Nuevo Maragato Hotel & Hostel

The staff at Nuevo Maragato were fabulous! My flight was unexpectedly cancelled and they quickly helped me with booking for another night (and at a reduced rate), and helped me the following day with storing luggage and directing me to the bus for the airport. They also had a very decent breakfast that was made for you on the spot. Location was very central and convenient, with a grocery store right below if you needed. Internet overall was very reliable.

There was no "common" space if you needed to do any work (other than the dining room/kitchen area, which was only open 7-9:30am). There was also no hot water, but that seemed to be a recurring thing wherever I went in CR.

The staff are ALWAYS very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty, I really enjoy the coffee. You can’t beat the location, and for the price you get a great stay!

I have stayed here multiple times, this was first time I had to wait for the girl attending the front desk in the evening to arrive and let me leave and again to let me in. It’s never been an issue before, …possible they were short staffed. The guys that work the front desk are always there when you need them, and they are always very helpful and in a great mood.

The hotel has great personnel, super friendly and willing to help you. Unfortunately, I was not able to taste the breakfast as I got a slept, but for what I heard from other visitors, it was great and tasty. Overall, it's a very centric place to stay at, for a nice price as well.

Personally, what I didn't like was that, when taking a bath, the shower water was super cold. I even thought that maybe by playing with the shower handles, but both of them were for cold water. Definitely, my fastest shower ever! Anyway, if you are into cold showers, you won't have an issue with it.

Super friendly staff. We had in contact with 3 different receptionist and all had been very helpful and could speak English. The location is just fantastic bcs you stay in the middle of the city. Of course it not a 5 star hotel but rooms where clean (ceiling a little bit run down-but they started renovations). BF was ok the Costa Rica standard (eggs, beans, toast and fruits, coffee)

Great location, close to all attractions and about 7 blocks from hotel Del Ray(for solo male travelers). Breakfast is very good, comes with fresh fruit & juice. Staff at the front desk speak good English and are always ready to help. Thank you, Luis, Ricardo and the owner Mr Luis for the wonderful time.

The hotel location is very good and just in the central of the city, surrounding is full of restaurant and shops. The museum and national theatre is just 2 minutes walk. The room is quite big and the bed is comfort. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The price is quite cheap. The breakfast is simple, but enough.

The price is relatively economic, the location is very convenient with a lot of shops around, and the bed is comfy.

No shared kitchen to cook but the nearby central market has good and cheap food. The conditions are basic, some lockers r not usable. Anyway, for a few days' stay, it's fine.

Perfect location, wonderful breakfast. We had a room with a balcony overlooking center city. Ricardo was the best. He went out of his way to help and look after my wife when she was traveling alone a few days before I could join her. Highly recommend for your stay in center city San Jose.

Right at the heart of downtown, on the pedestrian street of Avenida Central. Good value for money.

Breakfast service was not good especially for non-Spanish speakers, the person who worked there tend to serve to those that spoke the language first while I was waiting there for nothing.

Daily breakfast and room cleaning by the amazing Senora Rosa. The front door opens up to Avenida Central, the walking street at the heart of downtown, yet it is still quiet enough to relax and sleep. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Wifi is a little spotty in the mixed dorm, but strong in the common area. Common area could be set up a little better for socializing. The kitchen isn't available for guest use.
