Best Western Premier Grand Monarque Hotel & Spa

The hotel is located in the center of Chartres just a short hop from the Cathedral and the City Center. The Staff is very nice and helpful. The make you feel that you matter to them. The room and bath room are very spacious, and equipped with everything necessary. Bedding is comfortable with a good mattress and a large choice of pillows. The buffet breakfast (19 euros) is outstanding with a large variety of food. I had dinner at La Cour restaurant (reserve with time if you want to have dinner at a decent time). I had a soup, a large salad and mineral water for about 30 euros. Everything was rather good. Private parking costs 10 euros a night.

Spa management needs to control some users and enforce their rules. There was so much talking in the Hammam and the sauna that it sounded like a regular café and was not at all relaxing! We mentioned this to the staff on leaving but they didn't appear to be concerned, just resigned to it. We felt more stressed after this spa experience than before. The physical facilities are good but from our experience we don't recommend spa time during the weekend if you want to truly relax.

The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. Dinner was superb and we enjoyed sitting outside with a drink from the bar prior to our meal. The room was comfortable with an excellent ensuite. The cathedral is a short walk away.

Whilst we were aware that there was not a hotel car park (although we did spot a small one round the back), more emphasis and detail regarding public car parks would be good - there seemed to be an underground one very close by but we missed it as we weren't looking for it. We managed to find a free spot in the street fairly nearby but - as with other French parking meters in my experience - I found the meter confusing (I used the receipt as a parking ticket - or perhaps it was the ticket???).

Very beautiful furnishings and ambience. Spacious room and bathroom. Comfortable bed and plush linens. Staff very friendly. Good location right in the center of town. The welcome muffins in the room were yummy. You get slippers, robes, and large bath towels.

Air con was loud. The parking situation is confusing. Call ahead to see if the private parking is available. If it is full, you will need to park either on the street or in underground parking. The paint seemed to be peeling in the bathroom in otherwise an otherwise pristine room.

This was a well appointed hotel with everything you could wish for, including a superb Michelin Star restaurant which, as we discovered, was excellent.

The room was a bit smaller than usual, but okay. Motorcycle parking was, we felt, inadequate, as the usual one was full. Having two expensive bikes we weren't too happy leaving them on the street - CCTV, or not. However they were fine. Maybe that's a British issue! On a street in the UK, you know your bike would be gone in the morning.

Nice hotel in the centre of the town, at walking distance from the renown cathedral. Hosted in an elegant setting, the room fulfils the expectations for this kind of accommodation. The most remarkable room feature was an old-fashioned (but perfectly functioning) bath tube. The breakfast includes a large variety of good-quality options. A dinner at the nearby one Michelin star "Georges" restaurant is highly recommended. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient.

Nothing special.

The service was impeccable. All the staff were extremely attentive to our needs and really felt like a 5 star stay. The location was excellent right in the heart of Chartes.

We paid for an upgraded room but felt like a basic double. I'm not sure what the difference was for the upgrade, maybe the size. The room was still lovely though. We had to pay in the underground car park which was an extra cost although conveniently opposite the hotel and felt very secure.

Because the air conditioning didn't work in the room we were initially given, we were shown to another which was equally if not more beautiful. Loved the way the roof beams became a real feature. Reception staff were lovely and really helpful. We had a drink in the bar but it took quite a long time to attract anyone's attention to get served despite staff passing to and fro.

The bed was too close to one of the beams and would have been dangerous to get up at night so we moved the bed.

All the staff were outstandingly helpful and tried hard to make our stay as good as possible. My wife is disabled and there was an easy access through the spa and by a lift to the main part of the hotel. We stayed in the old part of the hotel which had large elegant rooms which were a real luxury. Need to book a table at the restaurant well before you arrive as it gets very full. Good selection of food and wine ad exemplary service from the waiters. We booked car parking which is done for you a few hundred metres down a side road. Our hybrid car was recharged because a charging point was free and done on the initiative of one of the staff. Hotel well placed on the main city square. A lovely ,elegant place to stay with faultless service.

Very attractive bar opening onto the main square but is busy. Getting served is a major challenge.

Ideally placed for exploring Chartres on foot. Comfortable accommodation, very good food and exceptionally helpful staff.

Belle Epoch furnishings perfectly match the original building. However, there were no laptops, tablets and mobile phones in that era. Consequently, recharging modern technology was not at all easy: - No USB points; power points were few and close to floor level. One hopes that, as rooms are refurbished, these facilities will be improved.
