Holiday Inn Express Marseille Saint Charles, an IHG Hotel

✅ The included breakfast was very good. There was a good variety every morning. ✅ The hotel is literally a few metres from the train and bus stations. We were able to take advantage of this several times. ✅ There is a Carrefour Express supermarket just up from the hotel.

❎ There was an annoying blue light in the bathroom that we couldn't switch off. ❎ The air conditioning unit wasn't always able to keep up with temperature. It was sometimes hard to get to sleep. ❎ The area of Marseille the hotel is in isn't the most attractive. There is lots of graffiti and beggars.

The hotel is located opposite the main railway station. The immediate area surrounding the station/hotel appears to be tidy and safe, (unlike many other cities where such areas can be a bit "dodgy"). The hotel is ideally placed for travellers coming into the city using the train or bus from the airport. To reach the "old port" area where there are many restaurants etc means a walk of around 20 minutes. Good buffet breakfast and the staff are friendly and helpful.

The water in the shower took around 5 mins to run hot - this was reported to reception on leaving.

The staff are lovely and helpful. The breakfast was quite good and plentiful. The room was a good size and the bathroom was well appointed. The walk to the port area where the bulk of the restaurants are located is about 20 minutes at a stroll, which we didn't mind. The train station is across the street so that makes it convenient for catching a train or coach.

Although the location is what we expected, the area looks seedy. That's to be expected whenever you're close to a railway station. Having said that, we never felt uneasy.

This hotel is located opposite the Central train station and could not be more convenient. It is a fantastic location for catching an early connection to Paris. The hotel staff are warm, friendly and welcoming and gave us good advice about train services and local things to see and do. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice of accommodation

Nothing. This hotel is a great choice for a short stay in this beautiful and fri3ndly city.. We highly recommend this hotel when staying in Marseille.

We were lucky enough to get a room with a terrace. The terrace overlooked the the city and we could see Basillique Notre-Dame de la Garde and the mountains which was lovely. Enjoyed that we could eat our meals on the terrace as there were also tables and chairs. The room was big and clean. Were more than happy with the room. Staff were also very helpful and breakfast offered lots of options of food. Very central location across from the train station which made onward travel easy. We would to have stayed for a bit longer to explore the sites of Marseille but unfortunately only stayed for a short time.

We noted that the terrace light was broken and there were cigarette butts on the floor. But generally the area was clean..

The location is great if you need to be near the station. The hotel is literally across the road. You can get to the Vieux Port by metro in about 5-7 min or walking - about 20 min. The breakfast was very nice. The bed was good. The room was spacious and quiet. It had goid aircon. It was the quality you'd expect from a chain like Holiday Inn.

There was no armchair, sofa or a coffee table. It was very strange to have only a desk chair or a bed to sit on. There was plenty of space in the room to fit some armchairs and a coffee table.

It was nice having breakfast included in the price. I choose this hotel because we were travelling by train, arriving late evening. Hotel is right across from the train station.

The location of the hotel seemed to be in a rough area of the city. I was ok walking it in the daylight but didn’t want to walk in the dark! Restaurants near the old port often don’t start serving supper until 7 pm which meant a walk back in the dark. The location of the hotel caused some dinner selection problems.

We arrived by car and the hotel staff allowed us temporary parking to unlaod our bags, That was great as we had to return the carback to the Airport out of the City. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was also excellent. The Hotel is located opposite the main railway station which was perfect for us.

We decided to out for dinner but we did feel a little uncomfortable about the immediate area around the hotel. Apart from that there was very little to complain about.

Breakfast scrambled egg sausage and bacon stone cold fridge cod every day served in hot bains Marie when I informed staff after day three I was told there's a microwave over there. Food safety legislation really not adhered to for the service of hot food. Tinned fruit for breakfast then recycled next day to form some kind of fruit salad. Never looked forward to breakfast my whole stay.

We were in Marseille just for one weekend and needed a place the St. Charles station. The location is unbeatable. Right across from the station, with a supermarket 20m away. We were earlier and wanted to at least drop our bags, but our room was ready. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, breakfast was great.

The toilet and bathroom could use some improvements and fixes here and there. The door needed some rough pushing to shut, the toilet seat was loose and the water from the shower could be hotter. Other than that it was a great stay
