The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. Location and restaurant were great!

This is the second time we stayed here. The first time we had a comfortable room and pleasant view. This time we were on the fourth floor in a room under the roof. It wasn’t possible to get in bed without bending over to avoid hitting our heads. The fourth floor is the laundry facility and the housekeeping staff begin their day early so we also were awakend by them and the sound of several washing machines and carts being moved around. What a shame. The hotel is delightful, but we would not stay again if it meant being on the fourth floor.

The Goldener Schleuessel is an excellent, traditional hotel which is owned by a family-run business that has restaurants and food as its main interests. Consequently, the food and service in the hotel restaurant was excellent and competitively priced when compared to other local restaurants. The room was large and very comfortable with easy access by the lift and by the stairs. The hotel is an easy walk from the main train station and right in the centre of the lovely old city centre. Pretty much everything can be reached on foot if you like walking. There are plenty of lovely, well-signposted walks around the hotel and along the river Aare.

The colour scheme in the room! It is an old building therefore soundproofing isn't wonderful but given the age of the building that is to be expected. They do provide earplugs for those who are particularly light sleepers! We did not need to use them and slept well. The restaurant would benefit from a daily special or two to augment the delicious offerings.

you’re paying for the location especially. it is much cheaper to stay outside of the old town, but trust me, the old town is just so incredibly beautiful that it was worth it to stay in the old town. everything in the old town is 5-10 minutes walk. Worth it, in my opinion. the room was just fine: clean, larger than expected for such an old building. reasonably modern bathroom etc. I saw complaints in the comments about it being loud at night time but we didn’t hear anything!

Excellent location in the Old Town, walking distance to Zytglogge and the cathedral. Lots of public transport options nearby. Shops, bars and restaurants very close. Bed was comfortable and nice modern bathroom. Staff were lovely.

No bedside table. Walls aren't very soundproof - heard my neighbor snoring all night long. Very old building however so I suppose it is to be expected. Bring earplugs if you are sensitive to noise as the street noise is also a little loud at night.

Great location in the old town of Bern within walking distance to the main station, all the beautiful shops and many more attractions of the city. However, I did not stay for pleasure, but still enjoyed its location. I got a room under the roof which was very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was really good and offered a variety of choices of bread, fruit, müsli, cheese and much more (however, I don't think they offer warm/ English breakfast, which is fine for me). On top of it all, staff was very friendly.

My bed was a little hard but okay. However, I always struggle when not sleeping in my own bed.

The room on the sixth floor was quiet, and I especially appreciated the comfortable bed. The staff at the reception desk was especially helpful with getting me oriented to the city and providing very good information. The breakfast was very good, and the dining room quite pleasant.

I had troublel with changing the tv to be able to view the English channel. Staff did adjust for me once, but it didn't hold. Not a big issue as I wasn't that interested in watching tv.

Perfect location. We'll kept and modern room.

Very small room. A closet is useless for guests as most people simply pull clothes from their luggage. The clothes hangar bar is sufficient. There was no place to open a luggage, even with the stand provided as the space between the bathroom wall and closet is too small. We have just carryon luggage and couldn't open to lay flat. Had to use the floor. Very tight bathroom space but manageable.

Breakfast was very nice, great croissants. Room also good- as a solo traveller it was nice to have a good size bed instead of a small single one often gets. Shower was powerful. My fan was broken but it was replaced upon request. Location great - close to everything. Great to have a kettle.

Not a criticism of the hotel, just something to be aware of in warmer months if you feel the heat and are noise-sensitive. It was 30'C much of my stay meaning the room was very hot. You definitely need the fan they provided! It was cooler outside than in. The central location also means that everyone is of course eating and drinking past 10pm on the street below so it's too loud to keep the window open for air (so again, use the fan! ;)) The windows do a good job of sealing the noise out though. For the bed, it'd be good to have more than one pillow.

Location was perfect in old town Bern. 500 year old hotel with a lot of character. Easy walk to everything including train station, trams etc.

No air conditioning! Beware of staying here in mid summer. Rooms were hot. Actually, none of the hotels in old town have a/c. They are within UNESCO heritage site so it is not permitted.

The room was nice and location was great!

There was no ac so we had to keep the windows open at night to get some air. There are a few bars around the hotel and people stay up late drinking and smoking, so the sound kept us up until almost sunrise and we could smell the cigarette smoke. Without the windows open the room was too hot. This was during summer so I’m sure it wouldn’t be bad in winter.
