Villa Florentine

The hotel is quite exceptional! The views over Lyon, everything about the hotel and staff who were really obliging and helpful made our short stay so enjoyable. It is difficult to imagine anything else we could have wanted to improve our stay.

We didn’t eat in the restaurant as we felt it was lacking in ambiance and we wanted to experience ‘old Lyon’. A bar space indoors could be in a more central area. The bar on the terrace was perfect for an afternoon/ evening drink but is obviously dependant on the weather.

The hotel & rooms were very clean, the staff were very accommodating. The pool was well positioned with wonderful views across the city. The hotel itself was very, very nice. Well located just above the old town of Lyon so ideal to explore this part of the city, which is the best part of Lyon by far.

The pool surface needed a fresh lick of paint The restaurant was not open on the Sunday and Monday night that we stayed which was a little disappointing. The room style/design appeared a little dated, though this could be a French period they are purposely trying to achieve in reflection of the rest of the hotel (see photos). A point to note is it is above the old town on a hill, so expect to walk up a few stairs if you are not in a taxi.

It is so lovely, comfortable and has amazing views of the town. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive and will help you with whatever you need. It is very relaxing with balcony areas, outdoor seating and the pool and spa. The breakfast was not included but has a really good breakfast if you choose to have this. There is an on site restaurant which you should book ahead for. It is a short walk to other restaurants and shops. highly recommend

if you are traveling by metro and walking with your luggage, be prepared to walk up lots of stairs as it is based high up on the hill - recommend walking up the ones to the right side of the property, the left side steps are very steep! you can get there more easily via bus to walk up the road or via taxi to the hotel door

Above all, we liked the service. The staff was courteous and always ready to help. The best service ever! In addition, with respect to our suite, we liked the spaciousness of the room, the style, the cleanliness, the balcony and the view from the balcony.

What was really surprising and disappointing was that there were only 3 or 4 electrical outlets in the whole suite and none of them next to the bed. This gave us trouble in terms of charging our phones, computers and iPads. The staff did bring an extension cord with multiple outlets, but I expect better from a 5-star hotel.

The Room view is amazing. The food in the restaurant is an amazing experience. And the breakfast is superb. The Staff are very very friendly and very very helpful. A unique experience.

The wooden floors make a lot of noise. It's impossible to go to the bathroom at night without waking the spouse up. And you can hear the noise from other rooms. The toilet is separate from the bathroom and is too small, and a bit smelly. But then again it's a very old property. There are bound to be such things.

We booked a junior suite for six nights for our wedding anniversary and, given the relatively high cost, the hotel rating and the reviews for the hotel, were expecting a very good experience. However our expectations were exceeded. Villa Florentine is an 'old fashioned' five star hotel (and I mean that in a very positive sense) in that it relies on excellent service executed by superbly well trained, friendly and professional staff alongside it's superb location and very good but not outstanding facilities Obvious throughout our stay is that company culture plays a significant part in delivering this experience and we have stayed in several so called 'five star hotels, that although good, did not stand comparison with Villa Florentine. We cannot rate our experience highly enough,

Outstanding boutique hotel in prime location. Exactly as one would expect from Relais & Châteaux chain. Very historical place with great view over the city. Professional and friendly staff, thank you! Very clean and quiet. Good breakfast, you can seat outside and inside. Very good restaurant for dinner, booking is essential. Valet parking in hotel’s private garage. Try to book a room with a terrace - it will worth every penny.

Wonderful location, and hotel generally, once you get there! Staff are super helpful and the top floor swimming pool / bar area was great.

If you don't have your own car make sure you take a taxi. At the train station the first taxi refused to go there (no idea why) and told us to take the tube - shocker, since it's a hugely long and uphill walk if you do that. Even if you take the funicular it's still quite a hike. So just make sure you get there by car!

What to say - a stunning loaction for a 5 star hotel situated in a former monastry with an overviewing city look of Lyon. Great Breakfast, well trained, friendly and foremost anticipating staff. Nice Pool & Jacuzzi with a great view to Lyon.

If there is something to mention ....and that goes to a very personal taste - I would recommend to have either or design or antique furnitures for the rooms. It would fit better and would support the overall charme of this location as these very traditional furnitures.....but as I wrote...this is a very sujective view and my personal matter of taste.

The property on the whole was pleasant - it needs updating as is stuck in the 70s

The showers in both our rooms were dangerous The step in is too high the shower trays very slippery, nothing to hold on to to get in and out. The glass Shower doors are dangerous. The water went from freezing to boiling without touching the control and is not safe. The hotel is nice but it needs moderization
