My sister and I had a great one-week stay at the Cartwright Hotel. The hotel has a historic charm and the rooms were clean and tidy with all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. It is in close proximity to attractions and public transportation, and within walking distance to many places. Having a 7-Eleven and Walgreens across the street was very convenient. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. A special shout-out to Mr. Edward, with whom we had some engaging conversations. He took the time to answer all our questions and shared some very helpful tips—much appreciated! We highly recommend this hotel.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed here. I really love the boutique feel and the charm. The staff was exceptionally friendly. The queen room was small as expected, but still quite comfortable. The room had huge windows with good privacy and blackout shades, and great bedside lighting. The linens were high quality and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was small but nicely updated. They did a good job of maximizing the space. The closet was huge and had a desk/dressing table with vanity lighting!! It added a lot of extra space and functionality for a small room. The ceiling fan was a surprise bonus for a hotel. The location can't be beat. One block from Union Square, lots of good restaurants and bar options nearby, Starbucks on the corner, liquor store next door, cable car stop around the corner and only 3 blocks from a BART station. We were traveling with 2 small dogs and the grassy area at Union Square was ideal! It looks like there used to be a cocktail bar behind the check-in desk that was no longer in use. A happy hour and/or ability to grab a glass of wine would have been a nice addition.
Our second room with 2 twin beds was too small. Same positive comments above re: nice bathroom and comfortable bed, but without the large closet. Basically too small for 2 people and 2 small dogs.

It’s an interesting vintage hotel just in the heart of San Francisco, few steps from Union Square. In a walking distance there are many shops, cafes; bars and restaurants. Hotel is close to public transport: cable car, newly open metro, buses and trams. Room is spacious and has all the needed equipment: Americano coffee machine, toiletries, iron. The building looks really nice and inside you can feel the vibe of old San Francisco, it’s kinda vintage but definitely it has a soul. The hotel offers discount to the public parking which is expensive but comparing to other places in SF not so bad (other places ask you 10$ for one hour). Parking is a tourist attraction itself due to crazy parking guys running and screaming helping to navigate and find a place. You can leave any time but the parking closes for the night due to security reasons. Hotel staff is really nice and helpful, ready to answer all the questions, check in and check out without any challenges.
The disadvantages are known in advance so no surprise. In my room there was no AC, instead there was a hanging fan. For a person with my height it looked like a scary gilotine flying over my head. Also, the hotel does not offer breakfast and does not have any restaurant. It’s not a big deal taking into consideration location and plenty of local cafes and bars just around the corner.

First of all, a very good value for San Francisco. (For the price, the place was better than expected). Centrally located (near Union Square). The rooms (we stayed twice during visit) were comfortable, clean, relatively quiet (both times on the 8th -- top -- floor). Lots of hot water in the shower. Some space to store luggage and hang clothes (more space in the first room than the second). Friendly, accomodating staff. Coffee and hot water in the morning in the lobby. Also, water to fill up your water bottles. Nice common space for hanging out on the lobby level. We recommend the place.
Each room had it's own coffee maker. In our first room it didn't work. We asked for it to be replaced and it didn't seem to be. It wasn't a big deal -- you can get coffee in the morning on the lobby level. Other than that we have no complaints. We enjoyed our stay and would happy to stay next time we visit San Francisco.

The location is very good, close to public transportation and to nice restaurants, grocery stores etc. the room was clean, it had a comfortable bed and a good shower. The hotel doesn't have parking on its own, but it offers parking at a reduced price, which was the cheepest I could find. The room looks small, but it contains everything you need, including a small closet room and a ceiling fan (an addition to an a.c). The leightning in the room was really good and the room was quite at night.
I didn't like that the room didn't come with a refrigerator as a built in, and I paid extra money for us to have one in the room. It's basic to have a small one in the room... The hotel has only one elevator and some time you need to wait alot for it to be free.

The location was excellent as it was near muni, Bart and the tram. It is an old art deco building and as a solo traveller I felt completely safe. The staff were exceptional and very helpful. Edward was outstanding as he advised me on the best bus route 30 to the presidio area. He was very funny and knowledgeable about the city and went out of his way to help. The hotel was within walking distance to Powell street station and the ferry building. It was close to sfmoma as well which had fantastic exhibitions on.
It was all good.

I would stay here again. I stayed on the fifth floor of the building and I didn't hear that much noise from the street below. The hotel's morning coffee was pretty good. I loved the hotel's historic aesthetic. It was fascinating to look at early 20th century photos of the surrounding area. The vintage themed furniture also helped. This was perfect for the in-person Call of Cthulhu game I ran in the hotel's lobby. I smile remembering how well my friends role-played that evening.
The bathroom is a little larger than a closet and there was no fridge in the room. This didn't bother me because I spent most of my time exploring the city.

Lobby has warm lighting and a pleasant smell. The receptionists are friendly and helpful, and the room was nicely modern. Bathroom has glass wall showers with good water pressure, and we had a separate room with a large mirror and counter for getting ready. Lots of outlets in the room and good privacy!
Exceptional value for the price but keep in mind your room may not include a mini fridge and microwave. The microwave is available to use downstairs, and the fridge can be placed in your room for $5/day or you can ask to use the staff fridge.

We stayed 4 days and 3 nights at this hotel and it was great. It was in a good location downtown and near MUNI stops as well so it was easy to navigate SF even with just public transportation. There’s also a 7/11 and a Walgreens nearby, and I think there was a newly opened shawarma place right across as well (their food was delicious). The hotel staff were super helpful and kind and they answered all of my questions and assisted with any requests. Our luggage was kept safe before and after the checkout so we got to explore SF more. There’s still some renovations going on in the hotel but it was fine. The room does look a bit outdated, but it was still good. Although you can hear some sounds from the other rooms and the hallway especially if they’re loud, but still, it was fine. We encountered maybe 2-3 homeless people around the vicinity of the hotel, but it was alright. Will definitely stay here again.
The property was okay, although as I’ve mentioned there were still renovations going on. But otherwise, it was fine.

This place exceeded my expectations. It's an old building that's been renovated so it has some nicer old style features and a fair amount of upgraded features as well. The lobby and relaxing areas on the ground floor were quite nice and my room had everything I needed and quite a bit more. Soaps, hairdryer, iron, lots of storage, coffee/tea, blankets, all that stuff was in the room and to be honest, I didn't expect it. I would totally stay here again for a work trip when I'm paying the bill.
