Thon Hotel Opera

Great location so close to the area with the Opera House and Munch Museum etc. Also close to the subway for getting to the old town and other locations. I also selected the hotel due to its proximity to the Oslo Central Railway station, but unfortunatly the major rain event stopped me from travelling to a friend in East Norway and also from taking the Oslo-Bergen railway... but it would be a great location for catching trains if they had been running! I also enjoyed both the selection of options at the breakfast buffet, and the food and ambience at the Level 1 restaurant and bar.

It was all good.

We arrived and departed Oslo using the airport train. The hotel is quite literally 50m from the Central Station. We were allocated a room on the top (10th) floor with a small veranda and great city and harbour views. The room was recently renovated, spotlessly clean and looked beautiful. Breakfast was included in the tariff and was excellent with a wide range of choice of cereals, fresh fruit salad, hot dishes and pastries. All staff were polite and efficient.

The bathroom in our room was tired with cracked tiles and some grout missing. The floor waste leaked water onto the floor suggesting the waste water drain was partially blocked. The shower was located over the bath and water leaked under the shower screen. This arrangement is very hazardous for older people. Btw, I’m from Australia, not HongKong as appears in the review.

Can't beat the location if you are using the station. Overnight stay between connecting flights so proximity to the station was important to me. So easy to find- exit the station to the south and it is right there. Plus easy to see key sites like the Opera house. Breakfast was great quality but then again, I found great breakfasts at all five of the places I stayed at during my Norway trip so I think the food standards in Norway are universally exceptional!

Of course being close to the station it was a little noisy but not really a problem- noise was certainly low enough for uninterrupted sleep. Except for an errant fire alarm during my stay which was a bit weird! Travelers to Norway should note that it seemed to be a rarity to find shampoo and conditioner in hotels in Norway so should bring their own. This is likely to be for ecological reasons as all the soaps are from dispensers too (to reduce waste).

Hotel location is excellent - within easy walking to museums, shops, restaurants, the harbor and the central transport hub. The room for single occupancy is small, but functional. Breakfast buffet was the best I've ever had. High quality food.

I could not open the window at night as the room overlooked a busy parking garage, car rental hub and tour bus garage. A lot of loud engine sounds and horn honking. Noise was tolerable with the window closed, but I was at the hotel on a very warm day.

Location is great, in the city centre next to the main train station (no problems with noise). Lots of attractions within walking distance, wide choice of restaurants nearby and a supermarket within the train station. Beds and shower are good and it was nice that there were also 2 comfortable chairs in the room. Breakfast is fantastic: lots of choice and friendly staff.

Lack of a view, we looked out on a building a few metres from our window. Room was small, as expected, but complete.

Thon Opera is in a very convenient location close to public transport, city sights, etc. The hotel is beautiful, the staff professional, and the rooms attractive and well-appointed. A personal portable fan helped with stuffiness in the room.

The rooms were small but well-appointed. The beds were adequate but a tad too firm, and the pillows were a bit firm for my personal liking. I am used to air-conditioning, so the room tended to be stuffy, and the window opened to an untidy alley-like square between buildings, so I opted to keep the windows closed.

Clean hotel. No bad smells. Staff was verry helpful. The breakfest buffe was amazing. Alot of good food and nice view to start a good day. Location perfect. Cab is always available.

Bed was not so comfy and small. Am not a short man. The worst thing was that the pillow always fell down between the mattress and the wall, and the mattress moved downward to so I had to pull it up. I did not get good quality sleep. The fridge did not keep the beverage as cold as I like it.

This hotel has the best ever breakfast. You can find there everything: Full English breakfast, Italian sweet breakfast but above all Nordic fish, fantastic selection of knackebrod, and Nespresso coffee. The rooms are standard but in very good shape, enough places to put your clothes. And it is excellently located when you need to travel with heavy stuff further.

The bathroom is a bit plain style if whole hotel is in Opera style but it is matter of taste.

Beautiful hotel. Literally right beside the train station and opera house. Great breakfast buffet. Room was nicely decorated and clean.

The shower wasn't great. Small TV for the size of the room, not a big deal but it was small. Not many extras in room but maybe my expectations were too high after my stay in the thon orion hotel in bergen. Nuts and a bottle of wine missing from the mini bar on my arrival and housekeeping put it as a charge on my room. Luckily reception accepted that they hadn't been there.

The breakfast is exceptional! It is world-class, with excellent service. The hotel is next to the Oslo train station, which is convenient for getting to and where you want to go. We had to catch a morning train to the airport; the receptionist suggested we grab some food before we got on the train. We went to the breakfast area, and the staff there helped us pack the to-go breakfast after they realized we were hurrying. They were so kind and helpful. If we ever go to Oslo again, we will stay there!
