Holiday Inn Johannesburg-Rosebank, an IHG Hotel

Staff was awesome, helpful and accommodating. Daily breakfast was good - lots of variety. Location was very good- close to restaurants and shops.

Air conditioning was suspect - did it really exist? Fridge was not useful in getting things cold or even cool. Our shower flooded the bathroom and carpet when we first arrived and no one came to fix it until we asked a second time. Drain was plugged.

The location is fantastic. The red bus office is right downstairs and the bus itself leaves right out the front. Train and other public transport are also immediately adjacent. Very comfortable. The staff were almost entirely extraordinarily wonderful. The manager is likely the most helpful, welcoming, kind, professional hands on manager I have ever come across in a large hotel. With so many guests to care for he still makes each one feel like he is there for them. Very rare in a big chain hotel, and greatly appreciated. The rest of the staff also were mostly amazing, from desk staff to restaurant staff, bar staff, cleaners, and everyone; all are excellent at making you feel welcome and at home. Again this is rare in a big hotel. There was just one staff member, at the desk, who was quite spectacularly, bewilderingly rude, I'd almost say aggressive. I gather I upset her somehow, I don't know how, but I gather there was some misunderstandingthat hot us off on the wrong foot , and subsequently every time I engaged with her her dislike of me was palpable which was a real pity. The rooms are very comfortable.

Only the bewildering experiences with one staff member described above. Otherwise everything was awesome.

Very well located hotel, right next to the Rosebank mall. Like to having Netflix and other streaming packages in the room. Room very comfortable and clean. Restaurant was fine… Nothing special.

Not the hotels fault, but it’s important that travellers are aware of how much crime there is in the Rosebank area and tourists are specifically targeted. When I asked reception about safety outside, they told me not to go outside except to the mall. That’s pretty dramatic.

Nice hotel with efficient checkin. Staff went out of their way to help - booking transfer, leaving luggage etc. Nice to have a choice of pillows from soft or firm and the bed was really comfortable. Great location as it abuts a shopping centre with lots of places to go to dinner and also get some snacks from the supermarket.

When the heating was on it smelt a bit of cigarette smoke. Not sure if this was because there were some smoking rooms in the building and the air was being recirculate or if it just needed a clean.

I did not have breakfast at the hotel

There was confusion on the availability of standard rooms with double beds. When I first called I was told there are only standard rooms with single beds left and when I suggested I book on Booking.com which was showing availability the lady I was talking to insisted I was not going to get a standard room with a double bed even if I was going to book through booking.com. I went on to book anyway and when I got to the hotel I got a room with a double bed as per my booking with booking.com. I almost decided on booking in another hotel on basis of what the woman at reservations was saying

Location was perfect, everything else was amazing accept for your front desk people.

The Gentleman that was on Duty on New years eve was actually rude like a MORON. He had no ways of talking and shouted at me to tell me how to use the card in the lift. My wife was actually shocked and was witness to his uncouth behavior being at the front desk. Thank God my wife calmed me and took me away. You are more than welcome to contact her should you require proof and go back to your cameras. it was after 1am.aq

This hotel was very affordable, and more importantly, you are central to everything (i.e. shops, restaurants, and ATM's). I would highly recommend this hotel because it is in a very safe neighborhood around Johannesburg. If you enjoy a lively area, definitely come here because it has just that. With several security personnel, you can explore confidently. Next, the staff and their services are friendly and willing to help you to make sure your stay here is comfortable. If you have questions in regards to something you want to do or need, they will make good suggestions to lead you in the right direction. Overall, I would definitely book this hotel if you are going to be in Johannesburg.

One big thing that I did not like is how the rooms are setup. The room that I had a little awkward setup. The bathroom was small and the layout was a little inconvenient for the guest, at least the room that I had. The other inconvenience was where the light switches were in one spot to control the whole room, which was by the entrance of the room. The last thing, I would have reconsidered was booking the dinner service. Dinner was not the best, but I would say it was average. I would go elsewhere because the variety of choices was limited and the same daily. Though fairly reasonable on the pricing, the food quality was average.

The Hotel staff was were very kind and attentive. They upgraded me to a suite! I loved my beautiful room & my view was awesome! The Hotel is convenient located right next to 3 shopping centers; The Zone@Rosebank, The Firs & The Rosebank Mall. The hotel elevator opened straight into the The Zone of Rosebank shopping center which offered an array of of restaurants, shops, department stores and more! I did not have to cross a single road & felt save. Rosebank has such a fantastic vibe & travelers will be delighted to know that The Gautrain station entrance is also located a few meters outside the hotel entrance.

The hotel is right next to the mall, which was extremely convenient as there are many shops and restaurants. The hotel is also a stopping point for the Hop On Hop Off bus, so it is well suited for tourists. Also, the woman at reception and the manager worked very hard to allow me to check in early as I was quite tired from my flight. It was wonderful to be able to have the room a little earlier than expected. The housekeeper also helped with me with my room key multiple times when I was having difficulty getting into the room (my fault).

Excellent location. Easily accessible to train, tourist bus, Uber rides. Walkable to the Rosebank mall area. Great breakfast. Comfortable rooms and space. Felt secure. Friendly and helpful staff — allowed strange check-in/checkout times based on middle of the night flights.

Upon arrival, the room was not as clean as I would have expected. Dust everywhere and cups and spoons were quite dirty. The phone didn’t work properly, i.e. when I tried to reach the front desk it never went through to get an answer. Limited TV options. No microwave for reheating food.
