We absolutely adored this apartment and our o ly regret is we didnt spend longer here, we only booked 1 night in Lucca as part of our Italy trip. The bed was so comfortable, the apartment was well equipped with everything one could need for a long term stay. Courtyard and gardens absolutely beautiful, lovely and quiet, had such a peaceful nights sleep. The reception area having free tea/coffee/water was a massive bonus. Room was ready before expected check in time. Location extremely central yet still a quiet and peaceful location. Would highly recommend.

What ignorant reviewers identify as “run down” I identify as MAJESTIC! The building and surrounding properties were built in the 1500’s! The property is lush with vegetation. The location is centralized within the walled city of Lucca. We had an easy 15 minute walk from the train station to our property. Literally restaurants and shopping within 2 minutes outside our property. Our room was spacious, the water pressure was excellent and our terrace led right out to the garden. This location and staff were a sanctuary for us.

Only select rooms had air conditioning but we managed just fine with fans.

The place is super charming, it feels like you've traveled back in time. The apartment I stayed in was large, but typical of an old building with a large central hallway. There is a garden with chairs that is extremely pleasant. Although they don't serve breakfast, they have a coffee machine, water and Lotus cookies available for free. The bathroom had also been renovated and was very clean.

There aren't many negatives that aren't obvious from the photos. It's exactly as you'd expect. For the price, I expected something a little more luxurious and with newer furniture. The staff wasn't rude, but they only spoke Italian and weren't as friendly as in other places in Italy.

The place has lots of character! Once you go through the massive front door you enter a century old domed courtyard, surrounded by numerous rooms and apartments. A number of them constitute Corte Meraviglia, the remainder are privately owned and occupied. There is an extensive garden with lots of different seating arrangements, very pleasant. We had apartment 6, a two bedroom ground floor apartment with its own outdoor seating right out of the kitchen French doors. The beds were very comfortable, beautiful quality bed linen and the bathroom was quite large (though it takes a little while for the hot water to come through). The kitchen had almost enough basics to get you going but could do with an inventory check and a bit of an update. Staff were very friendly and guests can make themselves a coffee in the reception from 8am till 11pm.

Dishwasher wasn’t working which didn’t bother us (we rather wash a small quantity by hand) but there wasn’t a plug for the sink nor tea towels.

We recently stayed here and were genuinely impressed by the authentic Italian charm of the accommodation. The ground floor courtyard was beautiful – very traditional and full of character. It was lovely having access to the gardens as well; perfect for sitting out and enjoying a peaceful moment during the day. Our room was comfortable, bright, and had a lot of personality. The ceiling fan kept the temperature pleasant, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and featured a lovely walk-in shower, which added a nice modern touch. The staff were helpful and friendly, even giving us a map of the town when we arrived – a thoughtful gesture that we appreciated. The location is fantastic, ideal for exploring the local area and soaking up the Italian atmosphere. Overall, though, this place has a lot of charm and offers a truly authentic Italian experience. If the WiFi and coffee facilities were improved, it would be an easy five stars.

However, there were a couple of downsides. The WiFi never worked during our stay – we tried several times using the different passwords and network connections provided, but none of them worked in our room. Also, the coffee machine was in need of a good clean – it was unfortunately too dirty for us to feel comfortable using it.

Beautiful charming/rustic property, well located in the heart of Lucca - great location and price point. Staff were friendly, helpful and professional with people on the desk in the day time. Complementary coffees, water and potential to eat outside all big pluses as those little expenses add up on a city break. Wifi lapsed one evening but apparently this was an issue in the area, not just the property. Sofa bed less comfortable than other bed but that is to be expected.

Shower ran cold once or twice.

Traditional old building in fantastic city centre location just round the corner from Piazza Antifeatro. OK - so maybe not the most up to date decor but super traditional and authentic experience. Extremely helpful and hospitable host. The spacious back garden with tables and chairs was a delight- perfect for our morning cup of tea before exploring this beautiful city... and again to chill out after a busy day. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

This is a superb historic building with something as close to a very ancient home idea (courtyard with garden behind, like some Roman layouts) as you will find still standing. If wanting a historic experience, this should be a great contender. Generous space for a very good rate, fridge and freezer most useful. Very close to Lucca's most lauded sights.

There are a few things you may need to be prepared for: everything echoes, from doors and water flow, to bird calls in the garden in early hours. Town noise, however, was not a problem (with windows closed). The bathroom became easily damp and this would lead to a slippy floor. Hot water could also be hit and miss. Occasionally reminded of living in student halls where it can only help to go with the flow of the slightly eccentric ways your quarters set for you.

The hotel was in a great location in the historic part of Lucca. We were only there for a short while, so we didn't experience the facilities such as the terrace accessed from our room or the shared garden but both looked lovely. The room we booked had a room with a double bed, a small room with a single bed and a separate shower room which was great. We had a taxi booked to take us to the airport in the morning but the driver called to say he was stuck in traffic and couldn't come on time. Paolo offered to drive us to the airport and carried our bags into the terminal for us. He also charged less than the taxi fare would have cost.

Some of the decor especially in the single room was very basic. This may be in keeping with the fact that the building is very old but we felt some improvements could be made without compromising the historic nature. However this didn't detract from our enjoyment and the rooms were clean.

The location is excellent. The rooms face a courtyard or a garden rather than the streets, so it was rather quiet. The garden was also beautiful and practical for those who'd like to take short breaks while wandering in the town. The host was also super friendly. The recommendations for restaurants provided were absolutely amazing and helpful.

The Wi-Fi could have been faster, but it is totally okay.
