Crowne Plaza San Jose La Sabana, an IHG Hotel

Crown Plaza was our last stay of a three week trip through Costa Rica before we flew back the next day. It was perfect exactly for that purpose, I would not pick it for sightseeing in San José. The rooms are spacious, it is a hotel on global level and offers everything you need. We clearly enjoyed to have a well working hot water shower again :-) The pool area is very nice and you can easily spend some time there. There is a beautiful park right around the corner to also spend time. Value for money was clearly given, e.g. compared to the hotel we stayed in when we arrived in San José.

Breakfast is totally overpriced when you compare it to other breakfasts in CR. The buffet offered limited variety and was also not filled up quickly enough. That is not ok for 22$.

Breakfast was really good, a wide selection of fresh food The room upon arrival is pre-cooled, and clean. The hotel has good facilities, and the noise from the main hall didn't penetrate into the rooms. Staff are all friendly and helpful

Checking in takes ages, it is very old school they have smart door locks they could with investment have a no-checkin check in. The last thing I want to be doing after a 15-hour trip is spend 15 minutes standing at the desk waiting for paperwork to be processed. Also, I booked the Avis in-hotel location for a rental car but it was closed for the duration of my stay meaning I had to leave the hotel and make my way to the nearest depot.

The staff was amazing! They sent a van to the airport to pick us up and they were waiting when we stepped out of the airport. The driver (I believe his name was Mr Bradford) was exceptional! On the drive, he told us a lot about Costa Rica, including the traditional meals and he pointed out several spots we might want to visit. The ladies working at the desk were so helpful! They helped us with exchanging money, setting up tours and getting a taxi. The room was very clean and comfortable. Our room was cleaned each day and they even picked up any clothes left out and rolled up our phone cords.

Our dinner at the restaurant in the hotel wasn’t very good. Frozen pizza that was barely cooked.

Breakfast was fantastic. We were quite delayed getting in our room. Luzia jumped in and put us on the club floor which really changed our initial irritated impression. The food was delicious. Restaurants both great

I think the pool needs tropical plants. We also walked around the park which really isn't hotels problem but for tourists that park could and should be beautiful. It was dry, no water in lake and needs flowers and plants. It would be a perk for the hotel.

The front desk staff who assisted me. I asked for a quite room as I am a light sleeper. That didn’t happened. Next day I asked the staff to please give me another room as this room is dedicated to a physical challenge person. He told me he will contact me in my room after 12:00 as that is the check out time. That didn’t happened. At 4:00 pm I went to the reception desk and asked to speak to the manager. I was finally given a decent room. This matter was not handled in a professional manner. I lost a day of comfort that I paid for. Please note that this is the third time I have been in this hotel in the last two months. This in not a IHG standard.

Great Experience at Crowne Plaza. We stayed here only 2 nights at the end of our trip before flying back home. The room was spacious and clean, the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was just as clean. The breakfast was good (note for vegans: it was possible for us to eat the breakfast even with the limited vegan options. We had Gallo pinto, vegetables and potatoes and a lot of fruits. Definitely enough for breakfast). As for the service we received, it was excellent. We asked where we could do a Covid test before our flight and someone came to the hotel, we didn't have to go anywhere. They also organized a free airport shuttle for us. Everything went smoothly.

The only little downside for us is that the restaurant at the hotel had almost no vegetarian/vegan options.

It was really nice having a king bed with nice cozy sheets and a big shower for our last day in Costa Rica. The breakfast was pretty good, the drinks at the bar were good too. There’s a big grocery store right across the street. Walking distance to downtown (for people who like walking) or a few minutes if I’m an Uber. Free airport shuttle!

It’s got kind of a Jail vibe lol- bar food wasn’t very good especially for the price.. I wish the rooms had a mini fridge.

Hotel is big, clean, modern and we'll run. Staff friendly and efficient. Useful help desk at reception gives good advice and will arrange taxis. Hotel food average prices, decent quality. Breakfast absolutely fine. Good general indoor area and outside pool area. Didn't use the gym but it looked clean and equipped. The room was comfortable and clean. Good for a short stay. Note that this is a big modern functional hotel, it has no special local character. From here you can walk to the centre in about 30 minutes. Big park and museum of modern art close by. Local area has not much otherwise.

Hotel was very nice and updated. Staff was super professional and even the General Manager was super professional and came around to speak to everyone.

Breakfast could be a little confusing if you stay on the 6 floor with having to eat on that floor with no menu and very limited food options instead of the bigger breakfast on the first floor.

The staff were very very friendly. Hotel was spotless, room was a nice size, also spotless. Fabulous breakfast buffet with lots of choices. Airport shuttle included. Close to the airport but also a very short taxi ride into San Jose. Ideal for a landing or departure stop.

The only thing i can criticize is the lack of communication about getting a shuttle pick up once I booked the room. I booked via Booking.com and left several messages for the property about picking me up that were never responded to. I eventually had to ask someone at the airport to call them for me. Not sure if that was a booking.com thing or a hotel thing.
