Chettinadu Mansion – An Authentic Heritage Palace

It was a privilege to stay at the Mansion. Not glossy but full of original features: tiles, wooden carvings, marble columns, trompe l'oeil. Comfortable and relaxing. The menu was limited to Chettinadu cuisine but the food was excellent and cooked to order. Service was superb and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Specifically I needed to go to a hospital and the manager facilitated my visit. Also, on leaving, I left my shoes and they were couriered to my next hotel overnight. We were very sorry to leave.

I would have liked more hanging space. The swimming pool area could be more inviting but hopefully this will be the case when the spa re-opens, scheduled for 2025 (closed due to covid).

If you are looking for an authentic heritage stay in the beautiful village of Kanadukathan this is a good choice. It is a fascinating chance to stay in a Chettinad palace with beautiful tiles, pillars and other decoration. There is plenty of information about the area. The rooms are clean and comfortable with good beds and shower and nice toiletries. . Some have a sit out area at the back and all share a communal verandah. Food is good but you need to order some time in advance. Staff are friendly and helpful. Drinking water in glass bottles is provided which is good. It's just a short walk to several homes that are open to the public for a small fee of 50 rupees.

Some people might not like the no shoes policy

Good place to experience the Chettinad heritage. Easy access to all the places in the village. They also have cycles if you want to drive around the villages. We also met the 87 years old owner who shared his life experiences with us.

This is really a 3 star type property but the very friendly and helpful staff made up for some average services. Rooms are very authentic but we would have preferred complementary slippers as opposed to walking barefoot throughout the property.

Chettinad Mansion is a perfect stay to experience the feel and flavours of the Chettinad region. It's a heritage property giving you the authentic feel of staying in a proper plush Chettinad house of history and grandeur. We stayed in the Solai room for two nights. Food they serve is delicious and there is good variety in the dishes offered. We took the cycles and roamed around the Kanadukathan heritage village in the evening. They also arranged on our request a cab for local sightseeing in the region on the next day. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable stay the Mansion.

A comfortable Chettinadu mansion with awe inspiring decorative tiles on floors, walls and ceilings. Very charming and cozy place with modern conveniences. Tasty and standard South Indian breakfast buffet with two or three traditional Chettinadu breakfast items included. Very friendly and informative staff. Did not get a chance to use free bicycles and swimming pool. The bullock cart ride is comfortable and we enjoyed going around the village.

Location is a bit remote and in a rural area. Not a lot of activities within the village - there is a handloom weaving centre, and 1 or 2 mansions where visitors are allowed. Not a lot of restaurants. Need a car to get to nearby temples. The hotel staff can make arrangements to hire a car.

Where do I start ?! The stay was super comfortable, I liked the concept for having a "foot parking" for our shoes outside the house so it gave it a more homel feel. The staff were really sweet, understanding and forever smiling. The rooms were kept really clean and hygiene was a top priority. Being engrossed on the phone is impossible here, not only this house but there are many many other houses where we could explore and take pictures which were right around the corner. The food was finger licking good, both veg and non veg, no complaints in food at all. There was also a museum inside the mansion itself, where they had displayed a sample of the life of the Chettinads during those times. Most of the things were kept as they were before the original builder/ owner vacated the house and we were able to go into the full house and appreciate all of it glory which made us feel like the owners of the house. All of the things were walkable distance, so it felt as if we were transported to the eras when these houses were built. Overall an enthralling, intriguing and new experience and I would definitely recommend all my friends and family to stay at Chettinadu Mansion, if they ever decide to pay a visit to Chettinad.

There was nothing to not like! I couldn't find any complaints except for that pool was tad bit dirty other than that everything was exceptional

Chettinadu town is easy to see by walk but unfortunately many palace are not in good state . Dinner in Mansion must to be Booked earlier.

you will feel the mansion feels in your room to this is the oldest one & they are well maintaining & the food was excellent staff are friendly & kids friendly they had the bicycles you can go around a village & I like the bullock cart my kid love it you vl feel like you are in relatives home

maintenance was good I like the room too felt Iam in mansion I stayed another one too but in that one room look like a good furnishing & all but I didn’t feel Iam in mansion but in this villa o felt Iam in mansion

Nothing as such! I feel the quantity of food served can be bit better. Otherwise, all the dishes were freshly prepared and very tasty!

Really friendly general manager who also did a great cooking display. This is a real heritage property, at a reasonable price.... Unusual in this place where the hotels seem either too expensive, or, worse, not incredibly overexpensive but very overpriced. I really liked the spirit if the olace
