Awesome location, next to the market. Nice common space, nice enough hosts. A thoughtfully organized bed, with a shelf and light in the right places, all hostels should do it like that :) All in all, the lack of the personal touch is well compensated for by proper organization.

The coffee place inside is a bit weird (or maybe just the guy working that day). The process is slow and awkward, and then the coffee is bad. I'd totally preferred a vending machine to that - with those at least you know what you are in for. Otherwise everything was good.

I got a mixed experience with this stay, albeit I felt it was a niche stay and really affordable to help along your time in Hamburg which can be on the costly side. Also, a bit of an escape from the lively neighborhood it reside in. Very central and close to all transports you could need.

In my opinion and close to fact but the hostel has the most expressive cost to rent a towel I have ever seen. Five euros would get me a towel or two elsewhere, to keep not rent, but then I would need to bin it as I'll no where to store it. I do believe work is being done on the sustainability effort of the residence so perhaps this will be reviewed along side it.

The location is amazing, just some blocks away from the center and the main train station. We could walk everywhere. In the night gets really creepy and weird but I never felt unsafe, and we were 2 girls. Just don't mind the crazy people and keep walking (crazy people are everywhere) The rooms are big and clean everyday. We didnt have any problems of being dirty. We had our own bathroom, wich are super small and smells funny but for some days is okay. There is a general bathroom per floor so you can use that (is bigger). I love that there is a place to work and chill on the first floor. We had to catch a train really late, so we stayed there warm and safe, with internet. I really appreciate that. There is a small cafeteria in the lobby and a bar next door. That is nice if you just want to chill. The prices are really good for the average. You can pay extra and do a check late, which is amazing If you are leaving late. The pillows and sheet where really nice quality made. I loved it.

It didn't have curtains for privacy, we hang our towels to try to have some privacy specially in the night when people needs to turn on light to change. You can hear everything, specially drunk people. I don't care because I don't wake up easily but I saw people complaining. The area in the night, but this has nothing to do with the hotel. I didn't felt unsafe or in risk, i am used to see weird people but maybe for cottoncandy people this could be a reason to be scared..

I have stayed more than once in Generator Hamburg, as well as other Generator Hostels. You get what you paid for, apart from some small nuisances. Very central, friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms make it worth your while.

The bathroom and the toilet in the rooms are extremely small, leaving little to no space for moving inside. Sadly, this is an architectural issue and can’t be changed anymore. My biggest problem was, since they removed the key card locks of the main areas, I had an occurrence of a disturbed person, who was not a visitor at the hostel, come up to me and actually unnerve/scare me. Luckily they left without causing extreme problems.

Room of 8 perfect for an overnight stay. Comfortable bed, lockers big enough for my big travel bag or a small suitcase and a bag. Shower and toilet in each room. The shared bathroom on the landing (shower and toilet) was perfect for me because arriving late and leaving early, I didn't disturb the others in the room. The location is perfect, as it's right behind the main station. Would recommand even if the price is quite high for an hostel (60€/night, I usually pay 25-30 max in other cities).

The hostel was close to the centre, very good price. Very student friendly and affordable. Everything was clean, there were even boxes under the beds to store our things in - they could be locked with a standard lock. Everything was clean, there was even a bar to chill with friends (or friendly strangers) in the evening and in the morning there was breakfast being served at the same place. I would say that it is a good idea to pay for the breakfast as it was very affordable and you can choose from many different options. It is definitely cheaper than any coffee&breakfast place in the city. I liked the overall grunge look of the hostel, it had a very student-ish kind of vibe. It looked cool and not at all cliché.

We had a bathroom in the room and it was really small. It was literally as if someone was doing a challenge in the Sims to make it 1x2 blocks big. So it was hard to move and shower and brush our teeth in there.

breakfast options were good, but should start 6 am not 7 am. beds where comfortable, the location of the hostel was excellent and near the railway station. the room size was enough not too large or small.

waiting time for check-in was too high, the queues and process is not good. lockers have 1 hour or 6 hours, why not 2 or 4 hours in between option? why would someone use 1 hour option, rather they would stay with luggage for 1 hour. This is purely to make everyone chose default 6 hours which is not required for many of them who come 2 or 3 hours early check in or to check out. Toilets where smaller. Towels and soaps should have been included in the package, if not towels shower gels atleast.

Comfortable bed; effective locker; good light, shelf and power at bedhead; no fussing with linen; great easy-to-find location next to Bus Station; 24hr desk, coffee and cake; good healthy breakfast; shower and WC within the dorm room; good outdoor bike lockup (internal courtyard).

Miniscule shower and toilet (separate)... Think airplane size! There is a lot of 24hr street life outside. Noisy even at the 5th floor. Beggars, damaged folk, and loud guys hanging out. It feels a bit insecure when leaving at 3am but I didn't have an actual problem.

Great ensuite room, nice view, opening windows for fresh air, plenty of storage space, hot water, very clean. There's secure luggage lockers for early arrival and late check out is only 10 euros. Our Sunday night stay was very quiet considering it has hostel style rooms too. Literally next to the central station with U bahns and airport S bahn so perfect location. Area immediately outside hotel was quiet and we didn't see any of the usual activity that big stations attract and it was very safe. Very good value for money for such high standards. Staff were very helpful and friendly with a lot of local knowledge and insight. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

The rooms were spacious, but I wish the bathrooms were bigger inside the dorm room. The location was excellent. The staff were helpful and accommodating.

There weren’t any bath mats for the shower and the curtain was in need of replacement. The bathroom was too small to move around. My reservation was canceled due to a miscommunication. I thought the staff could change my reservation given my travel delays but I was not told I had to. It was resolved without any issues but I had to pay again for a new reservation even though someone from the hostel staff knew I’d come a day late.
