Als je denkt dat de Dallas Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), die zeven county's omvat, 5,6 miljoen inwoners telt en 5.277 vierkante mijl beslaat, een uitstekende plek is om op vakantie te gaan, dan heb je helemaal gelijk. Hoewel er terecht veel superlatieven worden toegekend aan de Fort Worth-kant van het DFW Metroplex, met tweederde van de bevolking aan de Dallas-kant (oost), zijn er hier zoveel ongelooflijke attracties dat we aanraden om, indien mogelijk, een dag of twee aan je reisprogramma toe te voegen.
Dallas, een bestemming van wereldklasse, is een culturele hotspot met gerenommeerde musea, twee levendige kunstdistricten, bijna 4000 eetgelegenheden binnen de stadsgrenzen en nog eens duizenden in de buitenwijken, professioneel hockey en basketbal in de stad en andere grote sporten in de buurt, ongeëvenaard winkelen en een nachtleven dat tot in de kleine uurtjes doorgaat. De onderstaande musea zijn vooral aantrekkelijk voor volwassenen, hoewel tieners zich ook aangetrokken kunnen voelen tot bepaalde faciliteiten die gespecialiseerd zijn in onderwerpen die hen interesseren.
- Dallas Museum of Art](https://www.dma.org/) (Downtown Arts District) - DMA is een van de belangrijkste kunstmusea in de VS met een wereldwijde collectie van meer dan 5000 jaar mensheid. - NHL Dallas Stars](https://www.nhl.com/stars/) (Downtown Dallas) - Snel professioneel ijshockey in het American Airlines Center. Het NHL-seizoen loopt van begin oktober tot de play-offs die begin juni eindigen. De Stars spelen 41 thuiswedstrijden in het reguliere seizoen.
- NBA Dallas Mavericks](https://www.nba.com/mavs) (Downtown Dallas) - Het American Airlines Center is ook de thuisbasis voor professioneel basketbal van eind oktober tot de play-offs die begin juni eindigen. De Mavs spelen 41 reguliere thuiswedstrijden.
- MLB Texas Rangers](https://www.mlb.com/rangers) (Arlington) - Technisch gezien ligt Arlington in Tarrant County, wat wordt beschouwd als Ft. Worth, maar het ligt dicht genoeg bij Dallas voor honkbalfans om een korte rit te maken voor een honkbalwedstrijd. De Rangers spelen 81 reguliere thuiswedstrijden van begin april tot eind september. De MLB play-offs vinden plaats in oktober.
- NFL Dallas Cowboys](https://www.dallascowboys.com/) - De Cowboys speelden hun thuiswedstrijden in de Dallas buitenwijk Irving, maar zijn nu verhuisd naar Arlington. Plan een rondje golf tijdens je verblijf in Dallas
Nu de PGA Championship Tour voor mannen gepland staat om Field Ranch East in Frisco in mei 2027 aan te doen, is golf misschien al in je gedachten, hoewel het nog wat vroeg is om te plannen om de wedstrijd van volgend jaar bij te wonen. In de tussentijd zijn er verschillende aantrekkelijke en betaalbare lokale banen die open zijn voor het publiek, waaronder Tension Park Golf Club, die twee 18-holes kampioenschapsbanen biedt op slechts 10 minuten ten oosten van het centrum. Stevens Park Golf Course is nog zo'n uitstekende golfbaan binnen de stadsgrenzen en biedt een prachtig uitzicht op de skyline waar golfers van kunnen genieten. Als je dichter bij D/FW Airport verblijft of in het Mid-Cities Area ten westen van Dallas, kun je overwegen om een rondje te spelen op de Irving Golf Club, die gunstig gelegen is tussen Irving en het centrum van Dallas. De 18-holes, par 71 openbare baan ligt langs de westelijke vork van de Trinity River, met uitzicht op het centrum van Dallas vanaf verschillende punten langs de baan.

Yes, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is a sprawling region of North Texas that can be overwhelming, especially for first-time visitors, but Dallas alone is quite compact, making access to major venues simple. In fact, many downtown sites are walkable if you are attending a show at the Winspear Opera House or Meyerson Symphony Center or touring the Dallas Museum of Art and adjacent Nasher Sculpture Center. That’s why staying downtown is a good option here. Of course, if you prefer a more suburban feel, along the LBJ Freeway in North Dallas may be more to your liking.
No matter where you choose to stay, if you can avoid rush hour, getting around by car is quite doable. Dallas offers a big-city experience along with down-home Texas friendliness. Culture, sports, live entertainment, and shopping are all world-class here. And be sure to find some amazing Texas barbecue while you’re in town.
