First Group The Palace All-Suite

I had a 10th floor apartment booked out, the views was simple amazing. I throughly enjoyed my stay …everything was on point, from the breakfast to the cocktails, to the swimming pool, spa centre …it was just an amazing experience and one I needed badly.

The 10am check out. I really believe it’s way too early. A 12noon checkout would have been more appropriate as standard procedure. Other than this little hindrance, everything was spot on, I honestly can’t fault anything.

I like the location

I was booked for 7 days with breakfast. However I could not partake of the breakfast because it was not HALAAL. When I requested a refund on my breakfast , I was totally refused. If it was buffet breakfast then at least I could choose what to eat and what not to eat. Unfortunately it was a-lacarte. In future I will not book my holidays with booking.com

The kitchen had everything we needed, the living room was our favourite The breez from the sea was fantastic. The food from pesto restaurant was great their breakfast was yummy.

The Aircon in our bedroom was not working the first night we could not sleep at all due to heat. But the next day they gave us a Fan that helped a lot.

I liked the fact that hand sanitizer was made available at the entrance.

It would be appreciated if the facility could enforce more strongly that staff and guests wear face masks in the public areas of the hotel. Breakfast included was the only option which means we paid for breakfast, but there was no provision for Muslim guests so we had to buy breakfast outside. Very sad.

The spa treatment was absolutely great. It was amazing that it's just in the building. The restaurant downstairs and the fact that they offered room service was very convenient...we also liked that theu opened the door between our rooms so that we and the kids could feel like we were just in one house....

The noise of the Aircon next door made it difficult to sleep at night The cleaning stuff schedule was VERY inconveniencing. At some point our room wasn't cleaned and we were told the cleaners' time was up and she had to go. The couch in the living room needs to be changed.

The highlight for me was the very friendly and helpful staff, Nokholiwe ( I think is her name) and Palesa were exceptional in their service. as a Deaf person, they ensured that i received all the assistance i required, sharing with me their cell numbers so i could reach them via WhatsApp since i would not have been able to use the in-room telephone. this assisted immensely for me to gain access to services and most especially to ensure my safety as opposed to the usual practice of leaving my door ajar when i order room service for example, they communicated via WhatsApp with me to inform me when the waiter was coming up. this was awesome and i am thankful for this type of service. in addition, they would WhatsApp me in the morning and evening just to check if everything was still okay with me and my stay. talk about excellent service. these ladies were exceptional.

there was a funny smoke like smell in the bathroom as if someone had been smoking in there but i know the rooms are non-smoking rooms. the smell was there for the duration of my stay, so it is probably something else and not cigarette. worth it for you to check it out.

The location, the sea view as well as the cleanliness of the apartment. I really appreciate the effort of the reception lady named Nokwazi/Nolwazi we spoke to on the Sunday around 16h00, when we checked in. She went out of her way to accommodate us when we indicated that we were not happy with the size of our initial room. She went out of her and secured an apartment which was more of our own home as the booking was for 6 days. Myself and my wife, we say thank to her, she must keep up the good work.

Great staff. They are all friendly, attentive and go out of their way to assist you. The facilities and the location are great and it's a very enjoyable experience to stay there, as usual (we've stayed there many times before). The views are awesome and the jacuzzi in the spa is a highlight. The swimming pool is also lovely to swim in and to lounge and relax next to.

The menu of the restaurant is a bit limited, especially for someone like me who has GERD and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The Wi-Fi connection was very poor during our stay. The bed was also sagging a bit and not firm enough for me, which matters quite a lot, since I have neck, back and hip orthopaedic problems.

The hotel is excellent. A+ facilities, location, clean rooms, etc. I really love this hotel and I always stay in it when in Durban

In the morning they call your room to offer free breakfast voucher. That is disguised marketing. Before they give you the voucher they will market some loyalty points program with a lot of energy, asking you to join and pay some ridiculous sums of money for the program. They should find a different, less intrusive and more transparent way to do their marketing. Too early in the morning for some of us to be dealing with direct marketing and the marketers are too energetic for some of us who don't like to interact much in the morning. Also, when calling the guest to offer breakfast vouchers in the morning they should also disclose that they will do marketing before handing out the voucher. With that said, guests should decline the free breakfast voucher if they can because, wow.

It is right by the ocean, and my apartment was facing the ocean. I would always wake up with the sun in my bedroom. It was a beautiful experience. The staff is awesomely helpful and very friendly. It feels like home. One Pearl, owner or part of management, is a beautiful soul and kind though I didn’t get to see her in person. I will definitely keep going there when I am in Durban
