The Elopura Hotel

A lovely hotel in the middle of Sandakan. The hotel bed is free of bedbugs (we always check) and the room is super clean. The A/C is good too. The breakfast is quite nice and varied too. We ended up staying here on two occasions. One was in the standard room and another was in the Shah Rukh Khan suite, which was basically the size of two rooms and was super clean. The staff were incredibly nice to us and were super accommodating. I'd also like to give props to the team for having the right signage in their elevators too, for example, when they were doing refurbishments. Some hotels don't even bother to do this and it's a nice touch.

While the location is convenient, there are some issues with sewage smells nearby and you can clearly see that some people have some mental health issues in the square if you stay there long enough. It's quite uncomfortable and worth factoring in. If you're there quickly, it's fine.

The hotel is located in the only best place in the city of Sandakan. Waterfront, opposite a mall, 7 eleven just next to it. There are street food stalls opening around 5 pm with seating facing the sea. Hotel is clean, staff very nice, welcoming and helpful. They have luggage rooms, so if you are leaving for the jungle, they can store your big luggage for the days you are away. Rooms are just the perfect size, with all amenities included. The sea view rooms make your mornings perfectly beutiful. Breakfast is in the next building, wich is a restaurant belonging to the hotel. There is a great variety of local food, eggs, fruit. We can highly recommend the hotel, we stayed twice and would come back again if needed to stay in Sandakan. There is not much to do in the city itself, but is a great place as the gateway for nature trips outside of the city.

Nice location overlooking the water, close to mall, and restaurants along the waterfront. Comfortable bed, and nice facilities in room for the price. Rooftop terrace was pleasant and lovely outlook. Breakfast was reasonable without being fantastic.I would certainly stay here if I visited again.

If your looking for alcohol, there seems to be none available, but this is pretty normal for this part of Borneo. There was some minor inconvenience with some renovations taking place, but that was all.

The location of the hotel is superb. Right next to the sea and just next door to a shopping complex. From there on, you can walk to the many shops and stalls easily. The location alone made it an awesome stay. The decor is amazing. Retro and inspired by comic book heroes. Posters lined up the hallway. Beats many 4 star hotels and it extends into the rooms. The restaurant is in a seperate building that also houses a cafe. Just right next to the sea so you can have an open air meal. The breakfast is great with ample selection and you can even order other fancy drinks. For a small hotel like this, I am amazed that it even has a proper restaurant. There's a gym on the top floor. It's small but well maintained. There's even a shower and bottled water was supplied. Again, for a hotel of this scale to even have a gym is amazing. I stayed in a room with double beds. Smart TV with Netflix is available (but you need to use your own account). Electrical outlets is placed comfortably next to your beds. Wifi is free. There's also a tour arrangement service on the lobby floor. Again, a nice touch.

The bathroom is basically a partitioned glass space and not a proper room by itself. There's air gaps to the main bedroom. And it cannot be locked (no issue if you are staying alone but imagine the need for privacy if you are with other people). This to me is the only glaring but less significant issue about my stay here.

Location is fantastic, located right on the waterfront opposite a shopping mall with lots of restaurants etc.. at your door step. Staff we really friendly and polite. We had a room with an ocean view so it was lovely. If you’re driving your own car you will need to park in shopping complex car park, although a hassle it worked out well. Breakfast is great. Lots of choices and you can have your eggs cook to your liking. Service for breakfast excellent. We would stay again.

This was just a stop over on the way to Sabah so we only stayed one night but the hospitality we were greeted with was exceptional and the breakfast buffet in the morning was absolutely delicious. It was really nice to be looking out over the Hard Rock Cafe as well and the dinner here was excellent also. We had a room with a view of the ocean which was also amazing for such an affordable hotel. We had a wonderful stay and thank you to all the staff for their wonderful hospitality. We hope to return again one day :)

That I couldn't stay longer.

Breakfast was okay - there’s enough variety for everyone but it doesn’t stay hot and we were there very early. The location is brilliant albeit there’s little to do in Sandakan however it’s a great stopover after a late flight before rainforest tours etc. Staff were brilliant - very attentive and kind.

The room was quite warm in the night despite the air con being on. It isn’t the most luxurious but it was an affordable stay and expected level of comfort for what you pay. Nevertheless I would use them again for another similar trip!

In front of Harbour Mall sandakan, hence convenient if u want to shop. There are lots of eateries down the hotel that are open at night. The hotel restaurant also good. Nice concept of the hotel.

The breakfast has some option but when i went there, i came down for buffet breakfast 1 hour before and the food was not much anymore and they didn’t top up the food. Its 1 hour before nit 10 mins before the time ended. Plus its buffet style nit first come first serve. The price is included in the room rate.

The hotel was right by the water. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were nice. Management was very responsive, they moved me from my room to a suite after having a lot of problems with the water pressure in my room.

A lot of noise in the early evening from the band and DJ outside. There was also some kind of generator that went one outside for parts of the night. Thankfully I had very good earplugs. The water pressure on the top floor was very bad.

A nice, clean hotel in Sandakan in a good location on the seafront and by the mall. Good self serve laundry nearby. Attached restaurant had good food options at good prices and a very decent breakfast included. Loved that they provide glass bottles of filtered water rather than plastic and you can refill your own water bottle-good to see a push for more sustainable options in Borneo! Staff, particularly security and store staff were very friendly.

We couldn't check in on arrival, but the staff were kind and allowed us to store bags in a secure room. We had an issue with the room not locking, but staff helped us to resolve this ASAP and upgraded our room. Some minor English language problems with front desk, but staff in general very friendly and helpful!
