Hotel Excelsior - Liburnia

The staff are brilliant and very polite. We had a half-board and stayed in a family room (two connected rooms), very spacious and clean. Food at the restaurant was excellent, both for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is on excellent location, you can easily go walking by the coast all the way to the city of Opatija, or take a short bus/car ride. I'm not sure for the parking during the high season, but in November there were plenty of free parking spaces around (parking in Lovran is free).

This is a great place, I know it well and often stay there.

It is a bit dated, doors to balcony could not lock properly, air con one could not adjust. The hotel is overall great, but in a need of general refurbishment.

Spacious hotel with a wide range of facilities. Very good food (breakfast, dinner) for a mass tourism hotel. Excellent indoor pool area. Nice, communicative staff at reception, restaurant and housekeeping.

Overpriced drinks - on par with the 5 star Ambassador in nearby Opatija which makes no sense. As a result the main bar near the reception was never seen serving anyone and guests during the dinner time were either boycotting or ordering water or sodas. The same goes with pool services - excellent facilities for massage etc but prices were off-putting. €300 a night for the stay was just about acceptable but the extras went over the top.

Excellent location with two swimming pools, spa and a private beach (although concrete which is typical for the area) and in walking distance to restaurants and town center. There is a promenade along the sea front right above the concrete and rocky beaches allowing for a daily walk. Lots of sunbeds and umbrellas to chose from. We were upgraded to a sea view at no cost and it hugely added to the experience - the sunrises were spectacular! Breakfast was exceptional and dinner options reasonable if you buy when reserving the room (although you still pay for drinks on top).

The room AC was a bit too loud and the bathroom could benefit from shower instead of the bathtub. The sea front is made of concrete (which we knew when coming) which works with calm seas but gets very wet with waves. At times the kids were quite noisy at the outdoor swimming pool but hard to blame the hotel for that.

The staff was very helpful and kind. They did a really good job. At the reception and also in the restaurant. We got an upgrade for the room se we appreciated it. Great to have swimming pools inside and outside and the saunas but...

Everything could be exceptional but when you look at the things from closer they need some "love". Room nice, but a big hole on the curtain, ruined wall, the saunas and the swimming pool are the same. The steam bath didn't work, two showers of 4 out of order, swimming pool a bit ruined. So you have everything but you don't feel the it perfect.

The Excelsior is a modern hotel with great public indoor and outdoor spaces and three pools (one inside). Our room (902) was spacious and comfortable, immediately off the lobby/reception. It was easily found on the main road through Lovran opposite a petrol station. More importantly, behind the petrol station was an area of free parking, which the hotel kindly directed us to. Parking outside the hotel was a manageable 15 Euros a night or 18 Euros in their garage. As we arrived on a Sunday, made busier by the annual Chestnut Festival, we did park outside on first evening but there was plenty of spaces after the weekend. First evening we dined in the very spacious restaurant-a bounteous buffet at 19 Euros a head-so very good value. As it is a large hotel we were not surprised to find a number of coach tours as fellow guests but this did make the restaurants busier and not so peaceful or relaxing. We very much enjoyed the access to the seaside paths below the hotel, with short 10 minute walk to the center of Lovran but we also enjoyed a 12 kilometer walk to and from Opatija along the "lungomare". Breakfast offered plenty of choice and excellent range of food of all kinds, included in our very reasonable nightly price of room.

The coach tours which seemed to operate daily meant meal times were very busy. I am not sure all the guests would have appreciated the Liburnia Hotel's hospitality function (presumably for the travel trade) held poolside in Monday evening which seemed to start about 6.30 pm and went on somewhat nosily until close to 11 pm

Wonderful breakfasts and dinners, a short walk to the sea, a great program for children, services in general at a very high level, nice but cooler pools including an indoor one with salt water. We will be definitely happy to come back again.

The only one problem was the availability of parking on the street in front of the hotel, but at the end we got lucky and found a place directly opposite to our balcony :-)

Nice hotel on the beach, nice rooms and good room size, i had room with sea view and balcony, very nice sea view , sun and moon are rising, good food at halfboard, kind staff.

Shadow comes to the beach already at 4 PM, after that hour no more sun. Very epxnesive drinks from mini bar in the room, at the pool bar and diiner : small bier ca 5 eur, small glass of white wine 0,1 liter starts at 4,8 eur and more depending on a sort of wine. Thats what i call robery. Praking in the hotel garage costs 17 eur per day !!

The location of the hotel couldn't be more perfect. Right next to the sea. The view from our room (905) was amazing. We also had a huge balcony. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean when we arrived and was cleaned every day. Breakfast and dinner were both buffet style. Huge variety. Something for everyone 's taste. The staff was very helpful. You have to pay about 18 euros/ day for parking in the hotel's garage. But parking is free in the street so you just have to find a spot. It can be tricky during the peek summer season. We would definitely choose to stay in this wonderful hotel.

There is a nice wellness center in the hotel. The pool is huge. The only downside is that in the sauna you can't wear a bathing suit. That means most people are naked. It would be nice to have at least a time slot during the day when people should at least be coverd in a sauna towel. Maybe more people would enjoy the benefits of the sauna world this way.

Good location, at the sea - with walking path along the coast. Exceptional kind and helpful staff. Nice and renovated wellness. Fast and stable wi-fi in the room.

Hotel needs to be refurbished. Parts of hotel equipment and outside areas (park, access to the beach) are not in best condition. Parking is limited and is payable (17 €/day); but there is a bus stop in front of the hotel, so you can leave your car during stay in hotel. Meals/food selection could be somehow more creative - at least for a **** stars hotel.
