Holiday Inn - Johannesburg Sunnyside Park, an IHG Hotel

Staff was warm and very helpful. Food was very tasty and we got treated to a sumptuous Christmas breakfast on the 25th December. We also enjoyed the spacious well equipped gym.

Was disappointed by the initial room I was checked into whose door couldn't lock and the aircon malfunctioned!, over and above that there was cold water in the shower in the second room we were transferred to until the anomaly was fixed. There is need for an extractor fan in the bathrooms to deal with bad smells after toilet usage especially after doing a #2.

The receptionist Millian was very helpful. She provided me with all the information and went our of her way to make me feel welcome and at home. Nkosi - waiter was very welcoming and was available for any enquiries pertaining to the restraunt. I felt at home.

The food. The options were very few on the ale cate menu and no offense but most dishes were made to appease local taste. Maybe add international cuisine or neutral recipe for outsiders .

The staff were all so welcoming on our arrival and we appreciated the assistance with getting our luggage to our room. The breakfast buffet was amazing with everything you could want. The gardens were well kept and we loved having access to the gym. The room service ensured we had sufficient towels and bath mats which is always so important. We also loved the daily complimentary waters. I also enjoyed the improvement in the food since our previous visit in 2017.

The Aircon didn't work as well as it should have but the rooms were comfortable and we felt safe. The shower needs a little Mildew spray and it did leak but otherwise the pressure was good and perfect after a long day. We also missed having the pub open but enjoyed a quiet drink in the lounge

I have been coming to this property almost annually for 53 years ( since 1970) I don’t know how many iterations of management I have been through…buts it’s my place to stay in Johannesburg for years.

Typically under all managements, my longevity has been awarded with a complimentary upgrade from a “standard” room. Not this time. I was offered the upgrade at additional cost. During the six nights I was there, the occupancy of this entire property could not have been more than ten rooms, if that. Would it have been such a big deal to recognize a truly loyal customer? Seems like the new management have lost their “touch”……pity…… I am a lifetime Marriott Platinum and my loyalty is always rewarded. Do I need to switch from IHG next time

Once you enter the property, you already feel a sense of safety around you and forget that you are in Johannesburg and just a minute away from Berea and Hillbrow. I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and always feel at home at this property. The host always goes out of his way to make me feel like a valued guest.

When booking online, the booking does not always pull through to the Hotel in real time. I always experience difficulty with reception locating my online bookings, sometimes to the extent were the booking has to be made over the counter, loosening out on the special deal prices offered online.

High standards are maintained akin to a 4 star hotel. The room was spacious, well lit and had a small fridge which is a necessity for long-term guests. Complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water was provided. I used to buy additional coffee and water and it was safe to store juice and other perishables in the fridge. The TV was large and had many channels. I enjoyed watching news on BBC and CNN.

The staff is absolutely incredible! Everyone is very helpful, friendly and nice. I never experienced such accommodating staff before. Everyone greets you with a smile, and absolutely everyone wants to help you. I was very impressed by that. We were able to arrange a taxi driver to one of the museums and it was very simple and easy to arrange. The driver was also a sweetheart and I loved learning more about him during the drive. The price was also alright. For breakfast, you have plenty of options available, even alternative milks and a chef who prepares your eggs how you like them. We also enjoyed the restaurant option there.

Wifi is ok, but not great. I hoped it would be a bit better considering you are in the city. The beds are a bit hard, and I didn't have the most comfortable sleep. Our aircon also didn't work, so it got quite warm in the room. We opened some windows but it was windy and we heard the fountain outside. The hotel is very close to Hillbrow and Yeoville which are said to be poor areas. And indeed, driving through wasn't as pleasant, so if you are a self-driver, I would try to drive around those areas.

The room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was out of this world. The dinner menu was limited due to our kind of booking but Chef Willy and Chef Benny outdid themselves and the meals were enough. Nkosinathi and Vice were the best restaurant hosts. They even offered us room service so conveniently. Mom Sbongile was just as awesome at breakfast. She attended so well to the kids as well... The hotel has nice books and colouring activities for kids.

The surrounding was not very clean. I guess it was because they were short staffed due to the festive season...

Rooms where clean and always smelling nice ..... Bathrooms where sparkling everytime it was cleaned .... was thrilled it had a bar fridge , atleast we where able to store our drinks etc in it where as other hotels don't really have one on the rooms. Staff where amazing , from the ladies in the reception to the aunties cleaning to the guys maintaining the garden even the security where over friendly. Things like this makes one's stay awesome and makes you feel right at home where you just want to keep coming back which we definitely will!!!

I personally feel slight maintenance can take place eg.. the changing of room and bathroom doors. Those are the only finishing touches I would recommend, but other than that there's nothing not to like

The hotel reception is amazing and so charming with the chandeliers and Royal furniture. Rooms are more modern and comfortable. We ate at Milners restaurant for dinner. Food and service was good. Breakfast was exceptional.

The aircons were working during the day. Then around 21h00 our group was back at our rooms and couldn't get the aircon on. Reception informed us that something had tripped and maintenance can only see to the problem in the morning. She did offer to move us to another room on a different floor, but we preferred to stay in our room with no aircon. It was quite hot and uncomfortable to sleep in summer with no aircon.
