There’s certainly no shortage of luxury resort hotels in Las Vegas if you really want to live it up, but it isn’t necessary to spend a huge chunk of your vacation money for a room that you won’t be spending much time in. In fact, cheap Las Vegas hotels on the Strip or close by can be had at prices that won’t break the bank.
Whether you are planning ahead or seeking a last minute hotel deal in Las Vegas, with the exception of peak dates which include city-wide conventions, holiday weekends, or major sporting events great deals can be found where you least expect them.
Save Money on Your Las Vegas Hotel Accommodations
Most of us would agree that staying in a luxurious room with a spectacular view of the Strip would be amazing, but honestly, how much time do you expect to be in your room while visiting Las Vegas? Not much, I can assure you if you’ve never been here before. It’s also exciting to have a massive casino, showroom, expansive tropical pool, and a dozen or more stunning restaurants just an elevator ride away.
But why pay for upscale amenities that you won’t be using? Choosing a cheaper Las Vegas hotel that is within easy walking distance of the many Strip upscale properties is one of the best ways to save money. You can still play in the casinos, dine in the restaurants, and enjoy music in the various clubs that are nearby, while your often empty hotel room isn’t draining your bank account.
It's also easy to travel along the Strip via the affordable Las Vegas Monorail which makes multiple stops just east of the main drag from the MGM/New York-New York/Excalibur on the south up to the Sahara/STRAT stop which is the northern terminus. Single ride and multi-day passes are available.

Less than two blocks from the Las Vegas Strip, 284 all-suite property provides a much needed escape from the city’s 24-hour energy. Enjoy modern units with a fully equipped kitchen with full-size appliances, and a balcony that overlooks lush gardens, and an outdoor pool and whirlpool with towering palm trees. Close to the airport without having to fight the frequent traffic jams, Desert Rose now features Ellington’s Bar & Grill, a fitness center, barbecue’s for grilling your personal favorites, a convenience store, and free parking. NO RESORT FEES AND NO CASINO, but the OYO Hotel & Casino and the MGM Grand are both a few steps away.
Despite the current $54.95 daily resort fee which includes parking (self and valet), health club and pool admission (seasonal), and in-house perks, the SAHARA is one of the cheapest large resorts on the Strip. The three-tower, 1,600-room property offers an exciting casino, nice dining options, and lounge entertainment, is within walking distance of the STRAT Tower and Circus Circus on the northern stretch of the Strip. The Las Vegas Monorail terminates here, so traveling to the mega-resorts nearby is quick and relaxing.
With its 1,149-foot observation tower as the focal point of the property, the STRAT opened in 1979 as The Stratosphere. As the second tallest observation tower in the Western Hemisphere after Toronto’s CN Tower, guests and visitors obtain incredible views of Las Vegas and the surrounding landscape. The 24-story hotel tower has 2,427 remodeled rooms that are often some of the cheapest available on the Strip. The STRAT is a great place to seek last minute deals. In spite of the $49.95 daily resort fee, rooms can still be had for less than $100. There are several restaurants, a show lounge, an energetic casino, Atomic Golf, a fitness facility, plus a sports book. When guests want to explore elsewhere, the SAHARA and northern terminus of the Las Vegas Monorail are a short walk away. GREAT CHOICE FOR LAST MINUTE HOTEL DEALS.
The 28-story, 3,981-room Excalibur has long been one of the cheapest full-fledged resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Popular for its medieval castle theme, the hotel is located at the bustling intersection of Las Vegas Blvd. S. and Tropicana Avenue, within minutes on foot of New York-New York, the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, and T-Mobile Arena, home of the NHL’s Golden Knights. The $45 daily resort fee shouldn’t keep you from considering Excalibur for your stay as the hotel’s room rates are among the cheapest in the neighborhood. Last-minute hotel deals during shoulder and low season can be $20 or less. The expansive casino and more than a dozen restaurants make this an extremely popular moderate hotel in a superb location.
Less than a half mile east of the Strip and close to Planet Hollywood and the MGM, the Club Wyndham Grand Desert is an ideal oasis for those who want to partake in all that Las Vegas has to offer as a couple, or with the kids traveling along. There’s even a Kid’s Club for them to enjoy. And best of all, there are NO RESORT FEES! Resort amenities include free parking, three pools, a sun deck, restaurant, and each spacious unit includes one or two bedrooms or larger, and a kitchenette with full-sized appliances. And if it’s privacy that you are craving, there are two areas of the property designated as adults-only.
