Room was clean, towels refreshed daily, friendly and very helpful staff including the housekeeping personnel, location

We didn't like the smell of the shampoo, conditioner, body wash. The hand soap was also too difficult to rinse off. The sink did not drain well. We appreciate the complimentary breakfast but the food was bad - Bacon was cold and dry, scrambled egg was obviously microwaved, waffle was too fluffy. Most disappointing experience was that the service staff chased us for tips when he didn't even hand us the black folder for the tip.

this is a well situated hotel in the Union Square district close to numerous bars and restaurants serving a variety of food. We were able to pull up outside the hotel to unload our luggage, which was great as parking on site was not available, but, there is parking at numerous locations within a block. With easy access the historic cable cars running along Powell Street to Fisherman’s Wharf and California to the Embarcadero it was a no brainier for us to purchase a 3 day MUNI pass, using the Muni App, for $31 dollars per person. With this we were able to travel, via historic cable cars, trams and buses, to all parts of the city quickly and easily, all included in the price. Considering that a single trip on an historic cable car can cost $8 this is amazing value. The hotel is full of dedications to people that have served in the US Marine Corps. You cannot help reading about the sacrifices that have been made and sympathise with their families. It is very humbling and makes you feel grateful for the freedom we have and appreciative of those that have sacrificed their lives. The hotel itself is well maintained, the rooms are tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, towels and bed linen crisp and white. You have a choice of room service at check in, i.e service the room on request or every day. We chose every day and this was carried out to our complete satisfaction. The happy hour, between 4-6pm was a great touch. All drinks were free of charge, (beer, wine and spirits), but, the best thing was that you were able to mix with other guests and discuss your day / experiences. We found this a great opportunity to gain perspectives and views from other nationalities. It was a great learning process. All the staff, from those cleaning your rooms to reception and concierge, were courteous and friendly at all times. They really made us feel at home.

Really great location, short walk to Union Sq for transport across the city, short walk to Chinatown, at the bottom of Nob Hill, cable car stop is super close. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Rooms were large and clean. Bed was extremely comfortable, best out of our 3 week trip. Breakfast and happy hour included, we didn't make use of happy hour, breakfast was good, but as a European it felt very 'American'.

Some lighter options at breakfast.

Everything about this property is excellent. Their care to detail is obvious. I have reviewed this property before and liked the hotel so much I stayed there again. This time in my review I feel I should focus on the dining aspect of the property. This hotel features a dining room on the 12th floor with a complete view of the San Fran. They offer a free breakfast that has 6 choices on a menu for breakfast including drinks, they offer Happy Hour free drinks, and a small bites menu and amazingly enough they have a Dinner menu that is average priced, however the food is way above average. The dining room has comfortable chairs, that wonderful view of the City and Bay and great food. I was honestly perplexed as to why more people do not take advantage of this restaurant! The name is Chesty’s. Non guests are allowed to eat there as well and I would encourage anyone who visits San Francisco to check this place out! I’m attaching photos of a couple of the breakfast items they offer, sorry forgot to take a photo of my dinner plate but you’ll have to go and try it out and wait for the surprise! The photos don’t have the appropriate titles but I wanted to show pics of food and view.

Happy hour and breakfast buffet on the top floor was extraordinary! (Also, contrary to reviews I have previously read, while you are presented with the opportunity to tip, I felt absolutely NO pressure to. Which makes me more inclined to do so, by the way). I have read previous reviews that lamented old and loud elevators. An upgrade has now completely modernized them, and they are great. If you are into military history and/or appreciate the sacrifices made by those in our Armed Services, this place is an absolute gem... from the library, to the Memorial Hall, to even each guest room floor, you could spend all day exploring the hotel. If you are looking to stay downtown, this place is only a block away from Union Square and the cable car line.

No parking included, but the arrangement with a valet parking garage one block down makes it relatively painless. They will just charge it to your room. Like most downtown spots it is an older building. (Although it seems much care has gone into maintaining and upgrading as much a possible). The advertised lap pool appears to be defunct.

The hotel is in a great location to explore the city with public transport links close by. We stayed in room 512, they were spacious and clean rooms with everything you need including a safety deposit box. The beds are huge and incredibly comfortable. What was an added bonus was the daily happy hour from 4 until 6pm, where hotel guests can have complimentary beer, and selected wine and spirits. We took advantage of this throughout our stay. The breakfast has a good variety and it all tasted good, it was a buffet but they also provide table service. There is a good daily maid service and the WiFi speed worked well also. The staff on front desk were really friendly and on a couple of occasions gave us some smaller currency notes which was so handy. We paid £525 for 3 nights which I feel was very reasonably priced. I really don’t have anything bad to say about this hotel!

The bathroom was quite basic and could maybe do with a refurb.

Breakfast was always the same and options were limited, but enough for a 2 day stay. The view was really nice. The value for the money was really good, even when you add on the parking cost. The food in the restaurant on the 12th floor is alright but slightly overpriced, but you pay for the view as well. If you want to do laundry there is both washer and dryer on thre 4th and 6th floor, you get detergent in the reception. I really enjoyed that this also serves as a place of memory of Marines, and when you walk in and out of your room, you read the stories of the men on the pictures and it does work better then any museum or memorial hall, because it is embedded in the fabric of the hotel corridors. The posters, the pictures, the artifacts make it a place with character.

I did not like during a self service breakfast that you get handed a voluntary service fee bill (tip) for the waiter. Well the vallet parking is extra paid, few buildings away and it takes quite a few minutes to get your car.

Great location! Malls are a short walk away, Chinatown is do-able if you don't go up the hill first. Lots of great restaurants in the area! The staff here are so friendly and helpful. The concierge service was my savior on my last day (otherwise I would be dragging luggage around for 6 hours). The breakfast was amazing, unfortunately I was only able to catch it once as it ended a little too early for me.

The bathroom was extremely small. You cannot close the door easily, there's barely enough counter space for one person. Not aesthetic. The decor is quite dated and the room is not utilized optimally. The fridge was broken.

We attended an event that was held on a upper floor ballroom of the hotel. Having a room so conveniently located to the event was priceless. Room was spacious and clean. Adjusting the heat didn't seem to work at first - just needed a bit of patience to wait for it to respond.

The TV set came on but it did not connect to the network. Called the front desk for assistance but only got a recording to leave a message - which was not returned. Called the desk additional times until I got a real person. That person offered a suggestion to try and call back if unsuccessful (which was the case). Called the front desk back and once again got the recording to leave a message. And once again my message was not returned. I did not have any more time to keep trying the front desk to reach a real person before leaving for the evening. The TV situation was never resolved.

The beds were very comfortable with just the right weight of blankets. We didn't have to run the climate control at all. The room was very quiet, which is a luxury in most any hotel, but especially around Union Square! The elevators were wonderfully easy to use and delightfully quiet.

Drop off was horrible. Although there is a "loading zone" in front, cars were parked there for more than 20 minutes so we could not unload there. There was no hotel staff outside even for us to interact with; the staff which oversees the entry area stays at a desk well inside the lobby. But even more important there was zero safe place for my disabled family member, in a wheelchair, to safely exit the car. We see there is no parking at any time on the Mason St. side of the hotel, but that would be a perfect location for safe unloading of disabled guests. We hope the property owners improve this situation.
