The room was styled beautifully in a paired down scandi way. I enjoyed having a bath, lovely body wash and shampoo but body lotion would’ve made it even better. The homemade cookie was delicious and a lovely touch. Every meal I ate here was absolutely lovely, not cheap but very nice. Jonty really goes the extra mile, has great attention to detail and makes you feel completely at home, the other gentleman although pleasant enough has an air of nonchalance about him and forgets things like toast, sauces, coffee, orange juice when being served breakfast. Perhaps it was just an off day, but I really had been spoiled by Jonty so couldn’t help but compare the two.

Only a suggestion, invest in coffee pod machines for the rooms.

Fantastic people and atmosphere at the Compasses Inn was exactly what we were looking for during our trip to the countryside of the UK. We stumbled upon a festival and had a great time at The Plum. All the staff were helpful and welcoming. One of the few places where dogs feel great and can enjoy the time with their owners. Really recommend this accommodation for all those that seek tranquility, nature, lovely people and tasty food with some local beers and vines. Everything was authentic, fresh and locally-made. Hands down the best English breakfast we ever had and probably the coziest and most picturesque cottage we have seen.

My wife would say the spiders, but I welcomed them as part of the charm of the place. I know it would seem cheesy but the place is really almost too perfect.

It’s in a really beautiful remote spot, and the beer garden has a lovely view. The pub is cosy and traditional, while the room was very clean and stylishly renovated. The staff were very professional and friendly and the food was really delicious.

There was a little noise from the kitchen until the pub closed which is understandable for a pub but worth bearing in mind if you are expecting an early night. The room was very warm even with windows open and an electric fan in the room would have really helped.

Amazing gem hidden away down narrow winding lanes . Need to trust your sat nav , lanes not well signposted . Very welcoming , exceptional food , a delightful experience . Excellent service . Simple rooms , well appointed , home made biscuits on tea tray . Charming shared lounge .

Very popular with locals and tourists , small bar can get crowded , but plenty of outside space . Quite dark in bar area , but creates great atmosphere . Dogs allowed in dining area , sometimes get a bit lively .

I love the fact that you can drive straight past this Tiny Little Pub and not notice it is there. However, hidden inside is a Tardis. Space exists that doesn't seem possible from the outside. The food served in the Pub (rather than restuarant) which is not to insult it but describes the friendly atmosphere within, is superb. The room we stayed in above the pub was large and very well appointed. Clearly a lot of thought had been put into best use of the space.

Whilst not bothering us. I could see that the hub bub from the bar below might bother some people who want absolute silence. Also if you were staying more than a weekend the lack of a wardrobe might be annoying. There was a hanging rail for clothes, which was sufficient for a weekend.

It was set in a beautiful and peaceful location, with lovely views and walks nearby. Plum Cottage is a charming place to stay with modern amenities yet still feels cosy and full of character. Lovely bedrooms with comfy beds and a powerful shower in the bathroom. The home baked cookies on arrival were amazing and the breakfast was fantastic.

Perhaps better greeting when we arrived. We were later than we said we would be and the cottage wasn't quite ready.

A lovely historic inn which has stayed true to its origins, The staff are welcoming and friendly. The menu for evening meal is good pub fayre. The breakfasts are good and the room comfortable. There are some nice touches such as a separate communal sitting room with some interesting, old books to read on subjects relating to the area.

There is nothing I didn't like. Note that the inn is on a very narrow country lane so care is needed when driving.

We had a beautiful and relaxing stay. The host was incredibly warm and welcoming. It was exceptional because of the attention to detail, the fantastic rooms with Scandinavian design touches bringing calm, privacy, friendliness, delicious food and generous additions of organic essential oil products, handmade oatmeal cookies etc. it was over and above our expectations for this great price.

Couldn’t fault it at all

This is how far "out of the way" Compasses Inn is: google maps got lost about 200 yards before we arrived. This added to the mystique of the place, as did the friendly neighbours who helped us. The rooms were exceptional, beds comfortable, and it was so quiet - just bird songs in the morning. We could leave the window open at night. We arrived late our first day, and were not going to seek restaurants or grocery stores. No problem! Their restaurant was open until 9:30, and the food was excellent. Best place I have stayed, all trip! I highly recommend Compasses Inn!

Room was lovely and very clean. Bathroom stylish and beds comfortable. Location was lovely and I think the pub was the most oldy worldy one I've ever seen - beautiful.

The room was above the kitchen and it was so noisy (extractor fan?) It shut off at 10 but it was difficult to ignore it before that. Breakfast was nice but not many vegan options (I recommend booking breakfast on booking.com as I don't think they charge for children in that case but we were on checkout).