7. Circus Circus Hotel, Casino & Theme Park

For more than half a century Circus Circus has been known for cheap room rates and endless fun under the Big Top. The 3,767 rooms range from motor lodge units behind the 15, 29, and 34-story towers, and the hotel even has an RV park on-site. With six restaurants, a kid’s arcade, and a 123,000-square-foot casino, you won’t have far to go when seeking excitement. Located on the northern third of the Strip, the SAHARA, Resorts World, and Encore-Wynn hotels with all of their incredible amenities are within a few minutes’ walk of Circus Circus. The $30 (tax inclusive) resort fee is one of the lowest in town, and when combined with the hotel’s historically affordable room rates, you’ll have plenty of money left to enjoy yourself. The long popular 4 Queens in the heart of downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street has a loyal clientele who love the location, friendliness, and comfortable accommodation that is consistent with every visit. Featuring great dining, lounge entertainment, an energetic casino, and the Fremont Street Experience just outside the front door, visitors who prefer the lights and energy of downtown to the Strip have been coming here for nearly 60 years. With 690 refreshed rooms in two towers, stay here and you’ll have all of downtown’s casinos, entertainment, and dining within minutes of stepping outside.
With 716 suites of many sizes, there’s a comfortable one awaiting your arrival. Just over one mile east of the Strip on Flamingo Road, Tuscany Suites offers very affordable and comfortable accommodation with plenty of amenities. There are four dining choices on-site including a pub with craft brews, a relaxing pool and spa, casino, sports book, and nightly entertainment. The $47.62 daily resort fee combined with cheaper than average room rates makes for a great property with lots to appreciate. Tuscany Suites is great for a family getaway, or upgrade to a luxurious executive suite for a more intimate getaway.
Featuring an 83,000-square-foot casino, 576 rooms including a 21-story tower, and a slightly off the beaten path location, Palace Station will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. Its’ combination of local popularity and cheap rates over the years has made this hotel, located at Sahara and I-15, a repeat destination for vacationers for many reasons. While there is a $45.34 (tax inclusive) daily resort fee, the hotel’s rates are low enough to make the Palace Station a very affordable option throughout the year. There are several dining options, an attractive outdoor pool area, free parking, and a bingo hall adjacent to the bustling casino.
With few exceptions, Las Vegas is a city of resort fees, which can be irritating and expensive. In addition to NO RESORT FEE hotels indicated above, there are other properties that fit into this category. When deciding where to stay during your Las Vegas visit, if resort fees are something you want to avoid if at all possible, do also take a look a the downtown Fremont Hotel & Casino, Hotel Jefe, the Wyndham Desert Blue, and the substantial number of major chain hotels that are available here.
Many of the “normal size” properties (those that don’t have thousands of rooms) that are part of the Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Best Western etc., chains offer reasonable prices without resort fees. However, these hotels are usually located away from the Strip, requiring a rental car or the use of Uber/Lyft to get around in most cases.
Are You Planning a Last-Minute Visit to Las Vegas?
With more than 164,000 hotel rooms in the Las Vegas area, the destination is a great one to consider if you’re on a limited budget and have some unexpected time off to escape for a few days.
But with limited or no time to plan, how do you decide where to stay on short notice? Well, it all depends on your timing, but keep these things in mind:
- Weekends are peak days, with the most popular visits being from Thursday to Sunday, with Friday to Monday also being in demand.
- Midweek stays, Sunday to Thursday and Monday to Friday are going to be where the cheapest room rates will be found.
- There are exceptions during historically slow travel seasons, but most Strip hotels, and when business is strong, downtown hotels, too, do not accept Saturday arrivals. So, plan accordingly when you can.
- Las Vegas will be full or have very few rooms available at extraordinarily high rates at certain times of year including the Bitcoin Las Vegas convention, JCK Las Vegas, SMX World Championship Final, Reggae Rise Up Vegas, When We Were Young, Las Vegas HBCU Classic, and the Neon City Festival. Steer clear of these events to find the best last minute deals.
- The city is also packed when the Las Vegas Raiders play their NFL home games, so pricing will be elevated during those approximately nine weekends. With the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights playing 41 home games at T-Mobile Center plus a couple of exhibition games and potential playoff series in the spring, room prices are not impacted quite as much. The arena is situated at Flamingo Road and I-15 behind Caesars Palace, so the hotels in close proximity will be the busiest when the Knights are playing.
- In a nutshell, the cheapest room rates will be found during the summer, midweek, and during the usual down times after New Years to late January, May before Memorial Day, and between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
