Thon Hotel Orion

Liked everything. Reception - very welcoming attentive staff who took time to say hello and bye each time I went in/out hotel. Restaurant - really wide range of choice and quality of food. outstanding. no cutting corners here. also good range of drinks. Staff also very attentive. I liked that even for those taking a later breakfast at 9am, there was the same selection of fresh and warm food as for earlier, so the chef kept up great service right to 9.30. Lounge - comfortable inviting area to relax and have a nice (free) coffee. Room - I was in 954. Comfy bed, kettle etc available (for those who like milk in their hot drinks, bring your own as there was only powdered milk). also a little cold fridge area and good safe. Walk-in shower was fab. View over back of hotel to park, mountain, fjord, car park (see pic). Hotel also offers packed lunch at 105NOK. Location - just at the end of Bryggen so great location. 10 mins max walk to harbour. little supermarket is just behind hotel to the right next to church for essentials. I also like that for solo travellers, the hotel doesn’t add on a premium penalty for room bookings! Will defo be back!

Reception (1) think you should promote your packed lunch offer at check in, as I only noticed it in a poster in the lift on my last day, as the notices scrolled round slowly! (2) provide a little map of town centre also at check on would be a nice touch

Very nice 4stars hotel, central location, 5 min walk from Bryggen and very close to the fishmarket. The room was nice, well equipped, clean, they offer even umbrellas for extra. There is a Nespresso machine with capsules in the room. The staff was very kind everywhere. The breakfast is amazing, 4stars quality, very wild selection. Glutenfree and lactosefree/milkfree options also. Hot and cold meals, fruit juices, very good coffee (!!) (not the horrible "hotel coffee" version), lot of cakes, eggs, cold cuts, musli, fruits...etc. It's a very good start of the day.

The room was not too big, but it didn't cause any problem for us. I think they make the scrambled eggs from egg powder, they should change it for fresh eggs.

The location is great. It is just a 5 minutes walk to the centre of town and to all the tourist attractions - cable car, fish market, fjord cruises, shopping and good restaurants etc. The breakfast was great. There were cold and hot dishes with eggs prepared in many ways - omelette, scrambled, sunny side, well done and boiled. There were great cooked beans, tomatoes, bacon, sausages and pate too.

The reception counter is poorly manned. The reception is always full and there was no chance to get information from the receptionists.

no safe in room . just an empty space when reported to front desk they said it must have been faulty and said they would try to get another one but didn’t think they could . I asked well can you put our passports in the hotels safe , person at desk said we dont have a hotel safe . also reported the socket at the left hand side of the bed didn’t work and was hanging loose . said it would be fixed , it never was . In retrospect , shouldnt rooms be checked before people are assigned them . so wasnt impressed . also no umbrella in room as stated had to ask at front desk if I was marking out of 10 I would mark a 6/10. A couple of the reception staff need to lighten up a bit and be more friendly . fFor the price I paid I feel let down .

Thon Orion Hotel Bergen rm 286 Hotel: great location near centre of town, close to Rosenkranz tower, friendly helpful staff, great selection for breakfast. 20min walk from Central train station.Business Double Room 27 sq.m.  286: big comfy queen size bed with soft doona and pillows; Big bathroom with twin handbasins and big shower; Couch was comfy; TV a bit old and few channels and no casting; towels a bit thin; good selection of toiletries; coffee machine worked well; fridge small and not very cold: tip is to get ice from the hall

The breakfast was always full and fresh: a great choice of food (sausages/eggs/porridge/beans/salmon/vegetables/joghurt, different types of coffee, tea, milk, drinks and juice; fruit, pancakes, etc.) The location is perfect -just at the corner of the beautiful main street, Strandgaten where there are some museums, nice souvenir shops, many restaurants/cafes and bus-stops. The airport express bus (FLYBUSSEN) stops is there as well (Bryggen stop/Dreggsallmennlngen). The staff members are ready to answer all the questions (esp. a young lady wearing glasses:)

The only thing which needs improving is the soap availability in the bathroom. In fact, there is some liquid soap only over the bath itself which causes a problem when one wants just to wash the hands as it is rather difficult to reach it (there is a glass partition separating the bath from the sink). Also, it was rather cold in the room, while in the restaurant and the corridors it was warm.

The staff were helpful from the moment I walked in. Always there to answer questions. The breakfast! Oh my days! The options were vast and tasty. I stay almost a week and still was not able to try everything! Blew my mind! Hot options, cereal options, fruit, baked goods I could go on! You could customise to till your hearts content! Definitely not your bog standard breakfast! Room was lovely and clean, shower perfect pressure for after a long day out in the elements. Bed was so comfortable! I stayed alone but loved that instead of one double duvet they gave two singles so if you are travelling as two then no fighting over the covers.

Room at times was a little cold but nothing I couldn't have a hot shower to warm up or jump under the covers in bed for.

Brilliant experience- hotel was really lovely! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a room on the 10th floor overlooking the harbour so the views were fabulous! Breakfast was one of the best i've had in any hotel - selection of hot, cold, baked and cereal type options with daily smoothies and at the weekend a selection of treats brought round on a trolley. Location was great - a short walk into the centre snd preferable as less noisy. Would definitely stay again!

Room could've been a touch cleaner - dusty in places but didn't spoil my enjoyment.

Starting with the front desk staff, specially Angelina(not sure how to spell her name). She greeted us with a smile, gave me information on how to get to the center from the airport. she got us breakfast to take out with us. We left super early. The front desk lady called a taxi to take us to the train station. Never heard about THON HOTELS, I recommended a 100%. The breakfast was excellent. they clean the room everday and provided shampoo, conditioner soap and lotion. The wi-fi was fast. we also had a water heater and a coffe machine. again if you are visiting the Scandinavian area look for THON HOTELS.

I LOVED everything about this hotel! I had a lovely room with a great view of the harbor (I was mesmerized by the Ferris Wheel lights!). I loved the main level gathering space and fireplace, coffee/tea amenities. Breakfast was generous and absolutely delicious! Everyone was friendly and helpful. The rooms provided supplies (shampoo, condition, tissues) which other Thons did not, and the bathroom space was fabulous - a tub and heated floor! I would come back to Bergen just to stay here again :-)
