POR Thapae Gate

The staff, without a doubt. Everyone we met went above and beyond, but King & Emma deserve a special shout out! We would have happily taken King with us on our onward journey to Phuket, but we don’t think his boss would’ve been happy and we can understand why! Obviously the day security (FU) and the night check in agent (white cat, unfortunately I don’t know his name) were an added bonus for cat lovers like us. The hotel itself has an excellent location, breakfast has a good choice and is tasty - i particularly enjoyed the variety of thai dishes on offer. There is a microwave if you prefer it piping hot. Complimentary water, tea, coffee, hot chocolate is available throughout the day which is a nice touch. Aircon, wifi and showers are all very good, electricity is stable (unlike at the 5* hotel we stayed at for a few nights in between for a wedding!).

The only negative - and it’s really nit-picking!! - is the lack of space in the room for suitcases and storing clothes. Fine to live out of a suitcase for a few days, but if i had been staying longer i like to be able to unpack.

We had a wonderful stay, especially because of the enthusiastic and friendly team! Beds are comfortable, rooms are quiet big, breakfast was great and on top of that, the hotel is well isolated, so you can't hear much from other rooms (very uncommon for Thailand). Highly recommended!

Pool looks great and gives lots of peace in the morning, but is most of the time in the shadow and there is not much privacy. But we came for the city, not for relaxation on the pool in the Hotel.

This hotel is a gem! The staff is outstanding.Tang and Ben, at the front desk are delightful, greeting us each morning with smiles and sincerely asking if they could be of assistance with our daily adventures. The hotel itself is designed with the guests comfort in mind, lots of relaxing areas to comfortably sit, eat,or read in. The breakfast was delicious with so many unique choices, changing daily. One of our favorite perks was the snacks which were available 24 hours a day. Fresh fruit, sliced and whole, sticky rice treats, real coffee, tea and cookies wherever you felt like it! They purify and bottle their water and it's free. The location was central and easy to navigate.

I honestly can't think of anything we didn't like! We have been traveling for over a month and this hotel was our favorite!

Comfortable, functional, bright hotel, with amazing staff - King & Emma were particularly welcoming and helpful and a true asset to the team. Air conditioning was good, important for the hot and humid days, wifi signal was also strong and faster fast. Breakfast was good with a good variety of thai dishes.

Enjoyed everything! What can I say, best boutique hotel stay ever. Look no further, this is THE place to stay in Chiang Mai. Fabulous location close to EVERYTHING yet very quiet, quaint. The hotel is beautiful, minimalist and modern. Nice pool area and beautiful breakfast Cafe with the most delicious breakfast. The staff work tirelessly cleaning, serving people and tending to your every need all day. Friendly, unbelievably helpful people working there. We were so sad to leave after an amazing 4 night stay. Would recommend to anyone staying in chiang mai, we walked by many hotels and none compared to Por Thapae Gate!

Nothing negative to write

Excellent, so far glad we chose this hotel Location - so close to Thapae gate where most activities are especially the Sunday market. We were there on NY eve and there were a live concert and lanterns floating at the gate The hotel provides fresh fruits (mangoes, water melon, dragon and passion fruits), coffee, tea and water all day round. Its so nice to have fresh fruits after we came back from a trip or long walk. There is a water refill station at each floor The breakfasts were delicious. Plenty of varieties: hot thai food, banana sticky rice in banana leaves and a wide range of western food. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They booked a private driver for us to take go to Doi Suthep. They can arrange day tours as well and its best to book them once you’re in Chiang Mai

The shower curtain didn’t keep the water in so the shower floor was quite wet after each shower

We have just spent 3 weeks at this extraordinary hotel, and I can honestly say it was one of the best hotel experiences of my traveling life. Its situated right near Thapae gate in the old city, and is walkable to everything including the amazing Sunday walking market which is literally at the end of the street, but you wouldn’t know it as the hotel is amazingly quiet. It’s quite a modern hotel, the rooms are moderate with a minimalistic design but very versatile. What made the place were the staff, I haven’t met such energetic, happy, helpful, hard working and kind people who bent over backwards to make your stay the best it could be. The other amazing part was how environmentally conscious the hotel chain was, from providing you water in reusable glass bottles, having a filtered water machine on every level, and recycling receptacle in every room. The breakfast which was included was exceptional (my friend stayed at 3 different hotels while I was at Por and her breakfasts were no where near in comparison), they also have a good vegetarian selection. 24hrs a day you were able to grab fruit (mango, passion fruit, dragon fruit and pineapple) plus water and coffee, tea and hot chocolate all included in your stay. I want to thank some staff personally for making our stay exceptional Meuw, Tangmo, Cookie (Kie), Emma, King and Jeb. You were all just amazing. Thank you for an incredible stay which I will compare all other hotels too.

Absolutely nothing

You can’t find a better location than this small chic boutique hotel right smack in the middle of the beautiful old city, but far enough from the busy Main Street so you are away from the hustle and bustle The rooms are small but have everything you need for your stay in Chiang Mai. The bed was so comfortable that I didn’t want you to get up in the morning. The staff will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. The breakfast is fantastic and so delicious, from local to western options. There are also plenty of Vegetarian friendly options. Their laundry service is quick, very affordable and amazing. We walked all over the city from here and did the 2 day, 10 temples a day tour on our own. It’s so worth it.

There was no hot water at the sink. So shaving was out of the question

The staff was amazing, they were super friendly and incredibly helpful. They always made conversation and made suggestions for sightseeing, and are overall interested. The accommodation was very clean, they were cleaning constantly, even the pool was cleaned every day. The breakfast consisted of many local fruits, local dishes but included a more European breakfast style as welll. Coffee, tea, water and fruits were available to every guest throughout the day. The hotel is located in the old town of Chiang Mai, which means we were able to walk to many sights. There’s a walking market on Sundays in the street of the hotel, which was great as well. We also used the bicycle (free of charge) to make our way through the city.

Nothing here, had an amazing time.

The location was really good, inside the old city walls right next to Tha Phae Gate. One of the things I was not sure about was whether it was okay to smoke cannabis(as it's legal in Thailand now) in the smoking area they have; the answer to this was yes. I asked the staff, and it was fine. So that’s good to know if that’s your thing. The location for the Sunday Night Market is excellent, as it happens right outside the hotel. The staff are all friendly. You get coke and water, free each day, in your fridge.

It’s not that I didn’t like this, but something to keep in mind is that the Sunday Night Market happens right outside of your hotel, from afternoon to late at night, if your want to get a taxi either to drop you off or pick you up, you’re going to have to do it from the Tha Phae Gate area but that’s a short walk and to be fair it was not a big deal as I planned to walk around the Sunday Night Market anyway and it turns out this is huge, goes on so far that I didn’t visit it all 😉
