Swan Hotel by Greene King Inns

Easter weekend so the Swan was quite busy. This was a return visit and we’d asked if we could have the same room, which was clean and spacious with great facilities and a large bed, (although tea/coffee provisions were stored in the drinking mugs so really needed to be in a separate pot) The breakfasts are very good with a great choice. As it was a bank holiday weekend some of the items had run out but this was not an issue for us. The waitresses were lovely and friendly even though some of the other guests were not very nice to them. Great location, free parking and evening food available. Would definitely recommend The Swan Alton

Plenty of room around the back for parking and our twin room was on the ground floor right next to it so found it easier to pass our luggage from the car through the window once we had the keys. Check in was simple, said room down the corridor just away from the kitchen, large and modern with iron and board, hairdryer, tea and coffee etc, with shower over bath and beds were comfy. Updated style in an old hotel, right in the High St, perfect for a look round and to visit a few different pubs before watching the CL Final as we settled down in one. Good choice at breakfast too, a pleasant stay even though we picked the hottest day of the year!

Few off putting damp patches on the ceiling in various places but looks like some are starting to be painted/plastered over. Room was very hot due too the mini heatwave and the little fan in the room wasn't up to much. However, we anticipated this and brought our super powerful cooler which helped immensely. Oh, apologies from me for not leaving a tip for the cleaners, forgot and as one who did it for a few years, something I always do knowing every little helps. Well, nearly always!

This hotel is in the heart of the city, and you are moments from the high street with lots of amenities. Although you are still able to get a good nights sleep. The staff are super helpful, friendly and very accomodating. Beth is great! I have stayed there a further 5 more times since my first stay, and will use this hotel whenever I am in Alton. Beds are comfy and high, the bathroom is clean, and a home away from home.

No room service option avaliable and not many options for lactose intolerant people, but there being many restaurants about does combat that if you have dietary requirements. Also some rooms might require more walking, so make sure to add to notes if you have any issues with knees or joints.

Our room was lovely, well cleaned, had a fan, iron and ironing board and hair dryer. The plug sockets also had USB ports which was a bonus. Bathroom was also very clean. Breakfast had good stock of tea, coffee, juice, pastries, cereals, bread for toasting, jam/marmite/chocolate spread/honey. We also had a cooked breakfast which was nice.

We couldn't actually find a remote for our TV anywhere in our room (checked absolutely everywhere!), we decided since we weren't actually going to be spending all that much time in our room anyway we wouldn't bother the staff with it but it would have been nice to have if we did want it. There were some marks on wall/ceiling looking like it was from an old leak or something but didn't really matter.

The room was big and spacious. I stayed with my daughter and husband and there were two rooms which was really great as well very one felt comfortable and had their space. The rooms are well equipped so we could iron our clothes for the wedding we were attending. The beds were really comfortable.

It was really noisy as the hotel is on the Main Street. There was no shampoo or conditioner, no shower cap nor soap etc. We had just a bottle of leftover shower/gel shampoo. We missed our breakfast as we slept longer after the wedding and we were informed that the restaurant was not serving brunch on that day which was disappointing.

Great location, very central. We went mainly to visit Jane Austen's House in Chawton and it was an ideal location whether walking or driving. Room was clean and comfortable, with a nice bathroom with lovely shower. Had the facilities we needed. Included a fan, essential during hot weather. Friendly and helpful staff. Good value. We'll definitely choose to stay here again if we visit Alton in the future.

Air con would be a plus, but this may not be possible with the age of the building. It seemed they may have been a little understaffed. The staff who were there were excellent - friendly, helpful and clearly working very hard. But it did mean there was a long wait for breakfast on the Saturday, and on the Friday night restaurant we were told the wait was almost an hour to place an order, though neither day seemed exceptionally busy. I suppose this also may not be something they can do anything about right now with industry wide staffing shortages, but if it is possible, hiring a few more staff would be great for a better restaurant experience and a better time for the staff too! If staying, go early for breakfast on Sat if you need to be somewhere that morning.

The location is excellent. The maintenance of the building needs some attention but has the potential to be very inviting. The new manager Mandy is doing a fantastic job and clearly has a great vision for improvements. Her customer service skills are second to none and she turned a potentially disappointing stay into a very enjoyable one.

We caught the restaurant on a bad night but Mandy listened to all our feedback and righted the wrongs. We have no doubt that great improvements are coming very soon.

Good location on the high street with plenty of parking to rear. Was quite even in our room at the front. Comfortable bed and good size room. Really nice and big towels Staff really friendly and helpful, special shout out to Jurgen.

Room smelt of smoke. Staff tried to help with air fresheners but it lingered. When manager Daryl cam in on Sunday, he apologised personally and gave us free breakfast and discount. It’s not their fault that previous occupant smoked in room, i hope they are made to pay the cleaning supplement and maybe get banned!!

Nice single+ room with a comfortable small double bed, perfectly situated in the heart of Alton town centre. Breakfast is extra (not included in the room price), but help yourself to a continental breakfast and tea & coffee, while waiting for your Full English cooked breakfast to be served to your table by a warm and friendly member of staff.

If you're a single person staying here and opt for a single room, rather than a double, be prepared to get some exercise walking up stairs and along narrow corridors. And as this is a very old building, no lift as far as I know, but after a hearty & filling breakfast (they do evening meals & there's a nice bar here too), a little exercise to offset stuffing ones belly isn't a bad thing.

Staff friendly but not particularly professional; water not hot enough (ran a bath but not hot enough); slippery surface for a shower (bath should be coated in non slip, it was dangerous) and only saw a sign saying bath mats were available at reception after I was undressed and under shower, they should be provided. A fan heater was provided for warmth, a shame an electric heater wasn't provided instead or a fitted heater with manual controls; tea and coffee etc were sachets in a mug you had to tip them out to use the mug..maybe put them in another container?; pillow was badly stained and needed a protector;
