Ilunion Málaga

The location is excellent, just a 5 minute walk from the train station with connections to the airport and various other towns along the Costa del Sol. The historic centre is a 10 minute walk away. The rooms are big and spacious with all the facilities required for a short stay in Malaga. A huge breakfast buffet is available and also the addition of a swimming pool is a bonus.

The breakfast had options for everyone and they had everywhere around the hotel fresh water and apples. Housekeeping was done everyday and 2 bottles of water were always in our fridge. We also used the laundry services -fast and efficient.

The gym could use an improvement (more weights and equipment, they had a lot for cardio only). The pool area is quite small for the size of the hotel. The sun is there after 12 o’clock and we never caught an empty bed sun. The restaurant is..mediocre and could use a refreshing (for a salad is ok).

Hotel easy to find. Welcoming staff. Room was a lovely size.

Air con unit in bedroom i could not lower from 22 degrees So i found myself turning the blower on low for a while to cool the room down. Then turn the blower off. Then on again when uncomfortable again. Fully understand the hotel needs to be more in control of the air con in the rooms but in the height of summer...hopefully the hotel turns the ambient room temp down lower than 22. Main lift in reception - when parked in hotel car park 2 floors underground, the lift seemed to take an eternity to arrive, way more than 5 mins, i almost called reception to tell them it wasn't working properly. But we didnt know another way apart from walk up the car park levels to get to reception, so waited patiently. And eventually, it came.

Nice sized room. For some reason I was allocated a reduced mobility room, which had a well equipped bathroom for those that require handrails, seats in the shower and that type of equipment, (I was just staying for 1 night so I didn’t query it). Staff were polite and helpful. Hotel was very clean. Check in and check out was a simple and quick affair. It’s well placed near the port and fairly close to restaurants. The single bed was comfy, (I was given a twin room even though I’d requested a double bed). The hotel has an underground garage at 18€ a day and the lift goes down to the garage, (reception will validate you ticket and charge you the cost of the parking). There’s a pool but I didn’t have time to use it but we were offered towels at reception (there’s a deposit to pay). Hotel has a nice snack bar which I did use in the evening, but the menu is limited.

Breakfast was quite expensive at 16€ considering what’s on offer. There’s little choice and what’s on offer is mediocre considering the cost. The air conditioning in the room was a bit strong for my liking and I couldn’t adjust it so I had to turn it off and open the window.

Staff were very helpful and went out of their way to help us and make our stay comfortable and easy for us. Check in was so easy, rooms were to a modern standard, clean and very comfortable with a nice sea view. Great to have the pool and health and wellbeing facilities in the hotel too. Our son had a lot of fun in the pool.

The only thing was information around restaurant opening times, menus and pricing (including pricing for things in the mini bar). This was very hard to find! And although there was a QR code to scan in the room we didn't find this really answered our questions on restaurant opening times and menu choices, nor pricing. We ended up dining out, but if this information was avaialble more readily we would have been more likely to dine in the hotel restaurant.

A well run hotel with spacious, comfortable and very functional rooms. The hotel was a haven of calm (after leaving the processions for Semana Santa behind). A good continental breakfast (buffet) in a pleasant breakfast room or terrace. A good sized pool with gym and sauna/steam room kept very clean (pool covered and heated in April which was great). All staff were courteous and helpful, maid service excellent. The one evening meal we had in the small downstairs bar/restaurant was very good value. Lovely views along the coast from the external glass lift!

Room overlooked by corridor window (at corner of courtyard) so had to keep net curtains closed (small irritation). Not much scope for sunbathing by pool as only a few sun beds and not always in sunshine.

Arrived in the early hours after late night delayed flight. This hotel was chosen because of 24 hr reception and better value than some others. However I would certainly not hesitate to book again if coming to Malaga for a few days. Located nearer the port. About 20 mins walk to the promenade and the cathedral. Less than 10 min walk to Maria Zambrano train station and the bus station. Very modern hotel with lovely staff. Large spacious reception. Excellent breakfast with good variety of hot and cold food.

Great breakfast with a wide selection and freshly made food. Large rooms with very comfortable beds, rooms are clean. The hotel is a bit away from the city center, but there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby.

Elevators are very slow and inefficient. Parking is a bit convoluted with a separate entrance, tickets, and the need to call reception through the intercom when leaving and entering.

-Booked this hotel due to spa facilities and pool. No towels at pool. Nowhere to change at pool. No bathrobes available so had to bring towel from room and walk back to room wrapped in towel via lift which is glass and so you are visible to the outside street and main road. Toilets didn't lock at pool. Sauna door was constantly left open, advise putting a sign on the door to remind patrons to close the door firmly. The showers were supposed to be different temperatures but were not. The jacuzzi is not hot as expected but the same temperature as the pool. -No body lotion, hair conditioner or face cloths available. I expect a 4* spa hotel to have these available.

I guess visiting Malaga is a city break rather than a pool/ beach holiday although we did 6 nights and treated it as both and Malaga didn’t disappoint. The only small small detail would be the pool is undercover for some reason ( I guess that caters for winter city breaks?) and the sun lounger area is small and surrounded by tall buildings which means there’s limited time in the sun but really that’s nothing and it wouldn’t put us off using the hotel again
