Viang Thapae Resort- SHA Extra Plus

Really nice and cosy hotel in traditional Thai style with lots of dark wood. It’s located in a quiet alley but very close to restaurants and bars and the old city. I stayed in a deluxe room with a super comfortable king size bed and a balcony. Very welcoming, hospitable staff.

The bathroom was quite wonderful but the sink only had cold water. Wi-Fi was unstable and weak. Most of the time it didn’t work, which was rather annoying. The TV reception was equally terrible. There’s an open air gym which is completely dysfunctional

excellent location can walk to main attractions and food at around 10 minutes, hotel on a quiet street so nice and quiet at night

a lot of flies and mosquitoes but I guess this is the same everywhere in Chiang Mai

Really like the location of the hotel in relation to Chiang Mai old town, restaurants and bars. The location is also in a good place so very quiet. Rooms were nice and the staff very friendly. We left too early in the morning for golf so didn't have any breakfast.

The only thing that I had an issue with was the hot water in the shower. It took a long time for the water to heat up and even after the maintenance person came to fix it only last a short time. The small bar near the pool closed at 3pm but because there are many options close by the hotel to eat we weren't bothered by it closing early.

the main window/door is straight onto a shared walkway in most rooms which means you can’t really let in natural light or open the door without people looking in as they walk past. they have sheer curtains which does the job but from the photos it looked more private. as some other reviewers have said the pool gets no sun and is very cold. no issues but if you’re looking for a hotel with pool to hang around this probably isn’t it.

it’s a nice hotel in a quiet and very good location, closed to the old town of Chang Mai. The temples for sightseeing and the night market are in walking distance , around 10 to 15 min walk… the breakfast was good and the pool and peaceful atmosphere in the garden area amazing and the other staff member of the hotel were friendly and helpful..

the very cold check in process by arrival early in the morning at 8.00 am .. no good morning or any nice welcome talk or question like how was your travel , or welcome to our hotel , nice to have you here etc.. so was a not professionell experience with this lady at the reception by arrival and we had exactly to wait until 2pm to for the check in to the room (without an extra charge) even the hotel was really not fully booked. We think this is not a smart and nice service. But ok this is the policy of the hotel…The breakfast was good and the pool and peaceful atmosphere in the garden amazing.. the other staff of the hotel was friendly and helpful…

Beautiful Hotel with nice Pool in a perfect location, you could easily reach a lot of (night) matkets and temples. But still very quiet and with a small but beautiful garden to relax. The rooms are nice and have a good air condition. We really enjoyed swimming for half an hour in the evening after an exhausting day in the city (pool was open until 8 PM). The staff was always very friendly and the day we left, we could stay until the evening in the pool area. We went to a cooking class, the canyon water park und an elephant tour during our stay there. We really can recommand spending some days there. It is easy to arrange tours from there and with grab you can get fast and cheap everywhere in and around the city.

The power in the room turns off, when you leave it, so you cant program the air condition to cool down the room before you come back.

It's very cozy for friends/family stay. Like the decoration/interior a lot. Excellent location. Overall a very nice Thai style hotel to stay in.

The gym equipment didn't work. And when we first arrived by Grab, Google Maps pointed the driver to the back door, which is slightly inconvenient with luggages, but this can be corrected quickly once I saved the front door location in Grab while standing in lobby.

Beautiful boutique hotel conveniently located close to the Night Market and the grown folks strip (massage parlors, bars, restaurants, etc). My room was a bit on the smaller side, but very well appointed, with a big comfortable bed. Excellent bathroom facilities with a rain shower and plenty of hot water. It is tucked away down a little street, so it is really quiet. Staff were very nice and very professional, and ready to help with whatever you need. The pool was a nice touch, but the sunbathing area is very small (only three lounge chairs) and the water was freezing. The garden is lovely, especially to sip your morning coffee.

No complaints about the hotel itself, I was just not a fan of the night market area.

Place is much better than the photos on booking.com and elsewhere. They need a better photographer. Wonderfully designed, spacious, comfortable, feels like a small luxury apartment. Enormous landscaped jungle-type garden pond with fountains. 2 reasonably sized pools. Friendly staff. I skipped the breakfast as you can have very good a la carte for half the price at the Stories cafe up the road. Bring change to Stories cafe cos they always whinge when you pull out notes.

If you are staying in Chains Mai for long term I guess you could find a place about half the price but I can't think you'd find a place as good for this price point.
