Hotel UTO KULM - car-free

The views and room were exceptional

Two things: 1) we had a car and didn't realize car free meant no cars until after we booked. This should be more clear on the website. 2) I chose breakfast included in my search for this hotel. Booking.com gave me an "upgrade" and when this happened, I did not notice that breakfast was Available for $30 each. The breakfast was nice but not much nicer than the standard breakfast included. We were shocked at checkout. The breakfast was not worth $60 Euro We did have dinner at the same restaurant the night before, and it was delicious- priced appropriately for Zurich.

I'm delighted to share my experience at this wonderful family-run hotel atop a mountain near Zurich. From the very beginning, we were welcomed by the warm Yvonne, who with her kindness and attention to detail made our stay unforgettable. She always ensured that all our wishes were fulfilled, and in this unique hotel, we felt right at home. The breathtaking location, combined with the excellent service and caring hospitality, turned our stay into a memorable experience. We can't wait to return!

You are warned well in advance about the walk up to the hotel so no surprises there but great that they can collect bags at the station and also drop them down. The room was neat and the balcony great to wake up to. Staff were helpful and provided a kettle so tea could be made as well as having the coffee machine. The sauna was terrific and very relaxing after walking down through the woods to Zurich and sightseeing. Breakfast ample and good options. Not for a couple of nights but we stayed five so got a real sense of the place. The train access on the Uetliburg line is fantastic.

Not a lot but I suspect we were lucky time wise as I imagine it could be quite noisy in summer or with functions.

The view was breathtaking, it really is 'The top of Zurich' The room was beautiful and exceptionally clean. A great get away and was very quiet. The staff were very friendly.

When we arrived we were not aware that there was a steep 10min walk to the hotel, the hotel had contacted me to inform me about how to get to the hotel, but they didn't explain that from the train there is another 10minute up hill walk and also did not tell me that luggage can be collected by the hotel at the train station. There was no information at the train station either, therefore we had to walk with the luggage, which was very difficult and ruined our first impression. I did mention this to the staff at reception, who said that it is stated on their website, however as I booked through booking.com I was not aware of this. Subsequently, the hotel have now placed a poster at the train station informing guests that they can have their luggage picked up.

The location and view was amazing! We were able to use the spa/sauna area during our stay which was delightful with a Finnish sauna, a steam sauna and ice cave and a fancy shower along with rest area. Only limited people can use it and we only had two other people there while we were there, very relaxing! The breakfast was amazing, many options including scrambled eggs, bacon, potato rosti, breads, cheeses, fruit, cereals, juice, coffee.

The day we left we went to breakfast at 7.15am as we had an early flight, (breakfast was from 7) and the hot food was not ready which was a little disappointing.

Beautiful views of Zürich and the valley on the other side of Uetliberg. The walking path along the ridge extends quite far and is a lovely walk with only a few steep parts. The breakfast had lots of variety and was high quality. The air freshener smell seemed always present, but was nice, not overpowering. The bed and bedding was the most comfortable so far in Switzerland! Trains run pretty frequently, albeit a bit more expensive due to two zone crossings from Zürich 110. As with every train in Switzerland, it's always on time, quiet, and comfortable. The walk up to the hotel is steep but short, and the hotel offered to drive our baggage between the hotel and the station, which was helpful as most of the path is gravel, which can be rough on suitcases with smaller wheels. Charlie the cat is cute and very friendly. We never found him near the rooms, just roaming the lobby and outdoors, so my cat allergy was never triggered.

When reserving the sauna, it was implied that we had it to ourselves. Both we and the other guests who booked at the same time were surprised and dismayed that this was not the case. We went to do something else instead, rather than disturbing the other guests.

We booked the sauna and steam rooms and had the place to ourselves. When we booked it, robes and slippers and slippers were delivered to our room. The snacks in the fridge and the coffee capsules in our room were refreshed daily. Every time we went outside we were astonished by the views over the city from one side and of the valleys on the other. There are many beautiful trails for walking and hiking around the hotel and they are well sign-posted. The setting of the hotel, the comfort of the room, the power of the shower, the sauna-steam room with tropical shower, the quality of the staff and the ability to go hiking were particular highlights.

View from the room just looked out to the courtyard where vans were parked. The s-ban wasn't functioning while we were in Zurch, and one night we came back and the bus only took us half way from the city to the hotel so we had to walk up most of the mountain with absolutely no light but the flash light on my mobile phone for most of the way up.

the room I first booked was not the room I got. The staff told me there were just stock photos online and that it was being updated...so the room I booked was actually smaller than the one in the photos online. When I got to the room I found it very small and asked about it - the staff told me about the online photos and upgraded me to the room I thought I had booked, for no extra price. I was extremely happy and the staff at reception and in the restaurant were really friendly and helpful. I will come again!

It was a really special place to stay. At the top of Zurich. We got a suite so it was extra luxury which isn’t very common in Europe. So if you are looking for a view of a lifetime and at the same time stay at the top of Zurich , go ahead and book this property. The staff was very cooperative and quite responsive to our calls and any requests we made.

The location is bit of an effort but it’s just my own preference which is way different from people looking for adventure and a special place to stay.

We had a great 1 day stay at the hotel - the location is amazing, giving great sightseeing view to Zurich. I will start with the staff, which was very friendly and welcoming. As soon as we arrived at the train station, which is 300-400m. away from the hotel, we started climbing to the top, which takes no more than 10min. (with a big suitcase and a strolley). On the way up one very nice lady, driving a branded car from the hotel, offered to take our luggage to the hotel free of charge. We enjoyed the walk through the forest, the air was very fresh and the views were stunning. The check-in took less than 5 min. and we were given a great city-view room, which was very clean, modern and stylish. The king size bed was very confortable, as well as the baby cot. All the area around was amazing and very well-maintained. We highly recommend the hotel and would definitely book again on our next visit to Zurich.

Bear in mind, that we paid with a debit card before checking out, but some amount (probably related the initial booking payment) was blocked for a period of 7 days afterwards, which was then released without any charge.
