Art Series - The Johnson

They took special care to supply a lovely room satisfying our particular requests for myself and my husband who has arthritis. The room was much nicer than we expected, very spacious, very high ceilings, lovely tall height doors, which opened which we also like, out on to a little balcony. Separate dual vanities in bathroom, with a separate room for the toilet. Wall dispensers for hand and bath wash, shampoo and conditioner. Nice modern kitchen with microwave, cold mini fridge, Nespresso machine supplied with capsules. Individual air con controls. Did not have to empty our own rubbish which is unusual these days. Quiet location, with free circle bus at door which takes you down into the city, the city stop being across from a Woolworths supermarket and Big W store or one stop prior drops you right at Brisbane Central Railway Station. There is a restaurant downstairs on street level below the Johnson and cafes across the street.

Nothing, other than the safe was on the blink. I mentioned this to the reception member on checking out, Zack, who was a very friendly guy and made us feel welcome on arrival. Zack said he would have it repaired immediately. Will stay again.

Room was huge, and so was the bed. The 'view' was of a car park, which wasn't great. But nice to have a balcony at least. Rooms were nice and quiet, as was the whole property. Pool area was nice - although I couldn't see where you could get a pool towel, so we brought the ones from our room. Pool was massive, but FREEZING! I guess that make sense if you're swimming laps - but for the casual swimmer who just wants a comfortable dip, it was a little bracing. Given there's no food service at the hotel, having some kind of 'recommendation' booklet or list of preferred places around the area would have been handy.

The BBC World News channel wasn't working on the TV, but that's probably a Foxtel issue. Pool was lovely, but just too cold to be enjoyable when we stayed. And the 'view' from our room wasn't great - we overlooked a carpark. Very minor gripes though for what was a great place.

The design and decoration is quite artistic; the room is super spacious with different function corners; the linen is extra comfy and the skin products smell gorgeous. The welcoming bar is very thoughtful-coffee machine and tea is high quality with yum biscuits to go with; room service is daily and responsive. The staff were welcoming and prepared a little surprise for my child, thank you! Bus 30 is just in front of the hotel making it convenient to travel to city. The outdoor swimming pool looks wonderful with lots of chair beds to enjoy sunbath.

The swimming pool is not heated-was cold to swim in winter. If there is a sheer curtain, it would make daytime more fun- enjoying sunshine while still keeping privacy.

Loved the nice art, especially the touch of including a small blank canvas in the room to encourage guest creativity. Was thrilled to see a spin bike in the gym! Spacious rooms, friendly staff, included a cute gift for my birthday :) quiet neighbourhood so we could get some sleep at night.

Would have loved the pool to be heated, it was way too cold to use and I booked the hotel so I could do some laps. I also thought the amenities should have been in the room already instead of a “call for delivery to room” approach. If I’ve stripped off for a shower I need my shower cap then and there, I’m not going to call someone and get dressed again to receive it.

The staff were very helpful and gentle. Rooms were spotless when we arrived. Location was great, short distance walking from central station 🚉. There is, also, a bus stop just in front of the hotel. The restaurant downstairs the hotel is a must to do, they serve the sea food straight from the bag to the table. We had breakfast at sisco cafe which was great but there is another restaurant-cafe which has Colombian food, so we had our second breakfast there.

The check-in was a little bit late but as we were not in a rush we went to have lunch and left our luggage at the reception.

Reception and cleaning staff fabulous. Didn't use the pool (not heated and its still cold) but did enjoy the gym every day of my stay. Had an "executive" studio on the 4th floor which was big, comfortable and quiet. Almost directly across the road is the # 30 Spring Hill Loop which takes you down to the CBD, including a stop right outside Central Station ---- which is ideal, otherwise if you aren't driving, you have quite a steep walk up the hill to the hotel. Also, straight across the road is an absolute treasure of a restaurant "Creole Soul Kitchen" which has Southern Classics as well as delicious pizza and pasta.

As there is no restaurant or ice machine and I like ice in my drinks at night, I had to ask for the mini freezer in my mini bar to be defrosted because it was iced completely up and an IceCube tray couldn't fit in it. This was done the day after my arrival and worked really well. The only cleaning issue is that the bottom water seal on the shower cubicle is very mouldy. I don't think it can be cleaned and probably just needs to be replaced ($2 at Bunnings). Otherwise, fabulous....

Overall room was very spacious and bed very comfortable Pool area well furnished and comfortable.

Floors in bathroom very slippery- consider non slip mat particularly in the shower. More hooks in bathroom would be helpful and an accessible mirror outside the bathroom, perhaps a full length one behind the wardrobe door. Bathrobes were not in the room on arrival, although were provided on day 2 after a request. Phone in room was not functioning. Hotel would be enhanced with some form of on - site cafe, due to limited other facilities close by.

Staff were lovely and helpful. Very spacious room, beautiful decor, super clean. There so many power points - very convenient! Usually it's an absolute mission trying to find somewhere to plug in your devices in other hotels. Kitchen was well equipped (we didn't even realise there would be one). Bathroom was clean, large and the toiletries had the most gorgeous fragrance. Pool area looked beautiful but we didn't have time to use it. Very close to IGA. Will be staying here again and recommending to my friends!

If there were a restaurant or cafe within the hotel it would have made this place the perfect stay. Not a big deal though as there is a Kickin Inn right outside and a couple of cafes down the street.

Size of the room for 2 people was excellent and exceeded expectations. The room was comfortable and clean and we had a really good sleep. Check-in and Check-out process was easy and positive.

Not being from the area, I wasn't sure where to park before I checked-in so had to drive around to find somewhere on the street. Once I checked-in, I was able to pay for a car park but it would have been helpful to know where to park before this.

Good location, short stroll (10-15 min walk) from CBD, check-in was smooth and the room was very spacious, clean and had all amenities including good size kitchen, full size fridge and double vanities in the bathroom. We loved spending time by the pool..

Beds were on the softer side but still comfy, I wish they had streaming options or at least a way to mirror your device to the TV.. Regardless, there were some Foxtel channels to keep us entertained. Front desk staff were attentive but not overly friendly, they accommodated all our needs with almost zero eye contact or smile.
