Hotel La Semilla, Playa del Carmen, a Member of Design Hotels

The hotel as a lot of charm, the garden is beautiful, a real oasis. Breakfast is wonderful. Location is great, walking distance to everything. Beach is 2 minutes down the street. Chairs and umbrellas available for a fee. A lot of restaurants walking distance. Located on the nicest street of Playa del Carmen, big mature trees all along the street.

Internet is very slow. Good to know that there is only 3 parking spaces available on the base of first come first serve. The downside of the good location is the noise, restaurant right beside opens early and closes late at night. Depending on the room you reserved, water pressure can be an issue.

The location is great if you want easy access to 5ta Avenida. The aesthetics and space are lovely, very peaceful and we loved the jungle vibes. The staff is super friendly and polite. I appreciate the minimalist and eco-friendly approach. Beach towels were easy to access and the one day we had breakfast it was good. We had a simple room and served its purpose during our stay.

You have to let them know if you’ll be out late so you don’t get locked out & one of the nights we we had to wait +20 mins for someone to open; I do appreciate the security, but maybe guests should get key access to the main door. The WiFi doesn’t work great & there’s not a lot cellular reception, I work remotely so this was a challenge. There was no mirror in our room, and I would have loved to see bigger reusable amenities in the bathroom rather than the throw away ones, this would go in hand with the whole concept. No hair dryer, slippers, robes, no problem for us but might be for others.

The location, food, service, and overall style of this hotel is unmatched. We loved our stay! At one point I realized that I had neglected to print an important document and the staff went above and beyond to contact another local business to help me with printing at no cost because the hotel itself did not have a printer. And, as everyone else has already mentioned in other reviews, THE BREAKFAST!!! It was absolutely to die for each and every morning.

This hotel is not trying to be a five-star resort and we liked that. However, this does mean that the amenities are limited, for instance there was no hair dryer in the bathroom and the mattress was on the firm side. Contrary to other reviews, we found that the noise from the Avenida was not bad at all (perhaps because we are city people?). The main drawback we found was that the plumbing cannot handle toilet tissue, so all toilet tissue needed to be disposed into the trashcan. Apparently this is very common for the area however.

Loved everything about La Semilla. the staff are simply fantastic. Location on 38th is gorgeous and with many very good dining option steps from the front door, is as convenient as you can get. Also just a couple short blocks to the Beach. its quiet yet walking distance to all the action on Ave Quinta. During these dates we stayed in the Suite Rm 9 which has great natural light while being wrapped in green foliage from outside. the protected jungle area at the back of the property and the internal garden give this place a serene magical feel. The chefs make a great breakfast which changes daily. I could go on but this boutique hidden gem with its 9 rooms is one of our favorite stays in all our travels.

Truly the best breakfast we had in Playa del Carmen, prepared by Gabriel every morning. Pleasant decor with good size room. Comfortable bed. Good wifi connection. Alejandro at the front desk recommended a great Argentinian restaurant and overall helped us with every inquiry/question we had. Small, but unique and tranquil breakfast area. And pretty good wine offered to us nightly at the reception.

A beautiful jungle paradise, so close to shops and the beach but when you are inside you feel a million miles away from the bustling town! The room was spacious, clean and had a lovely design. The breakfast was amazing, with Gabriel the chef cooking up amazing Mexican inspired breakfast with a modern twist alongside fresh juices, fruit and great coffee. The owners and staff were so friendly and would recommend anyone to stay here if they want to be transported to an idyllic oasis moments from the beach.

Breakfast was fantastic, a delicious fruit platter followed by a homemade hot dish such as burritos, empanadas or an omelette. Fresh fruit juice and a plant filled tranquil terrace make it the perfect start to the day. All of the staff are very helpful, friendly and make you feel welcome and comfortable. I'd highly recommend staying here. There's a huge selection of places to eat nearby, plus the beach is walking distance so everything is nearby.

What a gem!! So beautiful inside!! The decor and garden - breathtaking, and the breakfast (chef made) was amazing. This is my go to now for Playa, and on the most beautiful tree lined street there, close to all the best restaurants (Trujillos), beach clubs (Mamita’s!!), bars and the disco district. I have been to Playa about 15-20 times. Walkable too from the Ado bus depot from Cancun International Airport.

All of the staff were really lovely - Brito in particular as he checked us in, booked an airport transfer for us and often was serving us at breakfast. Chef Gabriel was brilliant and we always looked forward to what he was going to cook for the hot breakfast. The location was ideal, Calle 38 itself is a beautiful road due to all the trees. 5 mins from the beach so easy if you want to watch the sunrise (I recommend this!). The garden was so peaceful and because it’s a boutique hotel, we often had the space to ourselves. The candles were a nice touch and added to the hotel vibe, we loved the hotel design too. Everything had clearly been thought through, it was the perfect stay.

The only downside is because it’s next door to a restaurant, if you’re not staying up late it can be a little loud. However this only disturbed us on one night in particular so I wouldn’t let it get in the way of booking a stay at La Semilla.

Great location - close to beach and restaurants. Helpful and friendly staff. Free but limited parking-only a few spaces. Nice patio off of room with private entrance.

Room was on the first floor and there was a lot of noise (water running, main entrance, people going and up and down stairs, locks, etc) Bathroom was a little outdated but bedroom area was lovely and large.
