Hôtel des Coutellier

I think this is the best hotel we’ve EVER stayed in. Great location just outside the wall within easy walking distance to some wonderful shops & restaurants. The property itself is lovely having a quaint ambience with well-appointed rooms & accessories such as very comfortable bed/bedding/robes. You can open the “antique” windows for fresh air. As we left in the AM to site-see, the staff asked for our room number & their staff immediately went to clean. We especially enjoyed having breakfast delivered to our door. It consisted of (2) juices, (2) French pastries apiece plus a revolving offering of yogurt or cheese each day. The staff gave recommendations for restraints to try; they were awesome! In general, we rarely remember a hotel once we check out. This one we will remember forever!

The location was excellent, walking distance with luggage from the train station and to all the places in the Old Town. It is a boutique hotel and whilst small offered everything I needed - breakfast was provided in my room each day, housekeeping, laundry service onsite (via Reception), free wifi. My room was lovely and quiet, comfortable bed, very nice bathroom. All the staff I dealt with were friendly and really helpful. Just loved it.

Absolutely nothing. Observation only. The hotel does not have a dining room and therefore doesn't offer dinner. However, there are so many good restaurants nearby I didn't find this a problem. There is a separate restaurant operating next to the hotel.

Quiet good-sized room with nice decor and very comfortable bed, Location is very convenient if travelling by train as it is 5 minutes-walk to the train station, The restaurant at the hotel, the Legend was excellent.

Breakfast was continental, left outside of the room and limited, we weren't aware of it at the time of booking, otherwise we would have booked the room only. The bathroom was small for the room, toiletries were not replenished and had to ask for a bath gel. No supply of drinking water, being asked to leave tips in the room with a credit card.

Really lovely hotel with all sorts of little, unexpected touches, such as an umbrella in the room. Very well located near restaurants, galleries, the old town and the trains station which is only minutes walk away. Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet.

Breakfast is provided, which is nice, in a cool bag to your room. Butt his means that there is usually much too much and so a lot probably gets wasted which seems a shame. The first day I was given lots of things I don't like eating (croissants, white bread) so after I said not to bother I was given a wonderful collection of brown bread, cheese, yogurt... but again, much more than I usually eat for breakfast!

The Hotel des Coutellier did everything right: clean, comfy beds, completely renovated bathroom (with towel dryer). Decor was unique, but not overly done. Location: the Rue St. Jean is right up the sharply inclined streets behind the hotel. BEST THING: Breakfast delivered to your room EVERY day (included in price). Croissants, of course, but some additional treat, bottles of orange juice, etc. Uniquely great service for that. Speaking of service, they called for our taxi to the airport (which would be 3 days latee) as soon as we walked in. Front desk people were ALWAYS helpful, and knew the area well.

I'm just not a boutique hotel person, so the room was small for me--but that's just me. Also, even though the carpet was nearly flat, I prefer wood or wood-look floors: something smooth. If this isn't a bother for you, you'll love this hotel.

The hotel is well maintained. Bathrooms have been updated and are very nice! We interacted with staff on each shift. They were all very friendly and helpful.

The parking for arriving guests is non-existent! Dropping off bags when checking in and loading up when leaving was so difficult we have to reconsider staying here in the future. The lighting in the rooms is horrible. The lamps have three-way sockets but only one-level CFL lamps. 3-way bulbs would be helpful.

Staff at the reception is very helpful. Always ready to assist. And the boy, and the girl as well, sorry not to remember their names. Good location near the Bus station to Montreal. Room is very nice , clean and the bathroom as well. Coffee machine in the room is a good decision. For dinner and lunch go to the old town, 15 - 20 minutes walk.

Breakfast is definitely below expectations. It is in the room only. Continental breakfast doesn't mean one old croissant ( the 3rd morning was fresh) , one piece of cake, one small bottle of orange juice and one mini pot of yogurt. I asked 3 times not to bring sweetened yogurt but this did not happen. I asked the sweetened yogurt to be replaced by a normal bottle of fresh milk, half a litter for example, no chance. One morning received 10 g of cheese instead of cake. I received two creamers of 5 ml each. That was the milk instead of yogurt. No fruit, no vegetable. Obviously the owner decided not to spend more than 2 dollars for the breakfast. It is better not to have a breakfast, there is a big supermarket on the same street, 10 minutes walk only, fresh food and a big choice.

Great location, about a 4 min walk to the main st in upper old Quebec and 15 min to the promenade governor/ chateau Frontenac. Staff were amazing, gave us a great dinner recommendation on the night we checked in. Comfy beds and extremely clean room. The included breakfast is a cute touch - croissants and a various other pastry, some cheese, applesauce, jam.

Due to Covid or the construction on the facade of the building (which did not disturb us at all, we didn’t even hear any noise in the morning before we went) they weren’t cleaning the rooms. If you wanted your towels replaced you place them in a bag and hang them on the door, which is fine! I just would have preferred coming back to a cleaned room and a bed that’s made after a long day of walking around the city.

I called ahead and ask that we get yogurt each morning in our breakfast. The breakfast was hanging outside our door every morning at 7am. Super nice.

The bathroom shower needed a repair because it got very screechy after the water ran for a short amount of time. It's an easy plumbing fix. The drawers under the beds needed to be dusted out.

This is an excellent small hotel in a great location - short flat walk from the train station, and easy access to the old town. The staff were first class, and the breakfast bags were a brilliant idea - plentiful continental breakfast to set you up for the day. Cafes and restaurants nearby. The linen and robes all high quality. All this for less than $200 CAD per night. Highly recommend.
