Summergrove House is an amazing property decorated to a high standard appropriate to the house's era. James is a most gracious host who is a warm and friendly person. He is extremely accommodating and makes a good cup of tea and yummy scones with delicious marmalade :)

To be honest, there wasn't anything I didn't like. My stay was too short, I would have liked to stay longer to explore the house and grounds more.

The property is a beautifully restored Georgian house. Very comfortable, warm and relaxing. James was an exceptional host who made us feel very welcome. James set a lovely fire in the sitting room for us and served tea, cake and wine. We spent the evening by the fire, chatting and reading. The bedrooms are beautiful, warm and very quiet. The en suite bathroom was large, clean and all the mod cons. We got a great night's sleep. Breakfast was excellent, both in terms of quality and as much food as you could want. Some of the highlights from breakfast include fresh eggs from the property, homemade bread, scones and marmalade.

Looking forward to returning in spring, in better weather, to explore the surrounding areas and Slieve Bloom mountains.

"Stay at a friends home." I was given a very hospitable welcome. James offered me tea as soon as I arrived. In the evening there was even a glass of wine. I was invited to stay in the living room or walk through the garden. There was always time for short conversations, which made my stay more pleasant. James prepared breakfast directly in the morning. The Irish breakfast was arranged according to my taste. For me there was freshly brewed coffee, orange juice, fruit, cereals, toast, beans and a selection of meats. The accommodation really looks like the pictures! If you like the style of an old country house, this is the place for you. Everything has been lovingly renovated to a high standard. The heating and the bathroom with shower were up to date but adapted to the style. All in all, highly recommended. I am glad that I found this accommodation.

I highly recommend Summergrove House. This place is spectacular. I wish we had stayed 2 nights. James was wonderful and very passionate about the house. I think he did most of the restoration himself and it appears he runs the place himself. It was really a special experience. The house is beautifully furnished and the grounds are big, lush, and green. James cooked us our breakfast while we all sat in the kitchen at a big table. He greeted us on the front steps and had drinks ready in the drawing room. We had a 2 room suite and it was over the top fun to stay in them! I would stay here again any day.

I wish we had stayed another night!

We had such a fantastic stay at Summergrove House, what a beautiful property steeped in history! Owner and host James was a pleasure from start to finish and so accommodating in every way. We stayed for Electric Picnic weekend and enjoyed a great breakfast each morning and drinks in the afternoon before heading into the festival which was approx. 25 minutes away. It was great to get to know James over a glass of wine and hear about his home and extensive collection of antiques. We will definitely be returning next year if not sooner.

Everything. What a beautiful place. As a well travelled man for work, this place is truly exceptional. As far from the usual generic soulless style of the big chains as is possible to get. The wonderful host James's warmth and charm was a real treat. Great company. The room was simply magnificent. Attention to detail second to none. Fell asleep immediately in comfortable bed. Beautiful " hidden" bathroom. Great shower. Breakfast cooked to order by James. While I sat drinking tea. I fell in love with this old house. Anybody would! I'll be back with my family soon.

The house is gorgeous and very special - clearly a labour of love for James. You feel like a privileged guest in a Jane Austen novel. Each room is unique and decorated with an eclectic mix of antiques. Highlights for us were getting a tour of the home and all its beautifully restored Georgian details and having an impromptu wine and cheese evening in the living room with James and the other guests. Wish we could have spent more than one night.

Could have done with an identifying sign on the front gate and napkins but managed fine without :)

This is by far the best b&b (hotels included), I have ever had the pleasure to stay at. The pictures don't do it justice. The description does not do it justice. My review won't do it justice either ;-) Upon entering James' home, you are teleported back in time. The decor, furniture, down to every little thoughtful detail makes you believe you find yourself in the 18th century. It is impossible to imagine the work and love James put into the restoration of his home. Sitting in the drawing room by the fire in the evenings, either with a book or in conversation with James and other guests, surrounded by so much history, will make you feel truly humbled. And probably the most relaxed you have ever been ;-) Go for it. You will only regret not having seen this absolutely stunning place!

Wanted to stay in an historic house and this was perfect for us. Beautiful country setting, amazing host and gorgeous old authentic early 18th century house. We brought charcuterie foods and opted to enjoy cocktails in the drawing room with the other guests instead of going out for dinner. James regaled us with great stories and details about the house. Four guest rooms each unique. Ours had a luxurious deep clawfoot tub. I could easily forego a shower for such fun experience.
