Gallery Prawirotaman Hotel

I really enjoy staying at this hotel. I would give it a 9.5 rating overall. I have stayed here before. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and spacious with good, comfortable beds and small refrigerators and safes. The bathrooms were also clean and good sized with great showers..Two bottles of free water were provided each day. The buffet breakfast is amazing,, especially for a hotel in this price range. Location is very good.

The nearby mosque was having some kind of program that they were continuously using the loudspeakers from 4:00am to after 6:00 am that made it very difficult to sleep if your room was on the city side, which mine was. I know this was not something that the hotel can control and they were unable to tell me what the occasion was or how long it would continue.. I would definitely stay here again but want to stay on the mountain side as a precaution.

Staying in Prawirotaman as a foreigner proved to be an excellent decision, and The Gallery Hotel was the perfect choice for accommodation. Nestled in the heart of Prawirotaman, this 4-floor hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. My room, boasting a picturesque view of the pool, was incredibly spacious and provided the utmost comfort. I highly recommend opting for the room package that includes breakfast, as it offers a delightful introduction to typical Indonesian cuisine each day. The attentive waitstaff were always on hand to explain the intricacies of each dish, adding to the overall dining experience. The spa located on the 5th floor more than made up for it, offering top-notch massages that left me feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. Additionally, the convenient drop-off service to the airport provided by the hotel's shuttle bus is an excellent option for travelers, priced at a reasonable 80,000 IDR.

While the hotel does offer tours to various tourist destinations, I found them to be slightly overpriced compared to options available in the surrounding area.

Value for money. From Level 5 at sunrise you can see Mount Merapi smoking. Nearby laundry + travel agents who can arrange day excursions quite cheaply. Excellent halal breakfast. Cheap and good massage options nearby. Good WIFI. About 2.2 km (30,000 Rph) away from the main street Malioboro. Use Gojack & Grab. Nearby (about 400 meters) money changer though rates are about 10% worse. Nearby restaurants, bakery, massage shop, Gelato etc. (access via 1 meter wide opening opposite hotel).

Poor breakfast choices for vegetarian people. Loud broadcast of prayers can be heard in the rooms 3 to 4 times per day. Massage in hotel is VERY expensive and costs 2.5 times the rates nearby. Hotel arranged excursions are expensive with extra 20% charge. Frequent SHORT interruptions to electricity supply.

Excellent I have been to this hotel every year since 2014 with my wife. staff excellent courtious diligent hospitality excellent, good breakfast, clean & comfortable. Easy access to cetral Yogyakarta such as maliboro & in the Prawirotaman western sector close to all the taverners. Go straight from entrance down the ally & you come out by Via via restaurant & all other bars & cafe's. The English hospitality industry could learn a thing or to from this hotel! Service with a smile, not a snarl.

We tried to extend our stay but fully booked, shows how popular. But can't critisise them for that

This is a mid size family hotel in an old building. The staff are always helpful, the breakfast is a decent spread. We were there over the new year so it was quite fully booked. The location is great as we just cut through a small lane between 2 building plots to get to the other street where the cafes were. The lane was narrow but interesting with graffiti art.

Our first room was quite dark, maybe we were given that as we booked quite late. But the staff was able to switch us to a better, brighter room after some guests checked out. Also the first room faced the pool and it was always crowded so we couldn’t draw open the curtains. There wasn’t much in the hotel, though there was a small top floor “massage” area but the set up was very basic.

Breakfast was good, different foods on different days. cheap ramen store across the road. limited smoking room at the top floor, with only staircase access for the smoking room. smoked in Balcony

Room was not so brightly lit, bathroom was quite dark. sink was choked and resulted in slow waste water discharge, requested to clear the choke twice in 2 days but still not done after checked out end of the fifth night stay. little far from main street Maibolo. Mattress with surface caved in ( long used by many guests before ) room could be more sound proof, waking up by the prayer every morning.

Alvi greeted us with a smile and checked us in smoothly and efficiently when we arrived late in the evening. The room was superb, a bit worn but everything was there and the bed was comfy. Breakfast offered a lot of choices and was freshly prepared early in the morning. It was easy to get around from the location of the hotel and it was a very good value for money.

We attended a dinner promotion but the staff appeared not too familiar with the program. Only few wine glasses available and the food choices were not very well prepared and presented. There seems to be a big discrepancy between the very nice breakfast setup and the soso dinner arrangement. The nearby Koran reading and prayers started very early in the morning and were disturbing our sleep.

Overall: This hotel is great! I stayed for five nights in mid-August and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and the hotel was nice too. I speak Bahasa, but didn't have to use it once since the hotel staff members speak good English and are used to traveler questions and needs. Gallery Prawirotaman is not sleek and modern, but rather stately and with a more luxurious/old-fashioned decoration, which I personally prefer to Western hotels' metallic minimalism. Gallery Prawirotaman is well-kept, comfortable, and quite nice to look at as well. The hotel driver, Dwi Prapta Yulianta, not only drove me to Borobudur but helped me get last-minute tickets and also took me to a nearby Buddhist monastery and ancient temple. Room & amenities: My room was clean and neat. The balcony was also quite nice :) The daily breakfast buffet had different dishes each day in a wide variety of offerings from American breakfast treats to Indonesian breakfast and Western lunch/dinner, as well as two kinds of juice and 3 kinds of fruit each day; I got room service my first night (an Indonesian dish) and it was quickly delivered, delicious, and at a competitive price. Location: The hotel is about a 20 minute drive south of the city center. There are several hotels and hostels on this street, and with them comes multiple small restaurants and food stands for a quick bite right in the area. The neighborhood is mostly residential and peaceful. Now, I've seen several reviews complaining about the noise, and others that said the hotel was very quiet--after five days at Gallery Prawirotaman, I can tell you that this area is very quiet and relaxing - except during the call to prayer. Indonesia is a majority-Muslim country, so like the rest of the country, Yogyakarta has speakers that broadcast the mosques' calls across the city.

The hotel hallways were a bit dark.

I loved staying here. The pool was lovely and the food in the restaurant was great. I was initially hesitant about staying in a hotel that wasn’t close to Malioboro but actually the neighbourhood it was in was gorgeous, with nice coffee shops. It was nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the malioboro and easy to get taxis/grabs to all the attractions.

I think there could have been more information given on the tours etc available or how they could be booked. As a solo traveller arriving in Yogya for first time it would have been nice to get a bit more information about where we could find tourist information even if the hotel could not provide it. It was a bit of a shame as I felt a bit out of the loop

Everything was good! Definitely a great choice for a central, quick stay in Yogyakarta. Great location as well, surrounded by local restaurants and handy stores. Also, very kind staff. Breakfast buffet has tones of options.

I expected the pool to be refreshing but the water was rather warm. Not sure if this is something they could have influenced though, the weather was intense… The gym is in the basement, not very welcoming but enough for a simple workout. The bike in there made annoying squeaky noice while in use.
