Royal Palm Hotel

Property was clean, neat, presentable and aesthetically pleasing. Rooms were comfortable and space and area were relaxing.

1) Netflix was not working. DSTV app was not working. 2) For a family of 4, we only received 2 bottles of water and only 2 of each of the hot drink sachets, sugar etc. 3) Only 2 hangers in the second room. 4) After house keeping had left, our room door was left open. Upon arriving in the evening we noticed the door was not closed. 5) Upon arrival our microwave, fridge and kettle were not working. The maintenance guy had to switch it on on the switchboard. 6) House keeping keeps their trolleys in the middle of the aisles, we had issues getting to and from our apartment to the lifts as we had a wheelchair. House keeping did not move the trolley upon seeing the wheelchair, instead I had to struggle and move the trolley until I could pass through.

The executive suite was great value for money. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and professional, especially the staff at the Royal Palm Spa. We had an exceptional time at the spa. I loved that the hotel is conveniently located and we could easily walk across the road to Gateway mall. The hotel building had sufficient undercover parking, and there was security situated at the entrance to the hotel in the evening, so we felt safe walking back to the hotel at night.

The kitchenette in the executive suite was very neat and conveniently fitted with microwave, kettle and fridge. Unfortunately, crockery and glassware were not provided in the kitchen, but you can request these items from the restaurant.

The staff are super friendly and eager to help. The rooms, ours was the deluxe suite, was very spacious and luxurious. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. Did have to ask for butter on the first morning as only margarine was out on the tables. Location is great as one can get to Gateway shopping Centre by foot with a 3 minute walk. The balcony was a real treat and we spent time there having sundowner and eating the most amazing curry takeout from Canecutters, which is over the road at the Caltex garage.

There were a few issues that could help. The bath being a large luxurious bath had no handles to help you get in or out. The room has limited 2. prong plugs for cell phone chargers. If you don't bring your own adapter you stuck.

The rooms are spacious and very clean.

Staff was not very informative. At check-in they did not offer details about breakfast times, location of amenities, etc. They just gave over the keys and told us where the stairs were. I didn't find this very welcoming. We also had issue with a leaking aircon, it was resolved quite quickly but again interaction with staff on the matter was not the best hospitality. It almost always felt like we were bothering them. Restaurant was good but dinner service is a bit slow, waiting a long time for menus and then for drinks.

Bathroom was lovely, big, clean and very neat. Room size was perfect, which is what you would expect from a suite. Couch was comfortable and I could have easily slept on it if I couldn't make it to the bed. Very big balcony, which is nice as well. Security was friendly and helpful, cleaning staff were friendly and reception was professional.

The water pressure for the shower wasn't good at all. I would have liked a room with a better view (I had the view of the apartments and not of the mall which would have been more interesting). The place is nice but paying R80 a day for parking is ridiculous. There isn't much amenities offered by the hotel, and due to loadshedding there was a few technical issues including one of the lifts, and staying on the 6th floor means you do need to wait awhile for the lift.

I have stayed at this property before and was welcomed as a guest visiting for a second time. Fabulous welcome and upgraded to a two-level suite high up away from any noise Outstanding in every way. Breakfast was very good quality and all the staff incredibly warm and welcoming. Wi-Fi was excellent and the hotel is located in a very secure area with an abundance of shops, café's and restaurants.

I have been a business traveller since 1990 and I have been all over the world. I know what a good hotel is and I know where things could be done better. This hotel couldn't of done anything else to meet my expectations-absolutely superb Thank you

Everything !! Absolutely fantastic from the super high windows to the shutters on the window the balcony as viewing over the Gateway Mall. Super large bedrooms and 3 bedrooms we had. Super buffet breakfast as well. Super clean and fabulous staff. A fantastic family suite. Pure Luxury is all I can say. Aircon was fabulous as Durban a scorcher. Everything is large for this family suite. Exceptional luxury

The homeless people people screaming in middle of the night outside. Second balcony could have outside chairs.

It was my first time staying at Royal Palm Hotel, and besides the location, the hotel was a solid 10/10. The hotel room was super spacious (King Suite) with a king-sized bed; a lounge, and a very spacious balcony. The room was so clean and tidy. The aircon in my room worked so efficiently and cooled such a big room in such a short amount of time and not many hotels that I've been to had an aircon that worked as well as this !! The room is also equipped with a microwave (how thoughtful). The ambiance of the hotel was amazing! The price compared to nearby and surrounding hotels was not bad at all - it was fairly priced - Honestly, you will get value for money. A hotel that is on top of my list and a hotel which I definitely will recommend to friends. Location - 10/10 Ambiance - 10/10 Service - 10/10 Hotel room - 20/10 Room facilities - 15/10

Only one minor thing I did dislike was that the king-sized bed was a but uncomfortable, and the pillows were really hard.. if it was softer, it would have been amazing!

shortage of Reception staff- takes more than 30 mins to check in or check out. The hotel did mot refund my R1000 deposit even after several phone calls.

Checking in was smooth, the staff was welcoming and very friendly. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Air-conditioner was working well. Generator kicked in on time, we never felt loadshedding. It was close to so many amenities. Just a few minutes walk to gateway mall. Overall it was fantastic and we enjoyed our stay. I would definitely come back.

I think the hotel needs to upgrade their plugs. There was so many plugs but no two pin plugs available.
