Boutique Hotel Helmhaus Zürich

It’s always good to revisit a hotel you stayed in before (this my third) to ascertain if they have kept up their standards. Helmhaus is in a prime (but quiet) location adjacent to old town Zurich accessible to transport and easy walking distance to a number of sites. Many restaurants for every taste are nearby. It’s small and quiet, (24 rooms) employs an excellent staff who are welcoming and knowledgeable. The rooms are not large but the layout is efficient and comfortable. Shower with a full tub, great water pressure and plenty of hot water are definite pluses. Helmhaus may be in contention for the world’s smallest elevator (one passenger + luggage) but it does the job. A rapid turnaround laundry service is available for those in need, I arrived at 1300h and had it back by 1800h. The breakfast room and the adjacent relaxing sitting area are among the most pleasant I have encountered, with superb service offering a good selection of eggs, juices, breads, fruits, cheeses, meats, yogurt, etc. and excellent coffee, brewed to your specifications. As testimony to their helpful and stable staff I recognized two key members that were there 6 years ago. Finally high functioning Wi-Fi access.

No negatives to mention, this hotel is best suited to single travelers and couples. They continue to perform at a high level of service. There a cheaper venues, but not with this quality of service.

My 4th stay at one of my all-time favorite boutique hotels. Multiple return bookings speaks to the issue, “Worth the price of admission”. Little has changed, this small well-located boutique hotel continues to maintain its high level of service. Here are the Key Points Summarized: 1. Delicious breakfast + NY Times (international Edition) 5. Good value, Best for single adults or couples 6. High functioning Wi-Fi 7. Comfortable beds + excellent water pressure 8. 15-minute walk to Zurich main train station 9. Directly on two tram lines and a 5-minute walk to others

Helmhaus remains in contention for the world’s smallest elevator (one passenger + luggage) but it does the job…until the day of my departure when it was temporarily “Out of order”. A first I all my trips but notable in a six-story building for the mobility challenged. No doubt this was corrected in short-order. Wish the room had bathtub.

The staff at the reception and especially the breakfast ladies are very friendly. Breakfast was lovely and prepared with heart. Food is fresh, clean and new small items on different days. Location is extremely convenient in the heart of the city centre, close to sights, shopping and restaurants. Rooms were clean and quiet. Our room for two was a corner room which was of very good size with a slight open view between the two adjacent buildings. They provided a small pillow of organic materials which I found really helped sleep.

There really was not anything we didn't like. But it would be an even better experience if the air con could go a bit cooler. It is however not a complaint.

Very good location. 5 min walk from Stadelhofen train station. Great for walking around old city. Numerous cafes & restaurants. Room was comfortable and staff very helpful. Would stay here again.

The lift is very small, even by European standards. If you are claustrophobic, ask for a room on the ground floor. Wasn’t a problem for me, as I used the stairs except when taking my luggage up to my room. Also if you are a bigger person, you might find the shower a bit of a squeeze.

The breakfast lady was friendly and welcoming. The range and quality of food was excellent. The room was a nice space in which to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Reception staff also welcoming and good on information.The location was perfect for exploring the old town or walking up to the lake, within walking distance of the station. Restaurants available nearby.

We were very happy with our stay. The bedroom was quite warm and could I think be uncomfortable in summer.

Excellent location, close to restaurants, landmarks and the beautiful Lake Zürich. Whilst the rooms are small they offer free tea and coffee all day and night on level 1 so you may help yourself anytime. The daily breakfast was always impeccably presented and fresh with loads of choice. Staff were helpful and informative.

The only thing we disliked were the pillow choices. One was too hard and the other too soft!

A modern room (although small), with sufficient lighting, friendly receptionist, excellent location, good breakfast. We felt sorry for the lady in the dining room, which had to take care of 10 people in parallel, showing up just as the dining room opened.

very small elevator which cannot fit more than 2 without luggage, although it's a 700 years old building, so at least it has an elevator... The room is small.

The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the city and for the train station to get to other cities. You are able to walk everywhere. The staff communicated before and during our stay and were helpful with suggestions on where to eat etc. The rooms are small, but extremely well appointed with everything you need. We had two twin beds and it was very doable. Highly recommend this hotel.

We had a great stay at this hotel. Superb, central location. Really clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was excellent; high quality, fresh food. Finally, thank you to Mario at Reception for being so helpful and sharing his local knowledge with us.

Room was well laid out and made efficient use of space. Very clean, great location, decent air con, and excellent staff.

Not much really. The cost was high but that was likely due to it being a short notice booking at the end of Zuri Fascht. Everything in Zurich was expensive so can't really blame the hotel for that. There wasn't really anything to complain about!
