second night we jumped a taxi to a local restaurant , food in the hotel was beautiful so tasty & nice size portions. On day 2 we dinned in the great hall for a beautiful afternoon tea, as a person whom loves afternoon teas this was up there with my top 5. Staff were so lovely & helpful. Can not wait to come back to stay.

- Location is not central, at least £30 taxi ride from Glasgow train station, no local shops - Service could be improved, I had to wait 20 mins to check in as the receptionist was busy on the phone and there was no-one else around to serve me. Myself and group of colleagues ordered drinks in lobby, only a few of them came, one did not arrive despite multiple reminders - Breakfast was not 5* at all, there is good table service choices but the buffet part was lacking in variety, barely any fruit and limited selection. - Lighting in the bathroom and main rooms is poor - very dark rooms - No information given to me about spa facilities, nothing in rooms about opening/closing times and spa treatments
