Holiday Inn Essen City Centre, an IHG Hotel

The hotel was clean and the bar area was nice - the guy serving behind the bar was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast was OK although I wasn't keen on the choice of hot breakfast available (personal choice though).

The room was so hot - to the point of being uncomfortable. There was no AC unit so the only way to cool the room down was to have both the windows open. The room was on the main road so this became very noisy at night. It was almost like the heating was on! Reception staff were not particularly friendly or helpful.

location and helpful staff although early morning disturbance by housekeeping was an minor issue. Hotel was very close to restaurants and a shopping centre with a taxi rank nearby to making inner city travelling a pleasure

Reported repairs for faulty windows and was promised repairs for next day..... However this did not happen and made for a hot room and uncomfortable sleep at night. Also used hotel bar but was not informed they served a very expensive brandy until after it was poured and informed that they had started a tab. Could have made for a very uncomfortable situation...such things should be made plainly clear to aid those who may still wish to enjoy the town but may be on a budget.

The hotel is a bit old but everything inside is quite clean. We had a really nice sized room with a small kitchenette as well. It was perfect to stay there with our baby. It is also right in the middle of the city, very close to all forms of public transport, there are restaurants all around and a big mall just across the road. It's good value for money!

Some of the staff were really not that friendly or helpful. The parking at the hotel is quite good since the hotel is located in the middle of the city. It's just extremely difficult to get in and there are no signs or instructions.

Clean, comfortable and convenient, very good value for money too Breakfast selection and quality was excellent, the best that I’ve had in any hotel I’ve stayed in in recent years.

The staff were all very helpful and respectful apart from the person who checked me in. This person was downright rude, disrespectful and appeared to have zero customer focus. This persons actions spoiled an otherwise excellent experience

Breakfast was absolutely delicious. The location was convenient and close to amenities such as a shopping mall and train station. The room was spacious and comfortable in terms of temperature and restfulness.

There could have been a drain to drain water that made it outside of the shower. It ended up being really wet and cold and I had to use multiple towels to dry up the water. There was a window that was unable to be opened horizontally, which felt really odd.

We were travelling across the Germany because we had quite long holidays (leisure trip). It was our first place to stay overnight. We are quite satisfied with that hotel located in city center. At the reception we have been answered all the questions, it was a very friendly experience 🙂 The room itself is very spacious and equipped with everything you need. Next day we enjoyed delicious and various breakfast. Might be recommended for the people with children for overnight or few overnights.

We liked everything, to be honest. Especially water bed which helped a lot to float us away to sleep and the A/C which kept the temperature all night. If you fancy a beer, try cold Stauder from a local brewery - it has it all! For food lovers - "Artemis", a Greek family restaurant, 5min walk from the hotel. Super tasty food in very reasonable prices. :-)

No issues observed. Try to arrive early to have enough time to explore nearby restaurants.

Only a few minute walk from ubahn and stuff downtown. Staff freindly. Bed was on the stiff side if you like that. Nice blackout curtains.

There was only the squeeze bottle of shampoo and conditioner next to the bathroom sink. I would have liked actual handsoap. It is an older hotel, but perfectly fine. The window was a little cold while sitting next to it (October).

The room was a good size. It was clean and neat. Location was central to everywhere we needed to go. The breakfast was outstanding. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Big shoutout to Roberto.

Only one thing , not enough coffee, milk and sugar in room.

Very good location of the hotel, near railway station. Hotel clean and very nice. Room was spacious. Breakfast was very good, with quite big choise of the things (you could even made waffle by yourself!).

Sauna could be open a little longer.
