Hôtel & Spa Jules César Arles - MGallery Hotel Collection

Adorable, helpful and most welcoming staff!

The hotel was obviously understaffed during the Xmas holidays and it showed on various occasions: breakfast buffet, new year's eve dinner at the restaurant, spa... That being said, the personel did everything they could to make sure guests have the best possible time. In the room (2nd floor suite), despite the avant-garde decor, we missed basic amenities like the ability to dim the lights (or at least have some sort of ambient lighting): it was either very bright or too dark. Also, absent was any sort of workable bedside lighting: to read a book lying in bed we had to keep the strong ceiling lights on. Finally, we would have really loved some kind of hooks or chair or something to hang our clothes on. Bottom line: the room looked good but lacked functionality.

Great location, especially for Saturday markets as these are directly outside. Staff are very helpful. The water, juices and nightly chocolates put in room are an appreciated touch to our stay.

The bathroom. A black square toilet is the most uncomfortable and unfunctional toilet I have sat on. The black bath is not much better. The vanity basin is not practical for washing hands or having tape on low flow as water doesn't stay within the sink. Plus, there is nowhere to put the soap. The hot water flow is very low.

Of course the quality of the hotel itself is extremely important, but the kindness of the staff always touches me. And I say "always" because I have been staying at Jules César for decades now. This time I had unexpected problems with flights and had to change my reservation during my staying and the staff drove me through all the steps of the process, which involved third parties. They did not simply perform well their job, they really wanted to help and that is priceless.

I do not know if something can be done, but I stayed by the pool and I suspect the bathroom window allowed some insects to enter and they were nasty little fellows. Joking with some of the Beatles' lyrics, you might say they came in through the bathroom window :).

We had booked a classic room with an upgrade to the next level. On arrival, we were put in a room with a rather noisy fan/aircon unit. I went back to reception and after a check from a staff member, we moved to the 2nd floor and a lovely superior room. The room was large with a very nice bathroom. Due to the nature of this historic building, the windows facing outwards will be rather small. This is the character of the unique building. Very memorable stay and we'd book here again if we were in Arles. The valet parking was excellent and definitely worth the money.

The breakfast area was understaffed with one poor person having to do everything. On our first morning, they had run out of muesli. Not a problem after that.

Excellent location. The central cloister creates a very original atmosphere. The decoration is very extravagant and not very consequent with the name of the hotel or with its "monastic" origin but after the first shock, we managed to live with it! The staff was great and we were upgraded when we complained that the window of the room was too small and didn't allow for much light to enter.

Because of the original use of the building as a monastery, the windows are quite small at least in the "cloister-level" rooms. This was not evident from the photos on the hotel's site. The very few photos of room windows are from suites and not normal double rooms.

Room small. But was a basic room and fine for our needs. Water not hot enough and bathroom fan didn’t work. Garden and pool closed at 8 pm. Was hoping to take a coffee out and read. First and second day there was no service by the pool. Third day there was. Much better!

The location of the hotel is incredible -- right next to the Arles market. It is extremely convenient to drive to but then also to walk to the city center. The breakfast is great.

There was a problem with the hot water in the room for the first night -- the technician came and kind of half-fixed it. It did end up working eventually.

The location is exceptional and the Jules Cesar is much of a high end venue in regards to its size and overall comfort. The staff is very friendly and helpful and I liked seeing the cleaning personnel working all day long and smiling and greeting us every time we'd meet them.

There are a few things that need improvement. First off, please change those carpets... they might be clean but they look filthy and that sticks in the mind. There are constant odors in the bathroom coming from the drain pipes and that isn't what we expect in a 5 star. And last but not least, I'm okay to book for the sauna and jacuzzi but 20 euro... come on guys, we're paying a great deal of money already for this place.

The breakfast had a wide choice. The ordered hot food was nicer and fresher than the help yourself hot food which tended to be only like warm Wide variety

The bar service could have been more noticeably available. Often had to go into the restaurant or ask at reception for service

Very good location. Breakfast is good. Staffs are friendly.

The hotel needs some renovation work. The equipment and furniture are very old. Shower in the room is not easy to manipulate. The standing is way below "5-star". And the coach in the suite we stayed is broken actually. One can barely sit on it.
