Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen

The hotel is beautiful, and has two beautiful pools - one in the jungle and one on the beach. My room was really comfortable, and the staff were all lovely. The Hotel is in the jungle, and the restaurant & beach club are on the other side of the Road which has a big lawn area with lots of seating and a fabulous pool (just for residents) in addition to the beach. There was a sloth mooching about in the tree by the restaurant, and lots of beautiful birds, including a toucan, to watch. I had a really nice massage in the jungle spa, and went on a tour with 'Jungle Man' to the indigenous village, BriBri, where we learned about Chocolate making and got an interesting insight into how the indigenous community use the jungle plants for medicinal and culinary purposes. The tour also includes a swim in the BriBri Waterfalls - all in all a great day out - I highly recommend it.

The restaurant is in a beautiful spot, but the food was underwhelming and overpriced. They made a really disappointing Pina Colada, and wouldn't sell wine by the glass.....it was a bottle (over priced) or nothing. There are a couple of good local restaurants so we went there instead - I highly recommend Bamboocha, La Nena and Restaurant Rio Negro, all within walking distance (towards Puerto Viejo) and all making fabulous food and cocktails.

Aesthetically beautiful during the day and especially at night, I loved the layout and the old world charm of the hotel. The hospitality was exemplary. All staff members were friendly and accommodating.

As an international business traveler, I did not like “the upsell” at check-in: “for $30 more per night, I could offer you a room with a better view”. It was off-putting. I would have had a better first impression if I had been offered a complimentary upgrade which is customary in world-class hotels. I was also disappointed that the hotel did not have a restaurant that offered Costa Rican cuisine. I don’t like ordering fish and chicken from a steakhouse. The chicken was way undercooked. The potatoes had no truffle oil as promised on the menu.

it is close to the airport. it is beautiful and has many restaurants to choose from. the pool area is clean and has very beautiful gardens. I love the jacuzzi large enough and clean.

Service can be slow when big groups are eating at the restaurants. employees can be too friendly, which makes it annoying. You will pay almost $300 a night with taxes, and it should include breakfast, as it was included in every other hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica. Also, breakfast should not be $25 per person. I believe this is too high for a South American country where tropical fruit is abundant. The airport shuttle leaves every two hours, DO NOT take the taxi at the hotel, which will charge you a lot of money. Uber is available in Costa Rica, and it is much cheaper.

we were sold an upgrade w dinner and breakfast service in the “executive Lounge” which was more like free meals at a holiday inn. don’t take it. the dollar conversion rate is favorable and you can get other on site options that are real good for a similar cost. it looks like the lounge works for families who need fast food for kids etc

I really enjoyed the facilities they had such as the gym in particular it was very clean and had great equipment for when your on vacation.

I couldn't say I didn't like anything. I was pretty much satisfied with my whole experience. Maybe the one thing I would say is there could be earlier check in times but other than that great facility.

Excellent hotel that's close to the airport, comfortable, clean with great restaurants

Do NOT take the 'up sell' of the 'Executive Lounge'. It was horrible. It was a room with snacks and buffet at mealtimes. Not appealing at all, kids touching everything and not the healthiest of snacks. We asked for our money back and got it with slight push back. I asked about the menu at the time of the 'up sell' and was told it's very good and aligned with their restaurants. One visit to the lounge was all we needed to see that wasn't accurate at all.

Everyone was extremely helpful. The cooking class was a wonderful, interactive, unexpected surprise. The front desk sent staff immediately when we needed help with the safe & when we needed any items. The variety & number of restaurants was great. Not to mention the respect & integration of local culture. The pools, hot tub, garden & lush-green, well kept grounds created an extremely peaceful & tranquil environment.

The pool was freezing, but nice and big. Really enjoyed the pool. The restaurant food was excellent the first night ordering from the menu. The quinoa was delicious as was the steak. The room was comfortable. The morning buffet was ok. Nice that there was a coffee machine to get mocha. The New Year's Eve show was pretty.

The night buffet on New Year's Eve was overall pretty awful. Nothing tasted good. There was a weird sweet sauce on the fish. The veggies were tough. The rice was hard. The pork was tough. The desserts were terrible, all of them. The quinoa was tasteless although the night before on the menu it was delicious. Buffets are hard, and usually pretty awful. But for this fancy hotel, it was really a sorry thing. And terribly overpriced. The queen beds are double size by the way, not queen.

This hotel is beautiful. It is grand and elegant with an almost old-world sort of charm. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and cared for. We had delicious meals, great wine, and also took time to enjoy the pool. The birds that were flying overhead, and having quite intense conversations, mesmerized us at times. Amazing to have so much wildlife even while close to the city and airport. We really appreciated the impeccable Covid-19 testing arrangements that were made available to us. Since we are heading back to the US after a month of traveling all over Costa Rica, we weren’t looking forward to dealing with the logistics that go along with getting a test and documentation. The hotel and the partner lab made it seamless. A perfect stay in every way.

We stayed 2 times during our trip to Costa Rica, first between traveling from one end of the country to the other, and on our last day/night in San Jose before departing home. It was a great place to be as a rest stop before departing home after a rather active vacation. More like a resort than just a hotel, lots of amenities, great pools, so if you want to just relax, it is ideal. It is also close to the airport so easy if you are just landing in San Jose or on the way out in terms of convenience. There were also lots of good choices of restaurants in the hotel.
