Balmoral Hotel San José CR, Historic District

The staff was very friendly, the room was what I booked, beautiful and clean. I slept very well in comfortable beds. 😊

Breakfast was very poor, yogurt, milk, etc. were missing. The fruit was a bit old and tasted not very good! The front door is always closed and you have to wait until someone comes to open it, it would be better if they left it open until 22:00 so guests would have no problems! 😉

Location was fantastic and everything was in walking distance. Breakfast was included and loved the restaurant atmosphere. You could really feel the energy of the city being right downtown. We had the family suite and it was perfect for our family of five. The hotel was super clean and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.

It was a bit tricky to find the hotel and the entrance. Our taxi driver was having trouble locating the entrance in order to drop us off where we were not on a busy street. Rooms were spacious and very clean, only our blow dryer was broken and a/c was leaking a bit of water. I let staff know and they took care of it.

The hotel has a great location right on Avenida Central, where it's an easy walk to museums, restaurants and shopping. The room was comfortable with AC, hot water, large refrigerator/freezer, microwave and coffeemaker. We loved the little enclosed balcony with a table and chairs. The hotel has a decent gym for working out. There's an on-site restaurant where we had 4-5 choices for breakfast which was included. We also enjoyed a dinner there.

The beds were too hard, but okay for a night or two.

Great staff and treatment, nicely furbished, very central, parking, patio downstairs with a restaurant and bar, overall a nice stay to wrap up our trip. Thete was some confusion over ordering an airport taxi but it got sorted in the end.

All good really, located on busy main street if that’s not your thing maybe, but indoors was really quiet. I for one appreciated being within a short walk of everything.

Several breakfast choices (you order a plated breakfast - it is not a buffet). Restaurant in hotel is very nice and reasonably priced for the area. Parking was easy. Excellent location - literally a 5 minute walk to all tourist spots but not in the tourist area so less noisy. I had a room with an enclosed balcony - and once I closed the balcony door, all street noise was gone. VERY quiet. Great gym. Room was HUGE with a full-size refrig and microwave, Had coffee maker w/coffee in room. Extra -large TV with LOTS of English channels (something that is hard to come by in Costa Rica hotels - even those catering to Americans). The bath tub was great too - very deep and spacious (note that not all rooms have bathtubs). I had decent wifi in my room as well. I would definitely recommend.

As a personal preference - I like a soft bed - so for me, the mattress was a little hard. I would recommend they change to pillow top mattresses or add a memory foam topper. But again - that is a personal preference.

We loved the close location to the national theater and jade museum. The room was very comfortable. The beds were great, and the balcony had a decent view of the mountains! We had our rental car when we first got there and the parking garage felt very secure and was easy to access as a guest. Breakfast was excellent and the wait staff at the restaurant were wonderful.

The elevator could use some love, but it worked! Otherwise, the place was perfect for us!

This is the third or fourth time in a matter of a few months and the guys at the front desk ( Luis Diego and Diego) were very helpful. I was upgraded as I requested . Love the location of the hotel .

always have problems with the elevator that doesnt stop on the lobby level . Had to trick it go down while i take the other .. it needs to be fixed as its a nuisance

It is centrally located, walk to many shops, restaurants bakeries and museums. it is also one of the main hotels for day tour pick ups. It has its own restaurant to serve breakfast and dinner but the service is not great. The breakfast has 5-6 fixed choices and very basic. But the pros are far more than the cons. Worth it.

Location of the hotel is perfect to walk around in San Jose. Breakfast was included in the plan and was very good. Also it was nice that Costa Rican coffee powder was prepared in the room.

The facility is little bit outdated, especially bathroom.

The location: super centric, heart of town The rooms, spacious, clean and with very good beds The personnel: everybody is super nice and helpful. really pleasant experience ! Parking is free, too!

There is nothing I didn’t like about this fun hotel. I have one suggestion though: the restaurant should add some vegan options to the menu as the world is changing and meat is not neccesary nor healthy. And with many many millions of people leaving meat off their menu, it’s a good idea to adapt to a changing world. For instance offer hummus, vegan burgers and that sort of simple thing.
